Pros +
- Overall the stay was very pleasant. The venue was beautiful and cozy, the rooms we booked were very clean and the staff was very nice and helpful. The breakfast was tasty and the available food was of a very good quality. Furthermore, the venue has a huge garden fitted with a playground for kids, volleyball net, camp fire facilities, etc. It is the perfect venue to spend some quality time during the summer holidays.
- This is an incredible place to spend a couple of days during a trip to Transylvania. The rooms are beautifully designed and there are so many different indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy. It's absolutely worth it to book some time at their wood fired sauna and hot tub up on the hill!
- I'm still learning what "albergo diffuso" truly means. While in Romania Transilvania would be the perfect place for that, as more than one location operates under this concept. My take is that it should transform an entire village in danger of disappearing into more than accommodations for tourists while preserving community life. It's a philosophy of sustainable tourism that creates authentic connections between travelers and local culture. I haven't felt community integration — scarce local products despite nearby producers, no other meaningful village connection. Probably because there is little local community left. As a caveat, I'm still learning about the concept and I've stayed only one night. Valea Verde captures all the execution and visual elements beautifully, as well as the formal conditions: restored Saxon houses scattered through peaceful village scenery. When we arrived it was raining and quite cold outside. The rooms were initially at an okay temperature, but overnight it got quite chilly, which prompted me to make a fire — less resourceful guests might have asked for instructions, but I found it manageable to figure out myself. The plumbing in bathrooms has a smell, and the bathrooms themselves were quite an invigorating experience in the morning. The restaurant, while featuring excellent cuisine in a stunning setting, operates as haute cuisine without warning — we waited two hours for dinner costing half our accommodation fee, expecting village-style fare. At €100+ per room plus at least double that for the food the deeper meaning feels incomplete. My bad.The potential is there. Perhaps longer stays reveal more depth. Perhaps I arrived too late and they grew tired about the endless usual local hospitality problem. For me, the gap between what I've understood so far about the concept and authentic community integration is noticeable.
Cons -
- The stay was very nice. However, there are little things that could be improved: for example the water tap on bathroom sink was loose and one of the rooms we booked did not have an insect net on the windows, hence there were a lot of wasps trapped inside from when the windows were opened, and also we had a lot of mosquitos visiting during the night, as we slept with the window open. And above all, it would be nice to have aircon, especially for the hot summer days. But those are just little things that could be improved.
- Everything was great!
- The gap between concept promise and execution particularly on the service side and especially given the pricing.

Situated in a very small, poor village that looks like it's still the 1960s there (dirt roads, farm animals in every backyard), the retreat consists of several beautifully renovated houses spread throughout the village. Therefore it's very quiet. Our room was pretty and clean and private since the other rooms in the house were empty. The breakfast was very good and had some interesting specialities.
For what it is, the place is extremely overpriced, especially the food (including water) - and you have to eat there as there is no other restaurant far and wide. While the cooking is not bad, it is FAR from the quality they advertise, which the fancy 7 course dinner and wine selection cannot make up for. The dinner is one fixed menu every day, relying heavily on meat and especially pork. If you have food allergies or are vegetarian, good luck to you. Also good luck if you're not a fan of random (if well-behaved) dogs joining you for dinner. While the owner likes to create a friendly atmosphere, both him and the staff never asked if we wanted any recommendations for activities like they advertise; instead, they seemed to focus entirely on a group that apparently had booked a special package. As far as the natural surroundings go - this is not the retreat's fault, but we were shocked to find the forests and hiking routes littered with trash everywhere. This is not what "untouched" nature or even "wilderness" looks like. I would have liked to learn more about the place I was staying at, at the very least in terms of local / traditional food, instead of just using the rural area and the poor population as a supposedly romantic backdrop for a German entrepreneur and his well-off guests.
Nice atmosphere in the restaurant and good food.
We stayed two nights in Valea Verde, and it was our third or fourth visit there. It was cold in the first evening. We managed to start the fire in the stove thanks to the wood left for fire, however it was still quite cold in the rooms and bathrooms. Sauna was closed to Christmas cleaning. The food was good, but in small and very small portions.
The rural area and the big yard
The bathroom was very stinky
dream and pitoresque location, friendly staff, rustic and clean room and bathroom, real rural lifestyle experience.zen like experience because of landscapes and quiet: only birdsong, dogs barking and cows mooing, cowbells... large garden with pond, darts, ping pong, trampoline, hammock to chill and lounge.
shower in cund cottage ap. 1 was not ok, it alternates every 60 secs between freezing cold and burning hot, it's almost imposible to use. no a la carte menu at their restaurant which is pretty remote as you won't find another within 60 km. you have a fixed menu with 1 option to choose each from soup, starter, 2 main courses and desert each day, which is different every day. (probably because they favor groups of people instead of couples). we only ate once for dinner, food was very fancy, each course has a glass of vine included, even the desert. quality is exquisite, but portion is minuscule, i.e. ravioli with truffles has real shredded truffles, but 3 raviolis, more like a tasting experience than a real meal.breakfast was really nice 1 day and average the other 3 mornings: asked for omlette and always received undercooked and runny scrambled eggs, even after asking. artizanal mini breads were wonderful. 1 day even had home made bread with nuts, which with honey was absolutely fabulous. vegetarian options are scarce, vegan are missing entirely, only eggplant salad and zakuska spread, cheese, (matured with herbs was fabulous), some pepper and tomato.
