- I stayed in one of the dog boxes. I crashed hard as I’d been riding all day. When I awoke that evening it was freezing. There were no blankets to be found and the heater didn’t work. No staff were onsite. I shivered my way through the night and didn’t get much sleep.

Lovely Tavern to chill out, have a cuppa , read magazine - friendly, helpful staff - thank you - bless you
Facilitles are limited but good. They have a good BBQ for use and the hotel serves good beer. Speaking to others, the food is also very good although we did our own cooking.

This is historical hotel with restaurant, while it has kitchen for self-catering travellers.
Need to bring Bed-linen to use back-packer rooms.
Very clean, hosts were awesome nice and the meals are exceptional.
Very comfortable cabin. Ordered breakfast of bacon n eggs which was great. Very quiet location.
Realized that my original booking didn't include linen or a towel. Was able to pay the extra and get upgraded.
Absolutely wonderfull experience, the staff are all so lovely and you can tell that they really care about the place. Food is fantastic for the price you pay and the hotel rooms are really clean and tidy.
The hotel itself is fine. Nice ambiance and good food.
The booking was for a queen room with shared facilities. We presumed we would be staying in the hotel. Not so. We got allocated a cabin (made out of same material as coolstore) which contained 2 single beds, a bedside table and a tv. Not much room for anything else. No bedding supplied apart from fitted sheet and pillow. No towels or toiletries provided. Shared facilities with campsite a short walk away across the lawn. Kitchen provided but substandard. Hotel itself is fine for drinking and dining.
I recently stayed at the cabin and was overall quite satisfied with my experience. The bed was comfortable (only sheets and a pillow were provided- as advertised). The price was good for what was offered, making it a great value. The bathroom, located conveniently close by, was clean and well-maintained, which I appreciated for the price range. One of the highlights for me was the covered outdoor seating area, which provided a comfortable and sheltered space to relax.
One downside of my stay was the check-in process, which took place at the pub. While not a huge issue, it felt a bit awkward and less streamlined than expected. Additionally, the staff wasn't particularly friendly during check-in, though I do recognize that I visited during a busy time of year, which may have contributed to their rush. Despite this, it didn't detract too much from the overall experience.
Bed was just like home :-)Staff were very helpfulAtmosphere was great
Noise from traffic across bridgeNeeded windows open for air circulation so couldn't keep noise outThought we'd booked a room in motel, didn't realize we'd booked a cabin.
Didn't have breakfast, location was great
Mosquitoes ?Beyond your control, maybe leave bug/insect spray?
Staff were super kind and welcoming. Cute little bar/restaurant and felt very homey/local there. The facilities were clean and there was basically no one else there so had the whole bathroom/area to myself. Good for short visit
I booked the room because Booking.com has the cover picture as a bed with linens, and when I arrived they said you need a sleeping bad or my own bed sheets for it, so I had to pay extra money to stay in the hotel room instead. The owner apologized and said that confuses people a lot so I think they should make that more obvious (I looked again after and there is a note about not having linens but it’s not obvious) so just be careful of that. Other than that comfortable stay
We arrived late but still we were able to order food. There was suppoused no single separated beds, but they sorted out for us when we arrived.
Very friendly and great food. The cabin was cheap and comfortable and suited us fine.
This place is literally in the middle of nowhere, on State Highway 8, between the larger areas of Roxburgh and Lawrence. It is the only place there, with nothing else around it. With the lack of light pollution, it's ideal for stargazers. The view surrounding the place is stunning, too - it would be a great place to camp during the Summer. The outside cabins are a good design with adequate heating and ventilation. Note, no bedding (i.e. blankets) or towel is provided. The cabins are about 30m outside the back of the hotel building. In between is a building containing separate male and female toilets and showering facilities, kitchen, and laundry. There's plenty of parking right outside the cabins. The bed and pillows were comfortable. A TV is provided with various channels available. Heating is good meaning you would have no problem in the middle of Winter (well, at least until you had to step outside to go to the bathroom!).I had a steak dinner inside the restaurant, which was adequate.
The big negative was that I was unaware of exactly what type of room I had booked before I actually turned up: I had thought I had booked a room in the hotel, and did not realise that I was outside in a cabin until arrival. Now, this is largely my fault as the email sent from Booking.com clearly stated this, however, while actually booking, this was not overt. Now, the cabins are very nice and I had no problem staying in one. However, the lack of linen provided an issue. Booking.com states you can rent this from $30, however, I was told this would be $50 at the desk. Either way, this is rather extortionate for use of a blanket and towel. Thankfully, the heating is good enough so that you can just turn that up. Note, the lack of towel as standard is rather poor and this lack is not clear from either Booking.com or it's emails (they mention linen, which suggested bedding only). The price of $70 for one night also seemed rather high for shared bathroom facilities; however, this was the cheapest on the route between Wanaka and Dunedin for the date.
The breakfast set us up for the day. Thank you to the cook who was very attentive. The portion was abundant.
As we were setting out to bike the Clutha Gold Extension we would have appreciated an earlier breakfast - eg 7:30 or 8:am.We understand that the cook/builder had worked until 10 pm.
The place was quiet and very clean and comfortable. We didn't expect to have such a comfortable stay and the cost was very reasonable with all the mod cons. We arrived quite late and the people in the bar were very helpful so we couldn't have asked for more.
The place was as advertised so there wasn't anything to complain about.
Staff fabulous. Clean and comfy. Great food available. Great parking.
