Pros +
- Staff was nice.
- Amazing location and beautiful modern Mexican architecture, great people, nice food…what more do you need? Underground pool and steam bath was a great experience included in our deal. Rooftop pool and views are stunning. We would love to come back - thank you, Otro team
- Lovely design throughout.. Staff helpful at every turn and always with a smile. Breakfasts were lovely and the view from the rooftop in the evening is beautiful, especially with a cocktail. Private use of the 'Otro Mundo' pool is well worth booking - make the time.
Cons -
- Property is not well maintained, the rooms lack comfort and convenience at the bare minimum. Bathroom has a smell even the odor spreads in the room. We had booked 2 rooms, both had same issues. Food is less than basic, breakfast is not recommended. Overall the staff is nice and tries to be helpful but unfortunately the property lacks everything, and is overrated in my opinion.
- For us it was ok but the pool is cold, few people use it I think. The rooftop need shade, umbrellas? another reason why we where always alone? The architecture needs a lot of maintenance, a job to be done, you see some parts suffer. It’s an expensive place so you expect a lot of :-)
- DO NOT GO TO THIS HOTEL IT'S A SCAMLack of soundproofing: We were disturbed by noise throughout our stay, including hearing every door opening, footsteps in the hallway, and noise from nearby planes. This level of sound disturbance is unacceptable for a hotel of this price range.Inadequate lightproofing: The bedroom door did not reach the floor, allowing constant light from the hallway to seep through all night, significantly disrupting our sleep. No hot water: We had to wait over 15 minutes for water that was only lukewarm at best.Persistent unpleasant odors: There was a strong, constant sewer-like smell in the bathroom and toilet, which made the environment uncomfortable.Unacceptable room conditions: The first room we were offered did not have a proper window and was located directly beside the reception, leading to noise from both the front desk staff and the loud music played there.Overall amenities: the rooftop was way smaller than on the pictures and the pool was not clean thus unusable. The breakfast quality is not at the quality standard you expect for the price and located in the reception area which does not feel welcoming.

The staff is great but very unlucky to work in such a bad hotel.

The location, underground cenote and rooftop pool & bar were fantastic. Service was very attentive and friendly too. Breakfast included.
Design, colors, terrace pool, bbq long table area, decoration, atmosphere, location, materials, interiors.
Bed corners are dangerous to get hurt.Steep stairs to walk. There is not an elevator in the hotel.Water and sauna were cold.
Loved the spa and massages. The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Very new, super friendly staff, beautiful rooms, wonderful location, swimming pool on top of roof lovely. A real haven in busy Oaxaca
Convenient location - apart from the fact taxis cannot drop you outside the hotel & you have to wheel your cases over cobbles in the blazing heat.
There are hotels to avoid and there are hotels to recommend. Sadly, Otro features in the first category. Why may you ask? Well, it is advertised as a design hotel. Design certainly features, but not in a good way. The minimalistic set up results in discomfort, rather than the opposite. Bare walls, tiny rooms, hard beds, bunker-styled shower rooms, cold water just when you want a hot (or at least warm) one in time to walk out for dinner. Despite raising the hot water problem with reception (I note this is a recurrent problem according to other reviewers), no improvement was made during our 4-night stay. The rooms are cramped in the extreme. The first room offered us had a tiny window and smelt. We were offered another with a view of a brick wall. The second choice provided us with a view over the roof of the bar area. There are no coffee/tea facilities or slippers in the room, the storage space for clothes is inadequate and the WiFi more miss than hit. Furthermore, the loo directly faces the bed, two steps away from your feet. The door (such as it is) folds in on itself, so nothing is left to the imagination sound or vision-wise! The rooftop area has absolutely no shade and the pool was rather 'green'. When I brought these constructive observations to the attention of the staff, whilst apologetic and entirely pleasant, simply did not sort anything out, in fact they rather adroitly side-stepped the issues raised. One excuse for the lack of shade given was the fact that there could be no sunshades since the hotel is in a historical area. An interesting comment in the light of the fact that nearby venues have tasteful shades adorning their terraces. To make matters worse, when one did go up to the terrace for a breath of fresh air in the early evening, the maintenance staff appeared, sanding down the wooden tables & re-bedding the planters. Not conducive to some peaceful early evening relaxation.
The location is amazing and the architecture is very memorable, once you get used to such a different style of hotel it really grew on us. I would really recommend the hotel as long as guests understand what they are getting.
Just need to provide a few more 'creature comforts' such as better lighting in the rooms, more space for clothes, slippers etc...
The location was excellent. The service is excellent. We got an upgrade.
The room was not so confortable. A lot of light get´s in the room. The shower wasn´t working properly and it was impossible to control the water temperature.
great location.
my room was beside the stairs going up to the pool / rooftop. I could hear every step as the steps are made put of metal.
Support from Adalmina was amazing
Beautiful design and taste!
Very loud neigboorhood.
The architecture of the place was incredible
Superb
