    Pros +

    • Great layout and kitchen options though having a small microwave or even an extra microwave in the common area would have been nice
    • - The location- there were towels, and the checkin was streamlined- it was clean- we only shared the bathroom with one other room.
    • The location was fabulous - short walk to town - and short walk to visitor info center - and trails.

    Cons -

    • It also would be nice to have somewhere to sit toiletries in shower.
    • - definitely run down and could use some maintenance or at least simple improvements such as a fly screen for the windows and more hooks in the bathroom and room!
    • all was great

We liked the very comfortable bed, the shower, the location, and the very friendly and helpful staff. We were impressed with the different options ( price ranges) for guests to choose from. We also enjoyed being able to prepare simple meals in the studio apt. The apt has a rustic feel to the decor ( this is good). It went well with the area of The Anau. Finally, the price was right. Very affordable for those on a budget.

We would have liked a microwave but understand the limits of a small space. Also, our room was next to the laundry room so it was noisy at times due to the traffic. Still, we would stay again and would also recommend it to others.

All beds in the 4 beds dorm are on the floor. There's ample shelving and electricity. Staff is super nice. Shared facilities are great.

The location was excellent. The rooms were clean and comfortable. They had lockers available for rent while doing the Kepler track which was very helpful

The lake was right across the street from our balcony

Wanted more coffee and could find staff

Very clean and quiet. There was parking available. The beds were sturdy and had privacy curtains. Lots of room to store goods next to the bed and also the drawers beneath the beds were pretty large (big enough to fit a carry-on luggage in). There was an extra kitchen in the building where we stayed. The heater to the lounge was on in the mornings which was a great touch considering the cold outside. The bbq area was pretty big and there was a clothing line outside.

The door to the room was a bit loud.

Good value room for a popular tourist town.

Glass door/wall not great for privacy

The location was amazing. The decor and layout of the room was stellar. Loved the linens and the hand soap. Laundry facilities and free on site parking. Would definitely recommend to others.

Some challenges with the heating system. It was hard to find the right temperature and the unit was slow to respond.

    Great location.

Small room and bathroom with not much room for suitcases. No elevator.

Location. Also, I called them during our day out to make sure I locked our room door and they promptly checked for me. I appreciated that very much.

The facility needs an upgrade. Bedding was nice , but the kitchen, etc.. is tired. It’s an old house converted to a hostel.

    10AmaraPosted on: 11-24-2025

This place was so worth the splurge!! I essentially had this gorgeous studio all to myself - everything was extremely comfy and I loved the aesthetic. Also, spotless!!! Which is very important to me. I also got to spend time with a friendly black cat. Parking isn't an issue either - even when full there's tons of free street parking right behind the place.

Not much of a view from the doors since these studios are on the lower level, so just a heads up before you book.

Nice room right on the lakefront, good pricing given location of Te Anau.

Room we had was suspended above the roadway through the accommodation which didn’t feel very private. Noise Insulation was poor with the other room we backed onto.

    8SarahPosted on: 11-19-2025

We had a comfortable, stylish, private garden cabin with easy access to the shared facilities. The kitchen was well-set up and lounge had boardgames and a view across the lake.

Unfortunately the whole town was in a black-out during our stay and we were without lighting, heating, cooking, hot water etc - so after a very cold and dark night we had to make new plans the next morning to leave the area.

    8RahulPosted on: 11-18-2025

The property was located centrally and was easy access. It is a decent option if you are looking for a single day stay, basic facilities provided.

    9PeachananPosted on: 11-4-2025

Modern, comfortable and spacious room. Impressed with the cleanliness! Very comfortable bed. Well-maintained and decorated. Minimal bathroom amenities but had everything we needed. Good location - right on the lake and walkable distance to cafes/restaurant area. Perfect for 2 nights stay.

Stairs right in front of room 5, so was abit loud with some guests dragging their luggage up/down the stairs. Also wifi signal was quite weak and dropped out alot. Otherwise all good.
