Pros +
- It¿s a flash from the past. Check in with hotel employee was great, and the room and bar/restaurant exceeded our expectations. Note that¿s it¿s a dated experience but that¿s what makes it unique. We will be happy to stay here again in the future.
- Nothing - It is long since past it's use by date!
- Good value
Cons -
- No Wi in your room. Dining/breakfast room so old, tired and dingy. Had to practically jump over the sink in order to get out of the room. Bathrooms like in a hospital or dorm somewhere and not close to room. Bad smell throughout the whole hotel.
- Old building
- Firstly when we walked in there was no staff and the hotel looked derelict. It looked like it hadn’t been touched since the 1950’s. A sign told us to message a guy via WhatsApp, however we went into an old looking bar where a guy checked us in. When entering the room we were met with an unpleasant smell. The room was dirty and dingy. The bathrooms were full of mould and looked as if they hadn’t been cleaned in a long time. When walking through the hall there were broken windows and the place looked unfurnished. Downstairs there was a living room where a 1 eyed cat could often be found (no prior warning of this- especially if you are allergic to cats). There was a large tub of moldy cutlery which was off putting when wanting to use the facilities. All in all if we were not needing to stop in the area we would have moved on.

It was in a good stop off location on our road trip.

Guy running the place mixed up many room placements and we were running around trying to get into the right room. Stupid
Holes in the floor and wallpaper. But mainly bad attitude of the owner who can’t do his job properly
The cleanliness was brilliant, the sheets magnificent and the lovely house cleaner was so friendly I cant remember her name. The Wifi was also really good. Loved being able to take my dog. Great proximity to the small town.
Its a tired hotel given that, it was more of a back packer style accommodation with lots of people arriving later in the evening, talking in the corridors and making a little bit of noise. We were only there for the night so not really a big deal.
Good location
Bed and bed frame not comfortable to sleep at all . Internet is very bad
Easy to find, free parking
Dated decor, poor lighting in room and damages within common areas including bathroom
Location was great
The first room I had didn’t have electricity, it was very bare bones and the entire establishment needs a renovation
Convenient location for skiing at Mt. Dobson, just a 40-minute drive.
The bathroom and toilet in the middle made the room feel a bit damp.
DO NOT STAY!!@
The room temperature was dangerously low and well below acceptable health standards. There were no functioning heaters provided. When I raised this concern, I was told the bed had electric blankets. After further insistence, I was handed a visibly damaged and likely non-compliant white fan heater, which did little to improve the situation.Things were so bad that we drove to Geraldine to stay in a very nice motel.Additionally, the basin tap was leaking, adding to the overall neglect and discomfort. The name has grand hotel. There was nothing grand about it.
Hotel has great atmosphere. Good parking. Super clean rooms, beds and toilets. Great lounge available for eating own food.
Clean room & bedding, great location in the heart of Fairlie, dog-friendly and easy-going staff. This place is great value for money in Mackenzie District.
The proximity to the town for our evening meal on Thursday night and the ANZAC Day Dawn Service
The decor was extremely dated with several holes in our wall. The shared bathroom facilities were very poor with some taps not working. Only one bathmat per shower which was being used by other patrons. Ideally a clean mat per room should be provided. No spare toilet paper to replace empty rolls. Fortunately I had a tissue up my sleeve. Only one power socket in the bedroom which meant that only one side of the electric blanket could be used. This could have solved by having a short extension cord with a double adaptor. The hair dryer was in the corridor which meant that people using it late a night disturbed us. The rubbish bin in the dining room was far too small leading to more rubbish on the floor than in the bin.
The location was good.
Overpriced, false advertising - we got a family room with our 1 year old son and the room was big enough however not what we were expecting. There was cracks in the roof, one of the lights didn’t work, the jug they offer is in a dining room for everyone, they didn’t supply bowls or plates, the only taps we found were in the bathroom. No tv in the room.
Location is great.
Kitchen Facility is not available like stove basin etc NoisyVery old
good location
We stayed family room. when I checked the details of the room. looked like there are dining table, children high chair, fridge, microwave etc… so that why we chose the room. However, there were only bed and small drawer. Even there was no rubbish bin or water facility( some other rooms have) There is dining table downstairs. No children high chair. there was toaster but no plates. There was drinking water on a table but we wondered when they put the water last time. There were coffee cups on trays but those trays were dust on it and dirty…all vacancy rooms’s windows were open and doors were open. when we need to go to bathroom or shower, the corridor was cold…. There was no paper towel in there….We were so disappointed how much we paid for there.
In a nice town with a good bakery nearby. Internet was good.
Regardless of being in the budget price range, we expected it to be cleaner, especially in the bathrooms. We are familiar with accommodation in old country pubs but this was not up to scratch. The communal dining room was very dingy and poorly equipped with mugs but no cutlery and no crockery even though there was a fridge, microwave, toaster etc.
The Gladstone is a historic landmark, first built in 1884 and updated in 1916. Everything was very clean. We had a simple double room with shared bathrooms. Very pleasant and helpful hosts. At the relatively low cost it was a good bargain for a one night stay. While on the Main Street of Fairlee, there was no traffic noise at night even with the window open.
The interior of the Gladstone is relatively dated. Multiple faucets did not work (the hot water in our room and some in the bathrooms).
Very poor
Very old and outdated, Didnt feel safe there. Smoke alarms hanging off the wall and one in the room we had the smoke alarm was sitting on the floor.
