The location is ideal and very nicely placed in a quiet neighborhood although only a few hundred meters is the train station. The room is bigger than other rooms in Japan. It is a traditional japanese room design.
It’s good to experience Japanese style. It’s clean and very near to metro. Quite place and the staffs were polite and kind and helpful
The location was great, conveniently in Shinjuku. Not far from a busy street, yet still quiet. Staff were friendly
Our tatami were stained, and there was no light in the toilet room, as well as no handsoap provided.
The location is excellent, with many options around and easy access to the metro line. The area is completely safe, as most of central Tokyo city. Also very convenient and nice to walk to Shinjuku. The people running the hotel are great, very willing to help with anything. The rooms are clean, spacious and well equipped! It made our stay in Tokyo so much better and easy.
It was a lovely Japanese-style room and the staff were excellent and very accommodating with our luggage storage requests. The location was great—just a 4-minute walk from Shin-Okubo Station and about 10 minutes from Shinjuku Station.
It is an old property with some wear and tear, but that did not really bother us.
Location was only a few minutes off the main street from the train station but far enough that you couldn't hear much or any noise. The beds where traditional futon which we where used to so it was more comfortable for us than most hotel beds.
Staff was friendly and the location is pretty convenient. It was easy to navigate.
There was a strange smell in the room that stirred up my allergies and couldn't even be covered by the air freshener which made it difficult to fall asleep.
Excellent location, less than 5 minute walk to shin okubo station and yamanote line. Convenient stores and supermarkets are anywhere around the hotel. As a muslim traveller it is very easy to find muslim-friendly food or even eateries near the hotel.Staff is helpful though some cannot speak english.
No elevator to access rooms upstairs, while the stairs are rather steep and narrow. Bed is old and need replacement
The location of this hotel was down a side street so very quiet and SUPER easy to access public transportation. Many restaurants, grocery and convenience stores nearby. We did not lack for anything. The room, altho oddly set up, had space and we were comfortable enough. The owner speaks great English and was very helpful. We dropped off our bags earlier in the morning and they were in our room when we checked in later that afternoon. That was very kind of them. They also offered to help us with our bags on our departure.
Let me start this review by stating that we are very simple people, we don't need much from a hotel room. We want comfort and cleaniness and that pretty much completes our expectations. This room was clean, just run-down. There are a lot of simple fixes the owners can do to bring up the "feel" of the room i.e. patched holes in the walls/ceilings that could be done better and pretty easy to do. Wallpaper lifting at the corners, either paste it down again or relpace...again, very easy to do. Like I said, the room was clean and that's what mattered to us, but the "feel" of the room is run-down because of the examples I gave. The futons that we slept on are at the end of their lifespan. We slept on futons at another location and slept really well, but we could feel the lack of support in the futons at this hotel.
The location was excellent, close to restaurants and the subway. The bed was comfortable and it was fun to sleep on the floor.
The walls were a little thin. Luckily the other guests were mostly quiet.
location near station. lots of food and cafes, very close to Donky and local supermarket staffs are nice and helpful
the building is too old stayed in the first floor that has window but if we open the window we can smell people are smoking in front of the hotel
Very spacious room with a unique traditional layout. Incredibly good value, and close to Okubo station so easy to get around.
Very lovely staff. Great location!! Nice big shower/bathroom.
The location is good
The room stinks!!! It smelled like molded tatami mixed with dusty air condition pipe. It's also in such a old building and doesn't feel clean at all. In addition, I've paid way more than I should. My booking was early so it suppose to be cheaper but then the price went down so much and I've over paid at least half of it. So disappointing.
The staff here were very friendly and helpful. Great location if you want to explore central Tokyo - very close to Shin-Okubo station.
Room was smaller than it appeared in pictures - a bit tight for a family of three, with low thresholds for anyone over 5'10" (177cm) or so. Room was generally clean but could really use some repairs / replacements.
I lived the tatami room and the bed
10am check out is too early
Loved the traditional tatami style, the kindness and availability of the staff and the location. You’re literally 4 mins away from the JR station and if you’re traveling with big luggages it’s really convenient. The area is also great, you’ve got everything you need: restaurants, convinient stores etc. I would def recommend you to come here!

Important info
Children 6 year old and over are charged the same rates as adults. Directions from JR Shin-Okubo Station: - At the exit of the station, turn left into Okubo-dori street, and walk for about 328 feet. - At the corner of the super market next to Tokyo Plaza Hotel, turn right. - Walk straight on for about 262 feet, until you see the Shin Okubo Sekitei on the right side of the street. -- The property looks out on a narrow side-street, which branches off from the main street. This side-street might be a bit hard to find for a first-time guest. We strongly recommend printing out the map or the pictures in this page in advance.
