- PHENOMENAL design! Perfect location super quiet even though it's along a main street.
- Onto is located in a modern and elegant building, which makes a very good first impression. The apartments are spacious, comfortable, and well equipped, and the rooftop garden offers a beautiful view, making it a genuinely pleasant place to stay.
- Onto Tonalá was very well-located in Roma Norte, within walking distance of many restaurants and cute streets in Roma and Condesa, and very close to both the Metro and a bus line. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable, with a sitting area, bedroom, and kitchen. Shower was spacious, water was nice and hot. Bed was comfortable. Staff was friendly and responsive — they have a What’s app-based concierge service, and responded immediately to questions and requests. There is a lovely roof garden with tables and a sitting area, with great views. We were on the top floor, facing Tonalá; while there is some city noise, the windows (which open!) were double paned, and we found it to be just fine, and generally quite peaceful. While there is an air unit, it does not provide heat; but at our request they provided a portable space heater, which was sufficient. They provided Nespresso pods for the espresso maker in the kitchen. There was lots of light from the tall windows, but also good blackout curtains so we could sleep well. When we initially booked, we were concerned about the fact that the hotel is on a busy street (Insurgentes), but the location turned out to be great, and the area very safe. There is someone at the front desk day and night, which made us very comfortable. We were very happy we chose to stay here.
Cons -
- The bed absolutely totally, completely SUCKS
- However, the service at reception did not always meet the standards one would expect given the quality of the building. Depending on the person on duty, the level of service ranged from helpful and friendly to very bare-minimum, creating noticeable inconsistency throughout the stay. There were also clear operational issues. The digital lock of apartment 10D was dysfunctional, making access to the room repeatedly difficult and unnecessarily stressful. In addition, the snacks provided at reception were often out of stock, which, while minor, reinforced the impression of uneven management. Finally, the checkout process was very poorly handled by Mr Mario. Having someone come to check the minibar in order to refund our deposit took an excessive amount of time, and we had to insist quite firmly for this to be done before leaving for the airport and finally they only managed to have one room checked and we had to leave without our deposit refund for the 2nd room. This created avoidable stress at the end of an otherwise comfortable stay.Overall, Onto has strong physical assets and real potential, but service consistency, maintenance, and checkout procedures need a lot of improvement to fully align with the quality suggested by the building , apartments and.... rates of course.
- There was a slight smell that wafted thru the air vent in the sitting room, which another reviewer described as a sewage odor. While we were concerned when we read that review, it did not turn out to be that big of an issue, and our friend who lives in Mexico City said this is not unusual in Mexico City apartments (especially bathrooms). The many good features of the place more than outweighed that small issue. Also, the construction of the building is such that there is an open stairwell in the hallway, which lets in city street noise that wafts thru the front door to the sitting room. We did not find it to be that big of an issue, especially when in the bedroom.

Well located, clean and friendly staff
A little noisy at night due to the location
The Onto Tonalá was in a perfect location in the Roma Norte. It was so easy to walk everywhere and we always felt safe when we were walking in the evening. The taco place across the street was friendly and the tacos delicious for a late night snack. Our room on the 4th floor was like living in a tree house with the birds singing in the morning and not having to close the blinds since the foliage was so thick. The warm croissants in the morning were terrific and the coffee delicious.
The maids were wonderful, the staff was great, but sometimes the night reception man could be curt. He must have felt that the nights were long because he never seen with a smile.
Breakfast pastries were variable, sometimes quite late for travelers to enjoy. No milk creamers in the individual rooms. Towels were few and quite old, torn up. I would recommend new towels and more than one hand towel and wash cloth in the room. Soap container in kitchen was broken but at least there was dish soap. Great, helpful and welcoming staff.
As above. Location was far from all the tourist sites and required Uber to get downtown and other areas of interest.
Very good location. Spacious and comfortable room.
Addition of a toilette in lobby lounge area would be useful.
The hotel was lovely. The staff was helpful and friendly. Our room was spacious and it was very nice having a separate sitting area and kitchen space. Location was good.
The only thing I didn't like was the bed was SUPER hard. If you like a firm bed then this is a great place for you. But for us it was extremely uncomfortable.
An exceptionally comfortable junior suite, comfortable large king bed, rather good noise insulation, well equipped kitchenette, nice sofa and seating area & large clean shower. The design is beautiful. The staff at the front desk are all extremely pleasant and helpful. Generous supply of coffee pods for the Nespresso machine. The rooftop coffee area has stunning views. The location of the hotel, on the border of Roma Norte: means you're within walking distance of hundreds of eateries and higher end restaurants.
