Pros +
- Loved the location and the view. Great place to visit for visiting nature and the peace and quiet. Would definitely recommend the Villa great facilities. And loved the spa bath on the verandah. The Bar was a great place to visit to get a drink and would recommend having dinner there.
- We liked the room and especially the balcony that overlooked the mountains. We tried all the different food options, dining room, bar and snack bar and enjoyed them all.
- The flying fox activity was great. The rooms were generous. Clean. Location was terrific.
Cons -
- The Villa was really great but the verandah could have got a clean dusty with spider webs and the bbq not working. Cafe customer service could have been better waited so long for a coffee and the staff just kept talking to each other. Food options are very expensive especially for a family with children over the age of 12. The free afternoon tea was nice thought but cream cheese and ham on scones was not nice jam and cream would be better.
- The road leading to O'reilly's was a bit scary, especially as we are unused to driving on the left. I would have appreciated advanced notice about the road.
- Prices and reception not explaining the system with restaurant, you need to book and it is a buffet at $70 per head - make sure you ask for children otherwise you will be charged same price. App and reality are not same, check with reception as app is not updated it seems.

Bird Walk…Spa…views, pool. Lots to do, you can be as busy as you want to be. The Falls were magnificent!
Hike to the falls could be maintained to be a little safer. The old path is barely visible at certain points. You can see where old stones have been buried over time.
My wife and I are from Ontario, Canada and were visiting Australia for the first time. O'Reilly's is one place that several people had told me about. We are very serious amateur nature photographers, so the bird life there was impossible to resist. And the wildlife was absolutely amazing! We saw their famed Regent Bowerbirds, a pair of Albert's Lyrebirds, Noisy Pittas, and even a brief glimpse of a Paradise Riflebird. And we were lucky to come away with some great shots of many different species. The hiking trails were very beautiful as well. If you are looking for bird life and scenic hiking, O'Reilly's is amazing!
We were both somewhat disappointed with the hotel itself, which was a bit of a common theme in reviews I had read when booking our stay. Our room was quite old, and although I wouldn't say it was dirty, I also would not say that it felt particularly clean. It was just a bit dark and outdated. We had a "Mountain View" room that really did not have much of a view at all. We were tucked away in a corner where we could see some hills, but not the mountains. It was their big birding week, so I understand that there was a big group of birders there and many rooms were full. But I had booked our stay well over a year in advance, so it was definitely frustrating that we seemed to kind of just be shoved to the side. In addition, as many others have commented, O'Reilly's knows that they have a special place, and they are not afraid to upcharge because of it. The buffet was RIDICULOUSLY expensive at $70AUD/person, and frankly, it was one of the worst meals we had during our 3.5 week trip. The food was not very good, and both of our stomachs were a little off afterward. The cafe on the other side of the retreat had much better food, although it was still very expensive. Overall, we are happy we stayed and came away with some wonderful photos, but the hotel itself could use some upgrades and changes.
Simply an extraordinary place in the middle of nowhere and nature, reached after a long and hazardous drive. Lovely guestroom with very nice furniture - a bit small though, with not many places where you could lay out stuff. Had quite some luggage, so would not have wanted to share the room with someone, not even with someone close. No TV in the room - and no need for it, as you can chat to the visiting parrots on the verandah and enjoy the fabulous views, go hiking or bird watching - which is the most amazing thing at O'Reilly's. (I recommend a hat and long sleeves for parrots landing on you.)If you don't want your room serviced (Green Card), you get a free drink at the bar.Delicious food, sparkling O'Reilly's wine and super friendly staff at the bar - which is like a restaurant, just a bit more casual. (Didn't try the buffet at the restaurant.)Free bird walk early in the morning, what an experience! Free afternoon tea, manager talk with free bubbles. Very welcoming reception.Didn't use it, but was at the Infinity Pool - it looks sensational, and the view!Over all, could have stayed there much longer than two nights. Simply outstanding.Tip:Best to go there during the week because more traffic on this extraordinary access road (blind corners, hairpin curves, one-lane sections etc) can be exhausting. Locals told me that O'Reilly's can be quite overrun on the weekend.
I had a guestroom with plantation shutters on both sides (entry door and verandah) - looks nice but people were walking past the windows all the time, so I had the shutters always closed on one side and closed them on the other side, too, when I needed privacy. Net curtains would surely not look very appealing - but lack of privacy or constant darkness is not great either. Best compromise is to keep the shutters closed on the door side because there is far more foot traffic than on the verandah side. In the end no big deal. The bed was far too soft for my taste, I sank in like in a hammock.Coffee at the café (shop) not worth the money.
