    • lake views simply took our breaths away. onsen was incredible with great water quality. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Rooms with lake views were worth the money.
    • The food was excellent, with breakfast served in a grand room with a view of the lake and a fantastic Kaiseki dinner served on a private hearth. My wife and I were blown away. The onsen and hot spring water is very special and the location is unmatched.
    • Staff was excellent, Beds were very comfy, Food was delicious and variedand location was top notch. We had a terrible first night because a group of young people were partying all night next to us. Unbelievable behavior in an Onsen. We talked to the hotel and they came up to ask them to be quiet and they left. The partying and noise did not stop until 3:10am. When I went to talk to the hotel the next day, the person in charge was extraordinarily kind and helpful. We slept solid the whole next night thanks to his arranging some buffer room for us. It was so kind of him and we were really grateful.

    Cons -

    • Walls are quite thin.
    • There are not that many buses to Shikotsuko from New Chitose or Chitose train station. If you miss the last bus, it's very difficult to get here. Most of the guests seem to arrive by car. Also, if you are arriving by bus, make sure to *make a reservation* for the courtesy bus to the hotel, which is not near the Shikotsuko bus stop. We did not see this and ended up having to ask another hotel to call the property for them to send a separate car (very nice of them, but there's also no other way to get there!) as we did not see the courtesy bus. For other ryokans I have stayed at with courtesy buses that need reservations, this is usually communicated with the reservation information and just wish it was a bit clearer, even though it is on the hotel website. I also tried calling the property the same day, but it seems their line does not accept international calls.
    • No complaints :)

Great value, amazing location on the water and impressive ryokan dinner and buffet breakfast. All in all a great experience!

Amazing location and incredible outdoor Onsen experience for the price of the room. It was so tranquil and my husband and I actually like the serenity more than at Lake Toya

This was a beautiful way to start our month in Japan. The kaiseki dinner and the breakfast were both delicious. The onsen was gorgeous overlooking the lake. You could also refill your water bottles from water directly from the lake in the lobby. There is a cute gift shop with plenty of shimaenaga merchandise.

    No complaints :)

Gorgeous location on the lake. Isolated from the world. Price value was good. Incredible Breakfast: make sure to try the hokkaido specialties. Staff is very nice. They don't speak much English but have endless patience speaking with phone translators. They offer a free shuttle bus to hotel guests. To get to the hotel from lake shikotsu village at 15:30 and 17:30. And to leave the hotel at 9am and 10am.

I only wish they would offer one more time for the shuttle bus. A little later so we could have seen the snow festival in the dark before having to lane.

Excellent dinner and breakfast with an absolutely stunning view over the lake. Our flight was delayed and the staff waited and additional 4 hours to serve us our dinner!

I would have loved to have a cleared walking path, we were there in the winter and we wanted to wander around the lake a bit.

Beautiful environemnt by the lake! The outdoor onsen was very nice. Breakfast at the lobby restaurant overlook the lake.

Dinner Kaiseki was average, but not bad. Given the price of the deal, totally fair! The hotel property has been renovated yet u could tell its a bit dated. Yet, I like it how they manage to maintain the property to a good standard

Fantastic night stay. Was picked up by shuttle bus at Lake Shikotsu village (ensure you request this when booking). Onsen was amazing: could choose from different temperature baths near the bath house. Two outdoor baths available for each gender: one being right down at the lake water line (80m along a covered wooden walkway). Had the Kaiseki dinner and it was amazing - tasty & so well presented. Was provided a shuttle bus back to the village in the morning after a hearty buffet breakfast. A must "do" for onsen experience. We were lucky with the weather: went in Feb = lots of snow but saw a beautiful sunrise & sunset.

The hotel is breathtaking. Wow the view is a million dollar view. Get the room with a view it’s really worth it. The staff’s are very friendly and good service. I wish we stayed more days. One night wasn’t enough.

Nothing. Enjoyed our stay and would love to comeback.

The natural hot spring, as well as the onsen baths, feature what might be the most breathtaking view I have ever had the pleasure to experience. You feel like you are in the Shikotsuko lake, rather than in front of it. The service, staff, room equipment were absolutely spotless, and the irori kaiseki dinner we had was just A++ marks on all fronts, environment included. The fact that you cannot take pictures of the onsen except during the first 20 minutes of the cleaning shift adds to the magic, making it an experience during which you must and want to be completely aware, to take it in to the fullest and engrave the scenery in your memory.

Clean accommodation, beautiful view of the lake. There is also a wonderful onsen bath to enjoy. Dinner spread is amazing, breakfast buffet was delicious.

We really enjoyed our stay at this traditional ryokan. It's an old place but clean and comfy. The room on the 3rd floor had a beautiful lake view. Staff was helpful and friendly. The best part was the onsen, especially the outdoor baths were really nice. The place was very quiet and peaceful during our stay.

It worked fine with two fans in the room but would have been problematic without A/C in hotter weather. The food was good but not exceptional.

Beautiful location by the Lake. Nice old traditional Inn. Onsen was excellent, cold pool, hot pool, sauna, right on the lake.Food was delicious for dinner and breakfast. Good English spoken, staff is very friendly and helpful. Spacious room, clean, quiet, all worked well.

It was unseasonably hot in Hokkaido and there was no AC which made it a little uncomfortable. We were able to manage with the fan.

    9KristenPosted on: 8-26-2023

Beautiful onsen, don’t miss the outdoor one down by the lake! Lovely staff, spacious room (Japanese style lake view on 2nd floor), amazing views and good dinner.

Lack of in room AC is a challenge in hot weather but we adapted. Asked for a second fan which helped. If you can’t tolerate heat/humidity could be a problem. For us the pluses outweighed that inconvenience.

    Onsen, restaurant.

Despite the fact the amenities did not state the room would have an air-con. The room was probably 100F and way too hot to sleep well in for an august night. Towels were not great.

Great view of lake ShikotsuFriendly staffGood dinner

Dilapidated rooms and onsen No air conditioning in the roomsMediocre breakfast The entire hotel should be renovated.
