Ascot Oamaru Motel

The hotel was clean and has a restaurant/ten pin bowling facilities.

The room was stuffy, we kept the windows open to air it out. The ashtray outside the room was full of butts - very stinky for none smokers.

Cleanliness, location and comfort. Staff were also great!

I expected much less when reading previous reviews. I was pleasantly surprised that the room (no.7) had undergone an upgrade compared to the reviews and pictures on the site. I would suggest an upgrade on the pics would be handy...or maybe I was lucky with the room allocation?

It was nice and close to town, and Marjorie was very helpful changing over our room with two beds.

Was surprised that there was no smoke alarm installed in the room.

Reasonable price

No contact even when the power went off at 8am the second morning. Parking was poor

There was no light down the driveway side from the office to our room. Stepped in a big puddle as it was raining. Not happy

Bed comfortable

Noise from upstairs, tea towel was a half a old tea towel cut in half.. no spare loo roll and only little left on roll. We had to physically pull blind down in room, does not open nor go up or down.. bass music from upstairs was annoying till we complained. Dish. Cloth folded back wet under the sink. We were given milk in a what seemed to be a small marmite jar.. for $200 a night, work certainly needs doing on hospitality needs.

Great parking off the road and very easy to find.The room had everything that you need for an overnight stay. Good pressure in the shower.

We nearly got stuck outside at 8.30 pm as our key didn't want to work. After hours phone number wasn't working. We managed to get in and then we got a phone call back to check that everything was ok.

The room was lovely, the bathroom was great. The television was not usable as the log on was not accessible.

The person on the desk on Saturday, 22 March 2025 was very unhelpful and had no hospitality skills at all.

Fridge needed to be defrosted as it was iced up. The TV operation requires very clear operation notes. NZ is so sports/News oriented ,that to not be able to "find" news programmes and watch Sky Sport channels was very disappointing !! Why are there no light switches near the twin singles in room 11 ???

Quite far from town centre but host arranged cheap taxi.

The motel was easy to access from the main road and the ground was not as steep as many others in the vicinity. Parking was at the end of the gently sloping property but was not far from the units. We stayed here twice, once heading south then returning on our way north. The first time we heard very little traffic noise from the main road but the second time it was noticeable. The laundry facilities were good.

The television set was smaller than most but it was good. It is possible to walk to the supermarket in the nearby mall but walking back uphill with a heavy load of shopping may leave you wishing you had driven there instead!
