Pros +
- The location was really nice and relaxing, small and cozy. The owners and staff were incredible nice and helpful and food was delicious. I stayed there for 2 weeks and it felt like home. Was hard to leave. Kite spot and instructures I can recommend as well, best place to learn kiting and spending some time in a great community.
- I really enjoyed my stay. The wooden bungalows are very rustic and cozy, with open roofing and an outdoor shower. The garden is well-maintained too. The school has a WhatsApp group where they share information about lesson planning, wind conditions, and activities, which I found really well-organized. Dinners are served with all the guests at the kite center, which was just 5 minutes away by bike. Safran was my instructor. He is very experienced and teaches in a great way—always calm, helpful, and full of good advice. I made great progress thanks to him. I felt like in a kitesurf community . Thanks a lot to Safran and all the Margarita staff!
- Nisala is an amazing manager. He took very good care of us and he made our stay very unique. The bungalows are beautiful and well maintained. They keep the place very clean. We will miss this place and if we go back we will stay here again. Thanks again Nisala, Ruben, for our enjoyable stay.
Cons -
- The way to kite center got a bit long after a while, so renting a scooter is definitely helpful, or you stay in the margarita lagoon or at center if you want to avoid walking every day for 15 minutes to go kiting.
- The house where we stayed could be cleaner for example the bed, floor
- The mosquito net in my room had some holes in it which defeats its purpose as I ended up with mosquitos inside the net despite having tucked it under the mattress when going to bed. You'll want good earplugs as it gets noisy even before sunrise due to the nearby mosque and the birds in the surrounding trees. It wasn't clear to me whom to ask for the final bill when I wanted to pay for my stay as there is no reception desk, so in the end it took over a day for me to be able to pay. (which wasn't an issue for me as I had enough time to follow up on it, but might be an issue for someone who needs to leave at a certain time).

Beautiful place to be. The staff is super friendly. I would specially name Kumudu en Nisala. Thank you for your kindness

The village is in very local place with lots of nature around. Then you cycle to centre where more people are staying so it’s big kitesurfing community with lots of instructors
Very simple but clean and spacious bungalow in a nice compound with lots of plants, atmospheric outside bathroom and shower, very friendly staff, tasty breakfast, free drinking water refill station, old bikes provided to get to the kite center (about a 7 minute cycle).

- Nisala is amazing! such a friendly and courteous host!- clean, comfy, spacious bungalows- good breakfast- nice atmosphere- free bicycles
the accomodation was fantastic but the kiteschool seemed quite chaotic; packages did financially not add up, information was scarce, dinner and lunch is rather expensive
Had a wonderful stay at Margarita. Incredibly nice staff, beautiful garden in the Village, good vibes and skilled kite instructors. Had lots of fun and would love to re-visit!
We stayed one month in total and we had an amazing stay at Sri Lanka Kite by Margarita ! The kite spot is perfect for beginners to more advanced level. The school is located on the upper part of the lagoon where there are less schools, which meant that some days we were only 5 on the spot. The staff is incredibly nice, we felt really good during our whole stay. There are also three beach boys, Chathu, Sanji and Diane, who are super helpful and are always happy to help you in any situations (rescue, untangle the lines, bring your kite upwind). The owners, Ruben and Eusebi, are very nice, accessible at all time and super flexible ! We changed our plans multiple times and whenever we needed a plan for a driver or an activity they had very good contacts. We also did a kite trip to Vella island where we did our first downwind, best experience !The food was also amazing. Every night there is buffet, usually a Sri Lankan rice and curry, and sometimes, as the owners are spanish you can find some tortilla or chorizo. The pizzas were also the best in whole Sri Lanka !We loved our stay and thanks to all the team we could progress a lot. Looking forward to come back !!
Bring some mosquito repellent ;)
Nice place, friendly staff and the crew in the kitebase. There are bicycles available for free. Breakfast is ok.
IMO food (especially dinner) and accomodation is overpriced, compared to what you can get in other places in Sri Lanka, but I guess it's the thing with all kite-related resorts... Kitegear (harnesses and boards) is pretty old , so if you have an option always bring your own.
Really chilled and relaxed place! Perfect location to learn kitesurfing. The staff was nice, Safran was the best teacher and Nisala the best kitchen chef - food was soooo delicious. Even though it was low season and really quiet we really enjoyed it! Would definitely come back one day!
You should know that it can be really noisy at night cause you are in the middle of nature, but you will be so tired from kiten it won’t bother you ;).
Great vibes, lovely staff and very sociable so we met lots of other people. The evening meal was always delicious. It's a nice rustic vibe.
It's next to a mosque so the 5am call to prayer is an early wake up, there was also a lot of noise from dogs so not a great night's sleep.
We had such a great stay at Margarita Village. The vibe is super laid back. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The communal dinners were a highlight of our days, the food was so delicious and it was great hanging out with different people. The shower and bathroom is outdoors which was quite the experience! We'd definitely come back! It's the perfect place if you just want to hang out and enjoy life.
No kitchen access and the location is quite remote, so you more or less rely on the food provided by the accommodation which for local standards was really expensive and not suitable for a backpackers budget (but extremely tasty, so if you're not on a budget it's great). Our small cabana didn't have many storage options so our luggage had to be kept on the floor. Dirt kept coming down from the roof so all our things were a bit dirty. The location is not right at the beach which we hadn't realised when booking. Margarita is split into three locations, one of which is at the beach, so you can always go there to hang out during the day, so no big problem! Also be sure to pack plenty of Mosquito repellent, you'll need it!
It's amazing what Eusebi and Ruben built there! We stayed at the village and thanks to the hospitality of Ruben and his crew we instantly felt at home and the other "villagers" quickly became friends. The Bungalows are not luxurious, but they provide a lot of space, were very clean, the bed is big and very comfortable and the outdoor bath and shower is amazing! The food is also amazing! For lunch you can choose between different dishes that are delivered to the beach (if you go kitesurfing) and in the evening there is a small buffet with new treats to discover every day. So all in all I can highly recommend to stay there, not least because of the unmatched friendliness and hospitality of Ruben and his crew. Margarita Village was our favorite stay in Sri Lanka and we will surely come back!
