    Pros +

    • Within walking distance of the CBD, clean and tidy, friendly staff.
    • Stay 2 nights in a double bed studio unit. location of motel is good, close to everything. carpark space was less than 10 meters away from the front door. Hairdryer in the communal bathroom.
    • I really liked the friendly, no-nonsense, easy welcome and check-in. Large screen TV. Large modern bathroom and great shower. Small but adequately equipped kitchen. Really easy walking distance to Whale Watch and main shopping street. Parking right in front of the room.

    Cons -

    • Parking a problem, one inconsiderate guest can upset everybody's access to their units. Need to upgrade their heatng.
    • Beddings stained. Soundproof not good, can hear neighbor unit snoring and ... No SKY, no Netflix, only normal TV channels. Communal toilet dirty and bathroom were clean.Getting in and out of the motel needs patience, as it is located on the main highway.
    • Being right on the main highway isn't so nice, but there is greenery between the room and the road which is nice. The decoration is a bit dark and old fashioned but for me anyway had its charm.

Location is great in that you can walk into town for dinner The 1 bedroom did allow a bit of privacy/ separation between the front of the unit — ie the living room (where our 22 year old slept on the pullout couch — with a door that then led to the galley kitchenette and bathroom- with a bit of a door also to the bedroom with the 2 twin beds - where us 65+ parents slept

The worst thing was that the 2 twin beds were the most uncomfortable beds that we had slept in, in our 3 week travels through NZ and 1 in Fiji. (And we’ve stayed in over a dozen places on this trip). The uncomfortable beds helped us make the decision to forfeit the 2nd nights cost, and stay in Blenheim instead (where we had gone for a day trip). We concluded that 1 day in Kaikōura was enough to see the seals and town. Highly recommended Blenheim for your own “wine tour” .. but I digress. If I were to get to Kaikoura again, I’d try somewhere different

Location was great- a short walk to most of the shops/restaurants as well as the main beach. Easy drive to a lot of places. The rooms were decent size given the extra seating area and small kitchenette. Beds were relatively comfortable as well.Good value for money.

Can be a little noisy- if you are sensitive to noise, bring ear plugs. Bathroom was small but sufficient.

Staff and service were excellent, very friendly and attended to requests immediately.Could see the sunset from the back porch, great proximity to town. The size was great for our family of four

We had to ask for enough plates & towels for the number of guests

This is a large apartment with multiple rooms, all with doors. Kitchen facilities, bathroom, tv, tables, chairs...all in a complex at the edge of the centre of town. Comfortable beds, close to shops (even when walking away from the centre of town). Master bedroom opens on to shared deck that overlooks other cabins and some nearby hills.

This property is located on what amounts to a major highway (like most of the accommodation in this town). Noise is unbearable in the apartment room closest to the road. Some mitigation behind multiple closed doors in the master bedroom. More precisely, the property is located at a point in the highway where there is a junction and a slight incline, meaning more breaking and acceleration noise than elsewhere.

Relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff & flexible management. Parking available next to the room. Great location - a short walk from the beach and the shops and checking in for our kayak trip (kayak with seals) in the morning simply involved walking across the road. It was that close.Great value - especially given the location - and the accommodation was everything we needed: clean, comfortable and all the basics present - but keep in mind this a motel / caravan park. Don't expect 5 star luxury.

Great Location close and Convenient to CBD and shops. Our House Keeper/Cleaner during our stay was very helpful nice and friendly.

The room was not ready when we arrived, I rang the bell and waited at reception for 10 minutes and ended up calling the 0800 number before anyone came to help. The fridge and microwave needed a good clean before I could use and the wooden floor needed a good sweep. We were given the middle room ( a motel unit in the camping area) It was very noisy. We were told it is a nice quiet room the walls were covered in a type of spongy fabric probably to mask the noise but you could hear everything through the walls. It was very disturbing to be sleeping then woken up in the middle of the night to the sound of someone taking a pee in the room next to you multiple times during the night and the sound of the toilet flushing, running water and people snoring loudly and walking around. The bed was very hard. Upon inspection after stripping the bed on departure I discovered the mattress was made up of a few very old single spring mattress with a topper pad on top. This Property is currently under Refurbishment.

room was ok size and had jug and TV etc. Bed was comfortable and room was close to shared bathroom (being renovated but was given a discount to make up for it). the heating was fantastic and there was also electric blanket though i didnt need it as the heater was fantastic.

showers/toilets are dated. not sure if that is part of the renovation going on?

    8RosalindPosted on: 4-28-2025

The cabins were modern and clean, well priced and it was a great location

The bathrooms are in need to a refresh. You can tell they are working on parts of the accommodation so I look forward to seeing what the bathrooms are like in the future

Such wonderful customer service. Very accommodating, friendly and went above expectations with service. Thank you!!

The building is getting a little older otherwise we were very happy and slept so well on the very comfortable beds. Perfect overnight stop while moving from the South Island to North Island.

The owner of the hotel is very friendly and helpful. She solved problem positively, and she shared a lot of useful information with us, she even could share some of her own sesame oil and vinegar with us when she knows we were boiling dumplings. The weather was very bad when we stayed there, but the air conditioner and heaters in every room were very nice! The location is pretty good too. It’s very close to the railway station and whales watching as well as the town center.

    8RobertPosted on: 4-24-2025

    Location is good,

Little on the expencive side, but it is a touristy village.