Very rustic and remote. Good for taking a break from the city life.
Nearly impossible to shower, the electric water heater was sending 10 seconds of cold water, 10 of extremely hot water. Not having signal inside of the house in case of emergency, you need to go outside the property to call or text.
Room (spacious, furniture, stove, big bathroom) Breakfast with local goodiesRstaurant with excellent food and numerous wine choicesRural beautiful village and surroundingThe people from the owners to the stuffEverything was perfect
- The nature is amazing and there is a rustic feeling around the location where we stayed;- We needed help from staff’s retreat for a flat tyre and they helped us even if it was a Friday at 5pm. We are extremely greatful for that. Recommendation to avoid the stone road between Cind and Dumbraveni and do the longer road even if 20 km longer.
- Bathroom is outdated, smells like fungus- Tiles in the shower pose danger for cutting so you need to be extremely careful- No cleaning in the room during our stay- Staff is not proactive in sharing information about the area, activities, facilities of the retreat or other aspects- Missing mini-fridge and safety box in the room- Breakfast could include fresh baked bread and not 1-2 days old bread, as well as some specific Romanian food and sweets ( not gaufres as those are Belgium treats);- Missing basic thinks at breakfast, like oil or salt&peper unless you ask for it.- If you are not willing or afraid to eat breakfast on the terrace with stray dogs and cats I recommend not to come to this retreat-Wifi quite poor and does not work most of the time, TV in the room either as you need to get help from the staff to fix it.- Menu for dinner was quite fancy, not matching the location and traditions of the area and extremely expensive for what it offered.
- the concept is very nice; cute, traditional houses scattered around the village- the location is extremely peaceful and quiet, great place to disconnect and relax- the restaurant & the outdoor garden are beautiful, spacious- delicious vegetables from their own garden- staff was friendly- the house we stayed in was very big, with its own garden and terrace
- the accommodation is slightly overpriced and several aspects could use improvement: faucets were old and degraded; the lights on the terrace didn’t work; plates were clean (washed) but had lots of stains; the refrigerator should be retired; some doors didn’t work properly; missing hangers; no insect nets.- the entrance door is made out of glass, so the other guests could see right into our kitchen (no curtains or anything). We could see in their room as well. I find this a bit odd.- the facilities presented on Booking & their website are misleading. For example, they mention a natural swimming pool, therefore I expected a pool in which we could swim. No such thing, it’s more of a pond, which is very dirty and you wouldn’t want to go in there.- we had a big, beautiful garden; however, it only had a table and a couple of chairs, that’s it. I feel like there’s room for improvement there. We asked for a grill (BBQ was also mentioned as a facility), but they couldn’t provide it the same day (it wasn’t mentioned that you need to request it in advance).- the shower was, unfortunately, a nightmare. Water came in 2 waves: the right temperature but no pressure at all, and then suddenly some pressure for a couple of seconds, but burning hot. Literally impossible to take a decent shower.
A rural, quiet place. I found the fine dining in this remote place and in connection with the accomodation absolutely extraordinary! Jonas is not just a chef and business visionary person, but also a warm and affable conversation partner.
Things are never perfect. Are they anywhere? But there are too many good things in this place to mention any shortcomings.
The house we stayed at was a lot bigger and prettier than expected. The landscape all-around is wonderful and an easy 5-min hike can offer you a panoramic view. The restaurant's yard is also really cozy and peaceful.
The breakfast was quite heavy, even for us, Romanians, with lots of meat and fat.
The TV in our room did not have connection to the cable network and even though we notified this and we were informed that the next they will fix it, it didn’t happen until the end of our stay. Also, the electricity system has a problem in Yard 4, the intensity of the light is fluctuating all the time.
Spotless! Amazing location, very clean, we stayed in the Cund House and loved it, had the whole house for ourself. The food is very tasty, local ingredients, the staff was very kind, the design is perfect for this type of experience. We even enjoyed the gym for 1 evening.
Exceptional place in the middle of Transylvania, great food and wine , and overall a great opportunity to relax and disconnect
Fantastic location, if you want to escape the city and have some relaxing, quality time. The hosts are very friendly and welcoming. The food and wines are excellent. Everything you can think of, they can provide and arrange for you from massages to horseback riding.
The idea of a resort which they are tying to deliver to travellers. Nice views of the surrounding hills with wineries. Good breakfast menue and freshly made coffee.
Staff at Reception with a indifferent attitude, no interest in arriving guests. The location of the actual room which was in a house located offsite the resort , along the main road so you had to walk/ drive to your room. Limited choice for dinner with an ovepriced wine list.
The surroundings and the breakfast + the villagers.
We booked a table to eat in, thinking that we will eat what the master PR chef was cooking (I asked for the menu but they told me that the chef makes the menu according to the ingredients). Instead, we had to eat Romanian grill steaks and sausages for ~30€/pers. Which was a lot. They hadn't had the house white wine which was listed on the menu. The house that we booked was in the village and neither booking, neither Google Maps mention that. The staff is also awful. It looks like you're disturbing them even if you don't ask them to do something. The tv had no receiver for the cable tv. Reality is far from the photo's, my dear Booking.com.
The very cozy atmosphere both at the main location and at our apartment and garden Cund 1, friendly and helpful staff, various and very tasty breakfast
Nothing to dislike. We would have appreciated a pull
