Pearl Hotel

This was my second stay within several weeks. I was greeted like an old friend. The room was just perfect. When my flight to Colombo was cancelled due to Cyclone Ditwah the hotel was happy to extend my stay, arrange new transport to airport when needed and assist in other communications contact. All in all a brilliant hotel and staff.

I have nothing to note that I would wish changed.

—Great location! It is either in, or immediately outside, the main tourist district. Major western hotel chains like the Westin, Sheraton, and Crown Plaza are only a 5-8 minute walk away.—Very comfortable beds & pillows—Good water pressure. Plentiful hot water. Did experience weak water pressure and minimal hot water just one morning out a six day stay. Otherwise, it was very good. —Very helpful & friendly Front Desk staff. They know good English too. —Very good security guards at hotel. —Lots of bathroom amenities like toothbrush/paste, body lotion, etc.—Good A/C in room. Can adjust yourself (the temperature setting lowers periodic for some reason, but then goes back to your setting). —There is a welcome drink of fresh papaya juice which was kind of nice. —The breakfast buffet was very good, both Western and local specialties. They even have a cook-to-order omelet station (which I was surprised for this size hotel). No fresh brewed coffee, though (only instant).—Everything in the hotel is clean and in good order. —Good selection of TV channels, including a few in English (news mostly). —The hotel is in a safe area. —They have a mini refrigerator in the room packed with drinks and goodies (extra cost).

—The WiFi was just OK (low bandwidth issue?) Could not video conference for whatever the reason. —The containers in the shower for shampoo and body wash were empty (I like my own shampoo anyway, and prefer soap bars which were provided).

The location was good — in Banani, near Gulshan, so with several restaurant and coffee shop options nearby. The staff were generally polite, especially the guards, etc.

The hotel describes itself on Booking as non-smoking, with designated smoking areas. When I came to the hotel, I realized that there is cigarette smoke *everywhere* — they claimed that I did not ask to be put in a non-smoking room, although that is how they described the hotel themselves. I also heard them explicitly tell another guest that this is a non-smoking hotel. Also, very upsetting that they don't see it as their responsibility to ask during check-in, if they are going to be letting everyone smoke. (The windows do not open, by the way). Terrible experience and every morning I woke up with a headache. All my clothes smell like cigarettes.

Friendly staffs, cleanliness, maintain hygiene and safety. Breakfast was excellent.

The room was in good condition and clean.

I feel really bad at spa massages. I paid for a 90-minute massage, but actually received a 70-minute. Massage therapists leave the room for more than 10 minutes between massages.

Little more variety in breakfast will be better. We expect some more variety. Traditional Bengali breakfast is missing. Some more variety of juice is required.

Bad

The accommodation fee is more expensive on booking than their front desk directly. The access control card of elevator is never working. The reception is very unprofessional and really a mess at all.

The hotel is well connected with the airport, everything is nearby but most importantly was the hotel itself. It is cosy, friendly stuffs, well stocked snacks at the room and friendly services.

I loved the location, their food and the room atmosphere. The cleanliness was up to the mark, and the staff were friendly enough.

The entrance wasn’t a match to the facility. I prefer more space before I enter the lobby. Also the free space in the room wasn’t much. A little bit more space to walk around the room can be more relaxing.

Room was better than I had expected, nice and modern looking. Wifi signal excellent.

Breakfast was sub-standard. Not enough variety for a Westerner's (typical) taste and I went to a different hotel just for a better breakfast on the second day of my stay.

That they don’t allow outside food in a room for which I am paying them. It is my right to eat anything I want in a paid room. This is a wrong and unethical policy of this hotel.

Non-managerial staff

This is a three star hotel if you are generous. I give it a solid two stars. The pictures don't depict the reality at all.The noise level here is unbearable. The constant Dhaka traffic can be heard. I understand there is not much one can do about that. However, the staff were moving furniture in other rooms at 7am, which makes absolutely no sense. There is music playing on all floors throughout the day. The room doors don't slowly shut but rather slam shut, you hear every guest/staff's entry and exit.The rooms are dated, dirty, and tiny. The many light switches in the room don't make sense. It's a nightmare trying to turn the lights off at night. They tried hard to go with the fancy window from the bedroom into the bathroom but it makes no sense as it's where the shower is. The bright light on the air-conditioner shines throughout the night. There are no clothes hangers in the room.Both during check-in and check-out the managers at the hotel were extremely annoying and we're trying to convince me I needed to pay an extra 27 dollars for my room. I explained to them that I was not going to pay a single cent over what was already agreed to on Booking.com. They gave me one excuse after another ranging from a change in room rate to different foreign exchange rates. They finally accepted that I shouldn't have to pay more. However, on the day of checkout the exact same drama happened again. Wasting precious minutes of my time before rushing to catch my flight. Needless to say not a single manager was onsite. The managerial staff here is rather incompetent and don't seem to understand how to run a hotel professionally.

Lack of the AC in the corridors and elevators.

Hello .....everything good but one thinks when I'm checkout the staff in lobby no help to find taxi for as so I'm letting our fly.....( in 23 may morning in 6 a clock pls checked staff in lobby very no good)
