Pros +

  • The location was in the City Center, which was the perfect place to step outside your accommodation and explore the area. I appreciated the ability to do a late check-in as I was traveling NZ for the first time and often times was caught in the moment and arrived to Harbor View Hotel later than expected. The staff were all warm, sincere, and easy to talk to and ask questions.
  • Great central location nice rooms friendly staff
  • Location was perfect for exploring Raglan town. It was cool being in a historic hotel.

Cons -

  • There wasn't anything I could say I didn't like about my stay at the Harbor View Hotel. It was delightful and for such a good deal. I was concerned about the bar being downstairs and my stay being on a Friday night, but that wasn't an issue.
  • It was as advertised as expected = it's a historic hotel with shared bathroom facilities- there is always some level of inconvenience when the bathroom is outside the room but the hotel was quiet and we felt we had the facilities to ourself despite their being other there.
  • The shower and toilets are in the corridor and the room was small, but for us it was perfect and it is reflected in the very reasonable price.

The hotel is full of charme - very old, very beautiful, with a nice bar and restaurant.

The shower and toilets are in the corridor and the room was small, but for us it was perfect and it is reflected in the very reasonable price.

Consider a name change - maybe StreetView Backpackers?

Be warned, this is not a hotel. I honestly felt like I had been scammed when I arrived at the Harbourview Hotel. First off - the establishment doesn't even come close to a motel, let alone a hotel. There are no ensuites, your room is directly above the bar and there was literally nothing in the room except a bed and a sink. With the sink in the corner, it was honestly more comparable to a prison cell. Our second mistake (number 1 being booking the HarbourView Hotel in first place) was staying on a Saturday night. It was 4pm and the bar was already pumping downstairs. This was enough to foreshadow the sleepless night ahead. We were probably better off sleeping in the toilet as it was quieter down that end than it was in our own room. Along with this, the room didn't feel private at all, with people constantly walking right outside our window and along the balcony. Overall, we were unhappy with the price we paid versus what we got - which was far from a hotel room. To top it all off - you couldn't even see the harbour.

Great central location, however a bit noisy at times. It is a pub though and I loved being right in town.Great staff, very helpful

The location was great - in the middle of town next to a supermarket able to walk to any cafe sights - great to sit on the upperbalcony and watch the worldgoby.

Best rooms were booked out had to accept a lesser standard room but it was my choice - potential guests should be aware that the accommodation is more like basic back packers - walk down hallway to toilet shower lounge and tea making facilities.

Duvet inners seemed clean and the bed was very well made (top sheet was severely stained and or dirty). Good place to crash for a night and there's a sturdy lock on the door.

Sheets (top) were nasty which turned me off of the whole place. Room felt cold and uninviting. Questionable and outdated decor. I was too scared to consume any of the food or drinks provided. There was a random sink next to the bed which... seemed convenient but out of place and odd? I personally would never return or recommend till some changes are implemented.

The owners were very patient with our drunk group being a bit loud a bit late

It was convenient and reasonably priced.

Shared bathroom. Dated. Bed was fairly comfortable but too small for my 6ft3in husband. No idea it would have a bunk on the top. No side tables . Only found that there was instant coffee in a small lounge when we were leaving. . Luckily good coffee shops in Raglan. It was fairly cheap, but discovered that when you use booking.com they add not only a fee, but vat on top. If we had paid directly to the hotel , the vat was inclusive, so we paid at least 15% more.

Great location to all the shops and restaurants

Only one men's toilet A rubbish bin in each room

8EmilyPosted on: 2-17-2025

Location and deck view.

Window couldn’t be locked unless it was slightly open. Would have liked the option to lock the window all the way closed.

Discovered we weren’t in the hotel at all……. In a flat under a house a few streets away. Definitely a bit confused as no indication of this when we booked. Nice place but very random when you’re expecting to be in the actual hotel

Full size fridge….No milkNo teaNo soap

Staff were helpful and friendly, greet balcony for hotel guests to use.

Black mould on ceiling of communal shower, topper bedding was stained and entire bedding needs an upgrade!!

The location is right in the centre of Raglan, great for experiencing the town.

Room wasn’t ready/cleaned when I arrived. The separate shower was blocked/didn’t drain well. The room is stuffy. On the weekend, the pub noise continues until midnight, expected, but need to be aware. I felt the staff did their best, being understaffed on a very busy weekend.

Great location, Staff were excellent

Very basic, we knew this at the time of booking so no surprises. Shared bathroom. Sink in bedroom was badly cracked.

Comfortable room, very tidy premises, friendly staff.

7GrahamPosted on: 1-27-2025

It's a great location right in the centre of Raglan, with several bars which were very lively on the Friday night we arrived. Although the room was small the beds were comfortable.

You need to be prepared for a bit of noise if you have a front room, with people out on the terrace in front both late evening and early morning. The facilities and decor are a bit of a throwback to hotels of 50 years ago and are in need of modernisation.
