About

Nomad's Backpackers features one of the best locations in Queenstown, located in the heart of the town center, a 328 feet from the stunning Lake Whakatipu. Nomads Queenstown offers a variety of room types, from small and large dormitories to Private King rooms with en-suite. Many of the rooms have balconies with picturesque views of Lake Whakatipu and the Remarkables mountain range. There is an onsite cinema room, sauna and common area complete with smart TV, pool table, foosball table and vending machine. Guests can sample some of Otago’s finest wines or dabble in adrenaline, our onsite information desk will be able to book and organize a range of activities. As we are located in the heart of Queenstown one side of our property backs onto a popular social street (Searle Lane). Due to this we do experience noise from local bars especially over the weekend so please contact us directly if you are a lighter sleeper and we will do our best to allocate you to a room on the Church Street side of our property which is quieter. We also have free ear plugs available at our 24-hour reception if required. Please note that although the majority of our rooms have balconies, there is a small amount which face onto the laneway and only have a window. If you would like to ensure you have a balcony please email us directly on [email protected] or call us on +64 3 4413922.

    • Great location building was beautiful facilities were cool balcony was lovely door key on your phone was great bathroom was lovely rooms were clean good value for money guests were respectful lift was nice reception was really friendly and had a hair-dryer down stairs I'd stay again

    Cons -

    • Not clean. The bathroom toilet stall walls were gross - had not been cleaned in ages.
    • Metal bunks very noisy and moved when an occupant moved and ladders to top bunk very uncomfortable on bare feet. No socket by my top bunk. No shelf by the bunk to put any valuable items or phone. Locker doors broken. Very noisy u til 2am - there was a warning about noise but I wasn’t expecting a bar underneath the balcony
    • The bunk beds didn't have curtains and were old style bunks but guests were respectful No charging points near your bed like most hostels but the rest made up for that part

The hostel is ideally located in the city centre, making it very convenient. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The bathroom basin is very small.

    8FlossiePosted on: 2-18-2026

Good facilities, great staff, good place to meet people, location spot on.

No curtains on dorm beds. Plugs were far away from beds and rooms generally need an update but apart from that the facilities were good.

Location is right in the middle of a city. The crew is very helpful.

Due to central location there are parties around which might disturb during night. But the hotel is providing earplugs. In the bathroom there were no shelves so pretty inconvenient to put everything the floor.

Incredibly accommodating staff that were brilliant before our arrival and helped throughout our stay. Really comfortable rooms, great location.

    Location was perfect!

Hostels see a lot of people- constant in and out.. this was very much a college vibe.

    Nice hostel, big rooms.

No socket at the beds and no curtains. Kitchen is always very busy. Not too social.

The location was excellent. The shower was hot and the seperate toilet and bathroom in the dorm with the ensuite bathroom was excellent

It was noisy but that was to be expected. The bunk beds squeaked so everytime one person moved it disturbed the other person but again this was minimal: $5 to use a towel seemed a bit excessive.

    9FabricePosted on: 2-13-2026

Great rooms. Shared balcony on back street was noisy as we were warned. But when windows were closed, not really a problem.Really center of town and we had picked the hotel for the 24/7. We landed 9pm, reach hotel with the public bus for 10 NZD, reached hotel around 11pm and no problem for check in.

I know it is Queenstown, but a bit expensive value for money. But not much choice if you want to stay in expensive Queenstown

Location is perfect!Amenities are super great!kitchen well equipped Staff super

In my room, I don't know if this is the case for any room, there wasn't a big locker for our bags I had to leave it on the floor. Only one for small items. There was also no individual outlet!

    7KarenPosted on: 2-13-2026

Room was spacious with a view of the cable car. Bathroom was a wet room. We requested the Aircon which the staff turned on.

Needing earplugs at night. No hand towel provided. Had to use the chairs from the balcony in the room , no comfy chairs.

    10HelmyPosted on: 2-12-2026

We had a great view from a balcony right in downtown Queenstown. It wasn’t noisy and there was everything you needed including moisturising lotion. We had our own room.

    4BethanyPosted on: 2-12-2026

The only positive for me was the location, which was very convenient

Unfortunately, the rest of the stay was disappointing. The hostel was not clean, the bunk beds were uncomfortable, and my bedside light was broken. There were also no sockets near the beds, which made charging devices very inconvenient. The kitchen was dirty, with very few tables available for eating and not enough fridge space for guests’ food. The communal bathrooms flooded regularly, which needs urgent attention.
