    Cons -

    • Ventilator Noise in room
    • There was blood all over both of our pillows when we arrived. We had to get them changed. Also the sheets were dirty but it was too late of an arrival to do anything about it.
    • There was no hot water for the showers.

Staff in all interactions were polite, pleasant and helpful. Proximity to High Street.

Dirty, uncomfortable, obvious repairs/reconfiguration, much needed paintwork, basically a slapped together construct. There is a reason bookings are limited passport holders. New Zealanders would not put up with such shoddy accommodation.

Pretty cool place, I met a lot of nice people here, there's a kitchen with sufficient stoves and utensils and considering the amount of people coming and going, cleanliness is pretty good. Nobody stole my food. Staff is kind and helpful, too. Great location. Storage room available to leave your stuff after check out. Laundry available (paying). Sufficient toilets and showers (sometimes it takes time for hot water, but it was mostly fine for me). Guests can leave behind things they don't need in front of the reception desk, so that other guests can pick up what they need.

Not enough locker-boxes (in some dorm rooms only 1 every 2 beds). The common room is basically reception, so it closes when reception closes, too. Dorms are a bit messy, but that's because some guests leave their stuff scattered.

    Red Flag Raising.

MISSING PERSON ALERT:Something is not right with this place. I stayed a week. A female staying in the dorm I was in did not return for nearly two days, leaving all her belongs on the bed. She left with only a small day bag before lunch. After about 30 hours I mentioned to the staff that she had not returned and perhaps could they call her to ensure her safety. The said don’t worry about it. I went to the police and notified them that she hadn’t been seen for more than 24hr (normal procedure in NZ). She did return at 3am the next day, 40+ hours later. After a my week was up I left and later returned two weeks later only to find I was refused entry because I had called the Police, according to staff. This raises a further Red Flag after the initial “Don’t Worry” comment thrown at me in the first instance. It seems that staff and management have something to hide at this place. They seem not to care about the safety of their guests and they don’t want the Police involved in anything for some reason.

There was an amazing view out the window of the sky tower! It was very central.

The facilities were a bit gross- the kitchen was cluttered and none of the bathroom sinks drained because they were full of food items. There was also no warm/hot water in the showers.

I made my own breakfast.. Plenty of places to buy breakfasts or to buy groceries. All quests used the kitchen so a great place to make friends and get information from other guests

I found it hard to get a shower, as a few more showers would have been better.

    6LukasPosted on: 11-25-2025

Good location and it was cheap. Nice staff as well.

Only cold showers, below average dirty hygiene facilities even for this price.

The room was a good size for a single person, was able to lay out all my belongings everywhere without being cramped at all. There was a problem with the lighting which I experienced several times on the first night I was there) and it was fixed the next day (or at least the problem never recurred)

The bed was too short for me, and I'm only of average height (180cm). Was comfortable though and it was fine when curled up a bit. The street environment was quite noisy, but this is to be expected when you're in a busy part of the city. The walls must be quite thin, and the windows were a little drafty which was letting noise in as well. And windows probably aren't double-glazed either. No noise from within the backpackers though, which is appreciated.

This location is great for being close to everything, including Countdown and fast food options.

Shorten the front decks to create more inviting seating and work spaces. The closest beach is Dove Myer Robinson Park (Parnell Rose Garden), Hamilton Rd Beach, Ponsonby—where beauty awaits and memories are made. You will love these beaches.

Location is nice and at the center. Everything is accessible

The blanket I got have a lot of wool like pet fur or something! Im mostly wearing black and till now its all over my clothes. I used their laundry and dryer and all my clothes got the fur also its hard to remove and I already used 2 rolls of lint roller

    2MyrzakerovaPosted on: 9-5-2025

Very dirty everywhere. I witnessed the way staff was cleaning the bathroom and it was terrible. They used one towel to wipe toilets, showers, and sinks without washing it in between. In the dorms, there is no curtains for a bit of privacy. Kitchen is terribly dirty too. There’s no clarity on dorm types when you are booking. It doesn’t state if the dorm is mixed, male or female. So if you’re unlucky, you can be put in the room with 9 people of other gender than yours and it’s uncomfortable.

    Location

It was always too cold, one thin blanket only, the showers didn’t stay hot or with a proper water stream, smelt like burnt food, squeaky bunks, zero space in the kitchen for food

    2NancyPosted on: 6-1-2025

The location is great, right in the heart of CBD

The hostel itself is old and in pretty bad stage. Also quite dirty. I rented a private room for a night and the room smelled like dirty socks and the bed was really uncomfortable (you could feel the metal) I would have asked for a refund but I came back at around 10:30 pm and reception was closed so I dropped the key and left right after. DO NOT STAY HERE!

First of all,the location is very good. We can walk to stops, library, art gallery, sea and so on.And then, extanding stay is flexible. I could extend my stay another 2 days the day before check out.Finaly, the price is super cheap. I could

Probably the toilet drain is next to the bed so there's a flushing sound every time someone flushes the toilet.

Location and nice views from Sky Tower.

They asked for a passport and a debit card for check-in and only told us about it on the same day. They wouldn’t accept a valid New Zealand driver’s license either. At check-in, we had to sign a paper basically saying they’re not responsible if anything gets stolen. When we got to our private room, the door had clearly been broken into and badly fixed. The whole place was dirty—the floor in our room hadn’t been cleaned, and the kitchen was so gross it was impossible to cook anything. The power outlet in the room was broken, as one leg of the bed which was just hidden underneath. We felt super unsafe and honestly worried about leaving our stuff in the room or coming back to find the door broken again.Even though it’s cheap, we really don’t recommend this place. It’s just not worth it.

    2LucasPosted on: 4-7-2025

I have a real question, why you to sigh irritably when we put key in the box for the check out, just because you need to stand up ?The shower need 5min for the beginning of hot water and in bathroom the panel said don’t take shower over 4min … the showerhead is like garden hose But the emplacement is good

    5MartinaPosted on: 4-6-2025

It was acceptable for 1 night. But the ladies shower on the second floor has no warm water. Wouldnt stay for longer period of time.
