- Nice hotel right on the beach, very attentive owners as well.
- Really cute hotel. Friendly host who lives on site. You can tell they put a lot of thought and care into the accommodation, even left a cup of milk in the fridge for me for my tea/coffee. Good location. There is every amenity you would need/want.
- Excellent location close to restaurants and cafes. Nice courtyard. Room was very clean. Manager was very friendly, kind, and helpful.
Cons -
- Could tell the rooms weren't that well insolated (wind/noise etc.) but didn't bother me at all.
- Room we reserved was super small and cramped.

Location and friendliness
Window a bit draughty
Beautiful courtyard, friendly staff and beach across the road for a morning dip. Lovely character building and a great place to stay
Not much at all really.
The price, the size of room, the severe condensation on windows.so bad in bathroom the towels were damp.nowhere to put anything.two hooks on wall to hang clothes.
LOVE the fact they moved the parking to the side to create a lovely meandering garden courtyard between the rooms - (it's sooooo much nicer than motels that have carparks right outside each room). Also loved the guest lounge with a view, (and a bar). Both the lounge and the garden area really add to the experience, having these 2 spaces to hang out, instead of only your room, makes it feel so much more spacious and sociable. Very much appreciated. Also liked the comfy bed, and the bright colourful contemporary room decor - from the out-there floral wallpaper, to the stylee lampshade, and yes to the hooks on the wall. It all makes it feel like the owners care about your experience as a guest - thanks!
The courtyard rooms are quite small and their coffee-making area is pretty tiny. But you have the other spaces to make up for it. :)).
We had a very nice overnight stay at the Boutique Hotel Kaikoura. The chalets were nice and I particularly enjoyed the breakfast the next morning. It was also a bonus to have parking readily available on site.
Really friendly staff, breakfast was OK and room was comfortable. Location was just on the edge of town which was perfect.
Compared to every other place we stayed in New Zealand this was the poorest value. Quite expensive for the room and amenities. If the price were lowered by 50% this would have been a perfect stay.
The location is great.
My husband and I struggled with the word 'boutique' associated with this hotel as we found it neither sophisticated nor small but rather pedestrian and cramped and there was absolutely no hospitality. Our room was incredibly small, you nearly fell over the bed coming out of the bathroom which was the size of a cupboard.
The room was very small. It had most things i. it but was very cosy
Breakfast was v disappointing. No hot food offered. cold boiled eggs on offer. fruit consisted of tinned peaches or tinned peaches with yougurt. there were two prunes left. barista coffee was on offer for five dollars extra!
Good communication between host and ourselves when we messaged. Room was clean, bed comfortable.
I was disappointed as I expected a Boutique hotel, particularly looking at the online photographs! However, having stayed in many places travelling in New Zealand I would suggest this is more like a motel, our room was only adequate. Breakfast was extremely poor, filter coffee was included in the breakfast but tasted really awful.
Room was fairly basic but very clean. However, the breakfast was excellent with a good choice of food available. The location was excellent and the staff (owners) very friendly and helpful.
Location, the courtyard garden, personable hosts, the breakfasts, the breakfast and bar music selection is terrific
Having to pay extra for flat whites,
Great location with good views.
Breakfast was sub-standard for a so-called boutique hotel. Worst value for money during our two weeks in New Zealand.
Good location Friendly staff
Room quite small out in courtyard with very small bathroom
The staff were great gave us fantastic venues for dinner and always ready to give us local tips...all in a beautiful sea facing location in the quiet end of town....
That we couldn't stay longer
Wow. Great location, very clean and very friendly. Had a courtyard facing room. Lovely garden, so great vista. John was an amazing host and an absolute star. Loves his rugby, as do I and found we had a lot of heroes in common. Fancy that - a Kiwi and a taffy talking rugby. I cannot praise John and the kaikoura boutique enough. Lovely place to stay.
