Pros +
- In the heart of old town, but in a quiet street. Great breakfast and staff is amazing.
- Great service, people are very friendly and professional. The room is super nice and comfortable.
- The rooftop bar is always staffed from morning until night, which is fantastic. At many other hotels, there’s no service during quieter hours, so this really sets the hotel apart. The rooftop itself is beautifully maintained, with a refreshing pool and plenty of shaded areas—something essential in the heat of Cartagena. The music is excellent, and the views are absolutely breathtaking. The hotel is located right in the heart of the historic old town, so from the rooftop you can see the city’s landmarks, the harbor, the ocean, and even the modern skyline. We love this hotel; this was our second stay, and we’ll definitely be back. It has become our favorite place to stay in Cartagena, not just a hotel, but a place we know and truly enjoy. In the evenings, the rooftop comes even more alive, making it a true hotspot with its pool, stunning views, great music, and vibrant bar. The hotel has character, you can enjoy spending entire days there. The breakfast is great; many options, well-staffed, great cooks, fresh and a la carte options. A wide variety of fruits. We really love it. The rooms are very spacious and clean.
Cons -
- Location and view from the rooftop
- Nothing!
- The prices at the rooftop are too high (one national beer costs $4.50, which is very expensive for Cartagena)! Also, there was a wedding event at night, and the music was too loud. We had to leave the rooftop because they started moving things around. They also don't have enough towels for the pool. This hotel is losing its quality as a boutique hotel.

Lovely staff, stay, and breakfast!
Sophia is a nice hotel, but it was much better one or two years ago. The staff is very friendly, but the prices for food and drinks at the rooftop are way too high — even more expensive than at a restaurant.

The location was perfect and rooftop pool which was the main reason I booked this hotel.Staff were very friendly
The rooftop pool / bar was closed for a private event for two days of my 4 day stay so didn’t get to enjoy the use of this facility and this was the main reason I booked this hotel was for the rooftop pool area. Also there was very loud music for both those nights and my room was closed right by the rooftop so was impossible to sleep. Very disappointed with this hotel and was only notified the day before that we wouldn’t have access to the rooftop for two evenings.
Staff at front desk unfriendly upon check in. Pool area is gorgeous but a little dirty. Food was great at pool.
The front desk staff was especially helpful and I'd return to this hotel simply because of them. With that being said, the room, bed, rooftop pool and bar and did in the cafe were all fabulous too.
Everything was fabulous!
The location and the people working there trying their best
The price for what you get, Is gotten into the years. The pool/ bar is open for everyone as well to people from the street. The music was to loud and you where unable to fall asleep in your own room. Even after calling as soon someone left the party area and opens the door the music came down to the rooms. For what you pay is the the room the small Shower head was broken.
Very nice staff and a beautiful roof top bar. We rented the roof top fir an evening to welcome our guests in Cartagena 2 days before our wedding. The drinks and snacks were very good and the view on the old town and Boca Grande was great! They also booked a DJ for the welcome cocktail that we and our guests enjoyed very much! Many thanks to the hotel staff for your hospitality!
I don't like that the horse carriages (that are everywhere in the historic center) parked directly in front of the hotel entrance. Because of the hot climate it is smelly and the coachmen are sometimes pushy and I don't like that at all. I don't like these carriages in general because I think it is cruel for the animals to carry tourists through the hot, loud an busy streets crowded with cars and people. But because it is a public place, I do not know if the Hotel has any influence about where they park.
Location is very good, staff were very polite and kind.
A lot of small details. Water pressure and temperature, old furnitures, walls and windows like paper, I heared that my neighbour opened a can of coke. Outside is also very noisy, I heard everything on the third floor. Breakfast: nothing special. Prices like in NYC, service is not, a room was almost 300 USD per night. Rooftop was closed one day long, because the hotel organised a private event, but I booked the hotel because of the Rooftop. Overall, not bad, but very overpriced.
Beautiful building and lovely rooms. We had a junior suite which was huge with an extra large bed, 2 ac units and 2 fans. The toiletries were very good quality. The staff were friendly and professional. The location was perfect, on a quieter square in the walled city, close to everything
The breakfast could have been better. The fresh fruit was great but granola and better yogurt would haven been good too.
Excelent location near main historic places, restaurants, bars. Very safe place.Very good breakfast: many regional fruits, several freshly made eggs.Confortablle bed and very good air condicioned.Very kind staff.
The hotel rented the pool area for a party and the guests were unable to use the area for an entire day. This could not happen.
bigger room, more light in bedroom, too dark
Beautiful rooms, had a nice couch and such a lovely breakfast in the restaurant adjacent.
The location meant having to dodge vendors like crazy but you get used to it after awhile
Great location. Very helpful and friendly staff. Nice breakfast and perfect roof top bar and pool area.
It was little pricey compared to other hotels. My advanced booking.com reservation fee was higher than their daily rate.
My room was very large and spacious, impeccably clean, had a very comfortable bed, ample storage space, plenty of hot water and good pressure in the shower, good air conditioning and there was a lovely view of the plaza. The location is absolutely stellar, just a few minutes from the wall along the ocean and very easy walking distance to all the main points of interest. The staff, however, are the main draw - over the top helpful and exceptionally kind.
No complaints at all.
Exceptional hotel, in the very heart of Old Town Cartagena. Excellent breakfast, fresh and with good variety. The staff is extremely kind, knowledgeable, and always ready to help.Rooms are spacious and perfectly cleaned every day.We will definitely come again and would recommend 100%
We liked everything!
The view from the rooftop pool and the pool area itself is great. The pool is small and shallow, but still provides a refreshing dip which is very welcome in hot and humid Cartagena. The breakfast was plentiful, with lots of good options. The location is also excellent, inside the old city, close to plenty of sites, bars and restaurants, and close to the ports that provide access to the islands.
The room was small and dark.
Nice suite and setting . Helpful reception
It was ridiculous to be charged 56000 pesos for 2 bottles of water that appeared to be free at the beginning. They were in the bathroom with no information . Most hotels provide complimentary water and there was no pricing it appeared they were complimentary. Ridiculous situation
