    Pros +

    • clean, nice kitchen and outside area
    • The location was extremely convenient. You can walk to downtown in 10 minutes.
    • The location was great and everything was clean. We had a double room and the bed was comfortable in a room with a fridge.

    Cons -

    • noisy beds. people going in and out during night which makes it noisy. als sqeeky bunk beds
    • Extremely overpriced Toilets/showers are tiny;can't hang your things Parking was impossible Kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms were in different buildings-very inconvenient (cold in winter) Pictures on website very deceiving Private cabin very cramped
    • The showers were cold. We stayed two nights and on both days the showers were cold which is a bit ridiculous for > £100 a night. Some staff were lovely but some acted like you were stupid when you asked a question. This was the case when asking about the sauna which wasn't turned on when we reserved a slot for it so we had to wait for it to heat up and book a different slot.

    Hot tub, cold plunge.

Noisy location, construction next door, could hear people upstairs

    6ErikaPosted on: 2-20-2026

It was affordable and close to the downtown.

The room was small. There was a lot of noise. The bathrooms were shared.

    Location

No parking, seperate bathroom with no place to get dressed, small showers, and a card hold for damages at a hostel?? They have laundry facilities that only take 2 dollar coins but they don't provide coins. And you need to use an app to access everything which is frustrating.

Loved hot pool, sauna, seating areas and lounge. Great staff. Friendly and ultra helpful.

Showers with no pegs/ rails for towel/ clothing

    Bathrooms were cleaned regularly.

Dorm rooms are extremely tight with limited storage leading to the rooms often being a mess. You can’t sit up on the bottom bunk and feels extremely claustrophobic. Rooms also smelt damp. The showers and toilets were cleaned but there was no space to get changed or hang your stuff. The showers were also cold.

Very close to town. Bed was comfortable and room was clean.

My room was at basement with very small windows. Need to move luggage up and down stairs. Toilet was shared. Room didn’t have ac and only have heater.

Good location just up hill from town, pods were clean and good shared kitchen facilities

Shower room was small not a lot of room to get changed given sharing dorms

Second time around booked with Hostel World. Got a call at 11 saying we needed to pay the full bill before mid day to reserve the room. I say but you've get a 15% deposit as security that we show up. I let them know we are both at work and is it possible after work. They let me know no. Great. My friend who I am staying with takes his lunch break early to head down and pay. He is there from 11:30 to 12:15- noone at reception. Apparently they all just dissappear. Then as I go to check my booking to call them. I see that my booking is canceled. We can't rebook because they already sold the room on. We are now homeless because accommodation throughout the whole of QT is sold out. We are now without any accomidation for the next two nights. I'm absolutely livid.

Jacuzzi & sauna a bonus! Spacious a nice atmosphere. Very clean and helpful reception staff

Bottom bunks were quite low so you couldn’t sit up, unlike very high top bunks.

the hot tub and sauna area were nice to have!

the staff wasn’t very helpful. laundry is a disaster. in my whole travel this has been the first hostel with such limited laundry capacity - in every possible way.

A cute hostel with a nice kitchen and outdoors area. An absolute plus is the hot tub and the sauna.

There were zero options for hanging anything while in the shower, and the showers themselves were just not the best. The bottom bunk beds had the least amount of space I had seen in any of the hostels.

    9ElizabethPosted on: 1-23-2026

Very close to the lakeside and main shopping area

Showers were dark and water kept going hot and cold

    6PanayiotaPosted on: 1-23-2026

The receptionist who checked me in was super polite and helpful. She also provided me with a towel. The beds have a curtain, a socket and a lamp. Lots of storage space. The hostel is close to the gardens, the center and the bus stop for the airport.

I requested a bottom bed beforehand and they assigned me a top one even though the bottom one was available. I had to go to reception and switch. Maybe i should have kept the top one because the bottom one is so small , you cant even sit up or stretch. The showers only have a curtain and they are right across the toilets where people come and go. There is not a single hook or shelf for your towel and products. And you can't even use the toilets to get dressed after because there's barely space to stand in the stall. The hand dryer is not working. The kitchen closes at 11pm which is a shame. What if somebody needs something to eat or water in the night? It's also closed at noon for cleaning. The laundry is a mess. It's open from 5-11pm and you have to wait there to secure a machine. The dryers do not have a timer and they go on forever. You have to go after 45' and check if your clothes are dry manually. People were not getting their clothes because they were thinking the cycle is not done, so everybody was waiting for a machine.Quite noisy hostel with people talking in the yard and running up and down the stairs.

The feel of the backpackers was modern and stylistic. Very close to the central hub of town, if I had've had more time there, it would have been easier to do lots of things in Queenstown from that central location.Digital electrical codes are great so you don't have to get your keys out to open the door every time. Lots of friendly people staying there made it feel very lively and popular.

As mentioned in other posts, the parking is tricky - being near the main hub means street parking is limited and the backpackers only has 5-6 carparks at the back but most of them are for campervans. Plus side, there is free parking between 6pm-8am down the road if you can get in quick. Light sleepers might struggle with certain rooms near the toilets. I slept through it but others might find it annoying.
