Pros +
- The historic nature. It was beautiful and an incredible experience.
- It is a Castle with a wonderful restaurant.
- Another fabulous hotel in the Parador portfolio. We only stayed one night en route to Malaga but I'll definitely be back. The staff were very friendly and helpful, our room was great and the decor was sympathetic to the previous history of the hotel.
Cons -
- It was very warm in Zafra and the hotel advertises air conditioning but we were told it was not turned on for the hotel yet as it was "too early in the year". During the day this was a problem. At night it did cool down and we were able to open a window.
- It needs a better sign that is visible on the street. We drove right past it. It was a little more expensive than similar places we have stayed.
- Got the impression it seemed to be catering to bus tours. Have to prebook breakfast dinner; felt breakfast was a bit pricey, compared to other hotels in this class, not good value.

Lovely building, beautiful room, clean comfy and elegant. Restaurant and bar very nice, all staff very welcoming. Great location for exploring Zafra.
Good location; beautiful historic building; excellent breakfast with a big variety of cold dishes at the buffet tables and hot items made to order.

What you would expect of a high end hotel. Some added historical finishes/furnishings. Secure storage for bicycles in an interior courtyard, outside, uncovered. Pool. Balcony, although a wacky door design to access. Comfy, large room. Etc. It’s a parador.

The hotel offered an incredible, palace-like ambiance, with crisp, freshly ironed bed linens, spacious room and courteous staff.
We had a superior room and it was very spacious and comfortable. The building is magnificent, a walled fortress and you can walk around the ramparts. Parking is easy at the entrance for about 5 euros per 24 hours.
We were disappointed by the restaurant. Also there is not much to do in Zafra.
The building is fascinating and it feels like you’re stepping back in time. Lovely room and nice courtyard to relax in. We were able to park and charge our bikes in the courtyard. A bit of affordable luxury whilst cycling the Via de La Plata !
Easy to find and great exterior. They gladly set up a cot for our child and the staff were very friendly.
The interior is dated and the sewer smells throughout the halls. Value for money is low, the cost is on the high side for very simple and old rooms. The restaurant is pricey for pretty average food and the breakfast was $40/adult so we didn’t even stay for that.
Nice bar and restaurant and comfortable room. The parador is in the historic center of Zafra which although small is charming with a lively plaza with additional cafes and restaurants to explore.
Location was perfect, excellent parking, good food. Very helpful staff.Lots of history, plenty to see and do.
Restaurant has to be booked and you have a set time for breakfast, rather than turn up when you feel like it - not had that before.
This is an old castle from the 1400s converted into a hotel. Very good breakfast. Comfortable rooms. It is situated within a short walk to many sites, shops, and restaurants. Reasonably priced parking right next to the hotel. Do not use the parking kiosk, but instead check in, and purchase a parking permit from the hotel. It's much cheaper. Unless you speak Spanish, skip the complimentary guided tour of the castle. You will see very little and understand even less.
Exceptional variety and quality of breakfast buffet with the option of hot dishes. Service was friendly and attentive.
The central courtyard and the corridor leading to our room had a very noticeable smell, either blocked drains or a dead rat. We ate in the bar to avoid the smell.
Location was perfect for my night stop.
Unable to have dinner as the restaurant had no tables for hotel guests. There was dank atmosphere redolent of old stone buildigs throughout including the room.An upgrade to the tired furniture and bathroom fittings is long overdue.Breakfast was plentiful but the small tong supplied to each diner transfered foods to other foods. Not a good idea.
Amazing place ! Delightful staff, mega breakfast and the most stunning and beautiful building we have ever stayed in. Some would consider the corridors / rooms a little dated but all part of its charm. We loved it and it was a privilege to stay there.
Very cool venue, nicely re-imagined as hotel. Wonderful staff, delicious breakfast buffet.
Reception staff could be betterOnce again coffee not v good Laundry too expensiveNo fresh orange juice
Fabulous building. Friendly staff, very good breakfast, good location. Did I mention the fabulous building?
As is often the case in historic paradors the room was a bit tired and old fashioned (I would rate the room no more than 8/10) but the fantastic building compensates for that.
They gave us a better room when requested. I honestly believe one gets miserable rooms when booking with Bookings. The new room was lovely. The breakfast was extremely good, and the hotel atmosphere is great.
The first room given was small and had two beds when one bed was requested. The two rooms were very inferential and the hotel was not full.