1. Breakfast: Despite having informed the hotel ahead of lactose intolerance - there were zero breakfast options for us (or for anyone who is vegan). The continental breakfast items were all with butter or milk. This meant that throughout our 5 night stay we had to buy breakfast items from the nearby supermarket. If you end up using the kitchenette then note that Sumesa Colima is a far better supermarket than the one across the street. 2. The TV is in the bedroom area across from the bed, so if one sits in the sitting area while the other sleeps, the person in the sitting area cannot watch TV. That's rather useless.3. The only full length mirror is in the bathroom in a darkly lit area, please move it to the entrance area so one can use it better. 4. If you're extremely sensitive to noise then perhaps the forward facing rooms (facing Av. insurgentes) are too noisy for you.
The location was great! It’s very walkable to everything. The rooftop area has a great view. The room itself is aesthetic and nicely decorated. It was nice to have an AC in the room. The staff was amazing, everyone was so friendly!
The smell coming from the shower drain was absolutely terrible. It was so strong on day 3 we asked the front desk to come look at it and they sent someone up immediately. They ended up just spraying some stuff around and it didn’t fix anything at all. We messaged them the next day and asked to switch rooms but they never replied. We stuck it out but it was an awful smell that woke us up in the middle of the night even. I’m not sure if the hotel can do anything about the drains but that’s the only thing that really ruined the room for us. It’s hard to want to go be in your room , or even relax, or feel clean taking a shower, when the smell is so terrible you can hardly breathe.
Great location, very spacious room, very friendly staff
A bit noisy, mattress is quite hard
Great hotel with an ideal location in Roma Norte, a great coffee shop attached - and special shout out to Abraham who was extremely kind and helpful. We will absolutely come again.
very nice staff, giving me lots of advice on what to do in town. room was big and comfortable. rooftop is gorgeous but no bar service.good location, easy access with Uber.
Although the room was prepaid, They took a charge for potential expenses of 1500 MXN that should be reverted. This is not godo behaviour, better to ask me in the morning ig I got something from the mini-bar.
I had an amazing stay at this hotel! The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and everything was well organized. I’d like to give a special thanks to Abraham, who was incredibly helpful throughout my stay. He went above and beyond to assist us with our reservations and made sure everything went perfectly. Thanks to him, my trip to Mexico was truly unforgettable. Highly recommended! ??✨
The location was amazing and central to a lot of neighborhoods, restaurants and bars we wanted to visit. The style and design of the building and rooms were really nice and thoughtful. The staff is super nice and accommodating.
Some details and elements in the room didn’t feel very durable, for example the toilet paper holder was not secure and it kept falling. Some finishes were peeling or the shower tile was broken. Definitely minor things that didn’t greatly impact our stay.
It was a pretty hotel and for the most part the staff were nice and accommodating
I had a very bad experience when I returned to the hotel. I asked for an upgrade from the first floor and the receptionist told me that it’s not possible because I booked the only room available. I asked him to confirm because I was willing to pay for more to upgrade my room and he said it’s impossible. This is around 12:00 midnight and I’m exhausted. I said okay and took the only room allegedly available. When I walked it, it was completely dirty and not cleaned. Dishes in the sink, bed unmade, towels thrown around, etc. Then I had to walk back down and tell him about it. Surprisingly, he somehow found THREE rooms available for me to move into. That was so upsetting to find out I was lied to and treated in this manner. It was also worse given it’s midnight and I’m exhausted and have to go from room to room.
Big and beautiful rooms! The location is amazing close to everything. The workers are very nice and helpful and the room was very clean
The sheets & towels are to used. I will suggest changing them to new one. It wasn’t comfortable at night.
Clean, big rooms, nice staff
The towels were pretty old and gross The location is VERY loud. Very disappointed with this.. the stairwell is outdoors so there’s no way of blocking out the noise. Was very disappointed to be on the first floor.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Onto. The staff were very kind and helpful. The room was spacious and clean and had everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again!
Hotel is great, rooms are beautiful and big. It’s also worth mentioning that there is a microwave, and a little kitchenette in rooms if someone needs it. Staff is very helpful and welcoming. Location is absolutely phenomenal. We will be back.
It’s all about the details, which I believe are important at this price point. Wi-fi is weak and unstable, there was no way to connect our devices via HDMI with the TV. Rooms were cleaned regularly and very thoroughly but staff forgotten to replenish our toilet paper, so we had to ask for it. Otherwise, it’s a great hotel.
