    Pros +

    • Very stylish place, the staff was nice and welcoming and at night the hostel was quiet and everyone was respectful.
    • Very cute looking. Cozy if you actually wanted to check out the book selection.
    • Super vibey spot, cool to sleep in a bookshelf and be surrounded by books. Great location & good coffee in the cafe.

    Cons -

    • The cabins were too hot and it felt like you could barely breathe. The washrooms were not very clean and we were responsible for putting the bed together and cleaning the washroom floor after use. Terrible space for any couples travelling - not enough space regardless of double bunk.
    • Mattress is fairly thin and not super comfortable for prolonged use. Also, all the men's bidets were non-functional, kind of an issue when all you get is single ply. Front desk staff was ok, some were pretty unfriendly while others were more helpful - probably wouldn't go back unless it's for a brief stay.
    • It would be have helpful to know that the location was on the 8th floor; it was a little difficult to find the location on our first night in town.

    Strategically located in Shinjuku

Check in time too late (4 PM), and we have to wait outside the building. Not allowed to wait in the reception area

The concept is nice. The shower was warm and water flow was good. Location maybe good for some but personally I didn’t like shinjuku.

Bathroom wasn’t working, needed cleaning, very basic amenities. Staff was nice but seemed unavailable. We don’t know how to check out because no staff there.

Our entire group stayed at Book and Bed for the first part of our stay in Japan. It was in the perfect location for sightseeing, close to the station, and walkable restaurant/bar/convenience store options everywhere. Would stay again.

location was central and near to everything, its book-themed set-up is quite unique and adds value to the usual hostel environment

In the heart of Kabukicho also known as the red light district. A 15 minute walk from Shinjuku station. Many restaurants and shops within the vicinity. The accommodation is a very calm place to stay, with a variety of books to read for free. A good place if you are looking for a short stay. Easy to make friends with other travellers since everyone comes and go everyday.

You get what you pay for. The capsule itself was small with very thin walls so you could definitely hear everything and hard to move around. The mattress was okay and pillow being very thin with some sort of plastic under which caused me to sleep with my neck pillow on top. There was very minimal air coming in the capsule which was hard to breathe in while sleeping, definite hazard. The cleanliness in the capsule was fair.

Looks amazing with all of the books and decorations in the common area

The ladders were too close to the wall and I had trouble climbing into my pod

    8Hardik B.Posted on: 10-10-2025

    Clean, tidy, good service

    8ScottPosted on: 9-26-2025

I liked the books and the atmosphere.

Too busy and crowded of a neighborhood.

    • 2 mins walk from the bus terminal coming from Haneda Airport (45 min ride)• If you young, loves books, loves college dorm type vibe, perfect for you• If you like the night life, there's a lot of after dark spots• Pretty diverse crowd around the area• Great for backpacker vibes

    • I think there's a club/bar/restobar upstairs, I can hear the footsteps, or staff moving stuff around, so little bit hard to sleep• The person beside my bunk was snoring, so if you light sleeper it will be a bit challenging (they do have earplugs, helps a bit, i used noise cancelling headphones)• You gotta set up your own bed, they just provide the bedsheets• You might hear other people's alarm go off, and it doesn't wake them up (or worse if they snooze)• If you in top bunk, it's a bit more challenging to come up/come down with your stuff• You don't have privacy with your luggage, or you can go to a corner to unpack

In the midnight, it was very quiet. Thus I was able to sleep well.

Toilets and bathrooms were not be cleaned enough.

Right beside Kabukicho towerFast lift With so many books around and various lounge and seating area, it really puts you in the mood to read/workGood place to chill out at night surprisingly at the heart of kabukicho

You have to set up your bedFor top capsules, the ceiling is separated by a layer of cloth. That cloth can be very dusty

The look of the place was great. Glad I upgraded to the bigger room. I wish I could have taken advantage of the amenities of the place

    Tiny spiders.

Sleeping with a bunch of books is a vibe! The room is very spacious. Luggage storage is convenient. The common area is a great place to hang out.

There was a family of five with three kids, including a baby, while I stayed, so there was no age policy. It can be challenging if you're looking for peace. ? is located in Kabukicho (歌舞伎町), which is fine for me for a few days and could make for a fun experience, but not for those looking for less "exciting" surroundings.