Just a stunning location! Lots of great facilities, all with amazing views.
Don’t get in room meal delivery. Very poor service, expensive and arrived cool, squished into a paper take away box with unusable wooden cutlery. No napkin, salt or pepper. Had to eat it with my hands!
An unforgettable rainforest retreat with superb food and panoramic views. The breakfast and dinner buffets were top-notch, and the access to multiple hiking trails right from the property made it a nature lover’s paradise. The restaurant staff were attentive and genuinely caring.
The resort ran out of water for several hours on the last day, which was unexpected for a property of this caliber. Though management arranged emergency water just before checkout, contingency planning could be improved.
The location of the resort is outstanding and the opportunity for hikes is great. Tour staff are knledgable (bird walk) and both knowledgeable and friendly and provided a real adventure ( e-bike tour with Matt).
We selected a room which turned out to be a high traffic area. Parking was tricky initially as other cars can crowd spaces.
The seating on the balconies was nice, with all the birds
There could have been a chair & little table inside for convenience, and a bin in the room not just the bathroom
Gorgeous property! We hope to come back with family and spend more time. We appreciated the eco friendly option to forego room cleaning for a free drink. Pricing may seem on the higher side but when you realise how remote the retreat it is, it is very reasonable. There are plenty of food and activity options so we didn’t have to leave the site during our stay (nor did we want to!) The staff were all delightful. We enjoyed the glow-worm tour and Moran’s walk and will return to do the stargazing and explore further. It was too cloudy and rainy on the evening of our stargazing tour for it to go ahead. We appreciated the tour guide’s decision to cancel the stargazing tour rather than take us on a potentially rainy tour where we could hardly see anything. This reflected their honesty and genuine eagerness to ensure a great experience for all guests.
We liked everything.
Beautiful views and nature, great spot. Facilities are great. Loved the pools.
The staff and food offered are terrible. You’re better off to do a full shop of groceries and cook the entire time. We had burgers at the cafe which were below average, with stale bread and dubious quality of ingredients. The staff is completely clueless at their jobs. The lady conducting the wildlife encounters comes and narrates down a learnt spiel then leaves? without any interaction with the audience or questions from the kiddos.
The view, the range of activities offered.
Cute little birds nesting outside our door (on the light) but a lot of poop on the steps. At dinner, we went to the buffet to get our dessert and our table was cleared when we got back (as if we’d finished and gone) - including my husband’s half finished alcoholic beverage.
Spa pool is old, small and out of order. There was no information whether we will be staying in an older or newer accommodation room. The infinity pool experience was e very good.Fly screens were in a need of attention.
Great location. Nice balcony in the villa.
The accomodation needs investment. We stayed for 2 nights and had to call for maintenance staff 3 times. :/ First, the aircon would not turn off. This was resolved quickly. Second, The fridge broke on our 2nd day, meaning our food (cheese, milk, ham etc) spoiled and our drinks were warm. The repairman could not resolve this, so we were provided with an ice bucket and 4 beers to have with our dinner. The hotel gave us access to the breakfast buffet on our last morning. Third, The TVs in the villas are very old. Pre-smart TV. So there we no on demand options, and the Foxtel card was not working so we had no usable TV. The repairman came to the room and was with us for over an hour while he called and upgraded the card. Really nice guy and we appreciate it being resolved, which gave us some foxtel channels, however, having 3 callouts and one lasting over an hour was not how we wanted to spend our family time. Staff are pleasant, chatty and helpful, but can only work within the constraints of a dated resort/villas with poor appliances. *Note that the jacuzzi in the 4 person villas fits 2 people.
Great setting. Close to the walks I wanted.
My room was quite small. The air conditioner was crap. The unit would go from freezing to hot on one temperature setting. Hardly slept all night. End up with a cold. Travelling by myself, a tv would have been nice. But the wifi was good.
The breakfast was lovely. Slightly expensive I felt. $30-36 would be more accurate.
General upkeep of property was lacking. Carpets need renewingTimbers need some careWindows need cleaning especially in bird observatories Generally slightly expensive meals across all venues.Appreciated very much welcome drink, offered snacks
So my sister and I stayed during the cyclone. Couldn't do anything but the staff were so lovely and kind. Despite the weather it was a great memorable experience ? and the manager gave us a refund for our second night as we thought we should get back while we could before the storm got worse. Thank you guys
Our room was very spacious and comfortable with lovely mountaintop views. We enjoyed casual meals available at the bar with very friendly staff.
We felt the buffet dinner was a little expensive and would have preferred an a la carte menu.
My guests enjoyed their stay.
Parking was too far from rooms (4 & 5....and was very wet during our stay)
