The hotel is very clean and updated. The staff was amazing and helpful to get anything we wanted to do set-up with the vendors. The hotel is in a great location and an easy walk to the downtown and the pier.

We had to haul our 4 large suitcases up two flights of stairs to our room as there is no lift available. The mattress was very thin and had something firm running down the length of the center of the mattress which was uncomfortable as I have a bad back.

Location was good, staff were wonderful, room was large and accommodating, lots of great amenities! We appreciated the washer and dryer in our room.

Everyone is a bright light. We originally planned a two night stay. We were so happy, we asked for three more. We changed to a larger room; the price was equally affordable. Please stay if you are considering. It literally has everything.

Location was perfect and staff were great. Loads of amenities and extras available for guests on-site.

The front desk staff were amazing from answering questions pre-stay to booking excursions and rebooking due to weather issues to incredible friendliness, they made the stay great. The amenities offered at hotel from beach chairs to anything you can think you’d need are fantastic.

This property has absolutely everything that you could possibly need for a perfect vacation! Right beside the beach and so many shops and restaurants. The staff here felt like dear friends as soon as we met them. Definitely sad to leave.

There is nothing to dislike

We loved this hotel!!! Charming, bright, clean, with so many amenities and beach/vacation equipment free to use! The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful - they gave us itineraries, made bookings for crocodile tours, and plenty of suggestions. Check-in process was incredibly easy. Can not say enough great things about this property!

Absolutely nothing - it was PERFECT!

We had a 1 bedroom rental for a week. The furniture and kitchen were well appointed. The location in Port Douglas was perfect for easy access to 4-mile beach and walking to town for shopping, restaurants, and sightseeing. We borrowed the bikes for a beach and town ride. Although we had a small balcony, we did not have a view and there was no privacy on it.

The only complaint I have is that the WI-FI signal was too weak to handle the guest demand, so we had to use our own data and the streaming TVs would not work. This was particularly frustrating in the evening when we wanted to stream a show before bed and could only watch a "spinning circle". The staff was helpful and lent us a personal hotspot device when I complained. The hot spot worked until other residents discovered the network name and jumped on it too. High speed WI-FI is expected and should not be an issue for rentals in 2025. Aside from the WI-FI issue, I highly recommend By the Sea Port Douglas.

It was in a great location and was very clean- the girls were Freud sky and super helpful and have thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable

My legs didn’t like going up two flights but the view was worth it and I would recommend the superior view to anyone

right next to the beach, a 1 minute walk. Great for sunrise/sunset

It would have been nice to have some natural mosquito repellent available at reception or in the room.

if anything the location

room was very - very small. at booking of this venue we got additional info about the size of the room and builder work behind the hotel... room indeed is very small but worse... it is stuck at the back-end and had no day light (Room #1) So we were aware of the builder work - which did not bother us at all... we knew the room was small but really too small to stay with any comfort...We simply asked if there was another room available... and got a bit of a hostile response (probably an email template) which stated that the hotel did not take any responsible for us booking that room as they had shared additional info... All in all a place you can sleep in with hardly any comfort at the back-end of the hotel with hardly any day light.

location is great few steps from the beach, room was comfy. you have many beach staff you can take like chairs, balls, inflatables and more

reception closes at 3pm daily, our room was on a high floor hard to carry the lugge up the stairs

The ladies running the hotel are amazing! So friendly & extremely helpful. Really above & beyond on all of the little extras they provide—everything you possibly could want for a beach vacation is there for your use free of charge. Great location—Property is only steps from the beach & quick walk to restaurants/bars.

Space was a little tight in our unit & air conditioning struggled to keep cool.

Fast easy booking, great communication from onset. Friendly and accommodating staff. All needs met for a romantic getaway.

No complaints

Great location. Super close to the beach and all of downtown Port Douglas. Staff were super friendly and room was cozy. Overall a good launching pad to the Barrier Reef and Daintree. Lobby had beach towels and other necessities to use which was nice.

Felt very much like a motel which is fine but a bit disappointing given the price. Bathroom was quite small and a little inconvenient. Bit of a problem with small bugs getting in the room. Bed and linen felt cheap. Outlets were all in one corner of the room which was not convenient.

Close to the ocean! Very clean and tidy! Friendly help. Lots of amenities.

A restaurant at the property would be nice, but there are very good places to eat nearby

This little motel is a few steps away from a stunningly beautiful beach, and it's clean and bright and very cheerful, with a great view of the water from our balcony. The motel supplies literally everything you could possibly ever need for your stay, from bikes, to chairs, to coolers and thermoses and towels and umbrellas. It even supplied ice and filtered water (and a pitcher!), which were much appreciated! The kitchenette in our room was really well stocked. The pool was clean and refreshing. The staff were super friendly and helpful and made us feel extremely welcome. The motel is between the beach and is a couple minute's walk from the main part of the cute town of Port Douglas -- super close, but in a quiet spot. This stay definitely exceeded my expectations -- I was really impressed with the level of thoughtfulness and care that was evident all over By the Sea. Great stay; would highly recommend.
