Wanderers Retreat

Lovely private setting. Beautiful pool. Quiet location close to beaches.

We are grandparents visiting Australia from California. We took our daughter and her two young children who live in Australia to Wanderers Retreat as a get away. It was wonderful with the children. We do not like large, crowded, noisy accommodations which we saw all around. WR is wooded and somewhat secluded. The children loved the pool, table tennis and hot tub at our house. It worked out very well for us. And getting an upgrade was an added bonus. Also there were not pesky insects around!

Wanderers is in a beautiful location. It's quite serene being surrounded by the forest but only a short walk to the beach. The cabins are clean and well appointed. The owner is a lovely man who makes you feel welcome.

It is a very really relaxing location with close proximity to both One Mile beach and Boat Harbour beach. One mile beach is easy walking distance. Boat Harbour is further at 1.5 km but it's an easy drive. The cottage is well equipped and whilst we didn't use the pool it's something that a lot of people would enjoy.

Minor thing and not that mattered was that the TV couldn't be tuned on free to air using the aerial, however, it's worth fixing for other guests.

Location & setting are great.

Few items need maintenance. Smoke alarm went off both nights around 4-5am for no reason. Bathroom had no functioning exhaust fan & only 1 heat lamp working. Very difficult to dry towels & room.

We had a lovely time staying in the Wanderers Retreat. A lovely break from the city. The private spa was a bonus. We absolutely loved it. Lovely and remote but a short walk to a beautiful beach. Gorgeous stay

Wonderful stay. Perfect hosts and lovely comfortable cabins with kitchen and bbq. Quiet, close to the beach. Couldn't ask for much more. Wonderful escape and look forward to coming back again.

Not a massive problem for us, but the WiFi was unreliable and I struggled to get reception with my Optus sim, and you need Internet to stream to the TV, and so could be an issue if you're combining work and holiday.

The amenities where great we really enjoyed the hot tub and the bbq

The bed was a bit hard for our liking other than that it was great

The location was tranquil and conveniently located to shopping centers and various beaches. It is an ideal place for nature lovers, as several kinds of wildlife are on the property (such as birds, spiders, opossums, snakes, and other species). The little opossum house just outside our cottage was a nice touch. The in-room spa and kitchenette made the prospect of staying inside even more appealing as we were able to cook a meal and enjoy the sounds of different animals in the evenings.

The oven and the barbecue weren't working as the temperature dial for the oven wouldn't turn and despite starting the gas for the barbecue, and pressing the ignition, there was no fire (other than a slight spurt the first time I used it). The barbecue also seemed quite dilapidated as the insides were filled with soot and it seemed that they have not been used for quite some time.

Absolutely perfect. Loved the tree house cabin, the spa bath was amazing, the bbq was a great touch as well, and the sound of the beach and the birds was just so relaxing.

If I had to be picky, the bed was a little uncomfortable.

Comfortable, clean, staff was great. Great location. Will be staying again.

The place was infested with cockroaches. Had to leave the light on a night, had a terrible sleep.

Quiet and beautiful spot. Really felt like a little escape.

All the mosquitoes! The bed could have been more comfortable.

Beautiful clean rooms. Great natural outdoor environment. Lovely welcoming staff.

The light was too blue and bright. Warmer lighting would be good.

Peace and Quiet the best.. ! Short walk to beach , and loved the nightly "visits" by possums, and waking up to birds..

Treehouse cabin is not "new" , but is as described.. Could do with a bit of a tidy up.. But still great, as is.. !

I liked the fact that it was very quiet, and great outdoor garden all around the property ,lots of wildlife the kids loved it.We loved staying at the retreat , everyone seemed happy .

Close to the beach with excellent environs, especially the shady trees. Very comfy inside with a very helpful manager.

The location, facilities and aesthetics are great.

The beds were very squeaky and uncomfortable.

Amazing Australian rainforest surroundings.Beautifully setup Treetop Studio with spa, crispy clean bed linen, great amenities and kitchen supply.Bathrobes and masks were a great touch.BBQ setting is great on veranda and the whole experience was very romantic and private, with curious possums as a neighbours. Close to Anna bay beach and short drive to Nelson Bay
