Hanting Hotel Xiamen Zhongshan Road 1st Wharf Seaview

The location is great, a stroll and you are by the water, on same side catch bus 29 to the beach, temple university. Bus on opposite side 116 takes you to Xiamen station. No English but we got by with the app which answered all my questions. Staff were great.

Had previous stayed there (hotel was storing our luggage), so returned for a night. Previous room did not have a window, so this time we booked and made sure we had a window. Yes, there was a window, BUT... window did not lock, and the wooden shutters outside also did not lock. Not exactly a concern on the 3rd floor, EXCEPT that right outside the room was a patio, so no real view, and easy access to the window from outside, though the window was quite small. This is a hotel where the elevator was coded to your room key (only able to press floor button after swiping card). Next time, I'd opt for a windowless room as we didn't spend much time in the room anyway. Convenient location to BRT; central train station is approximately 6 stops away. Front desk can be jammed when a large tour group checks in, but not the fault of staff, rather management.

While the room had a window, we had also booked a queen bed. The downside was, the bed was the room. There was less than a meter space between the bed and each of the 3 walls (4th was the head of the bed). Staff explained that getting a room with a queen bed made the room small. Had to pack/unpack suitcases in the entryway as there was no room in the room itself.

Room convenient for ferry to Gulang Yu. Morning ferry leaves from a different terminal than the one down the street from the hotel. To reach bus for morning ferry terminal: turn left from hotel, walk down a couple of blocks on same side of street as hotel, and you will reach a multi-bus stop (each bus route has its own drive). Bus 51 goes from here and ends at the ferry terminal (15-20 minutes). The evening return ferry from Gulang Yu leaves from a different island dock (short walk from morning arrival), and docks 2 blocks from hotel. Carrefour supermarket within walking distance (long walk) of hotel, in large shopping mall. Large pedestrian street on the way. Hotel did store our luggage for several days while we went to Fujian tulou. When informed about the discrepancy in room description/actual room, Booking.com stepped up to help with the situation. Their help appreciated.

Room photos TOTALLY WRONG on Booking.com. Type A rooms DON'T have a window (this from front desk staff); photos on Booking.com show they do. Room sufficient for our needs (no window), just not the room we were expecting. When leaving at 7:00 AM, requested a hotel receipt, but the "new" night clerk did not know how to print out one (previous experience at other Hanting Expresses - simple button push on the computer). Didn't have the time to wait around for more experienced staff to arrive. We like the Hanting Express chain; once room description/photos changed, I would raise my rating.
