    • Near station
    • Well, to be quite honest, I had no idea we were checking into a ryoken. It was really a lovely surprise and it gave my daughter the culture experience she was looking for on this trip. I was surprised at how comfortable the futons were. We flew down to Fukuoka and when we headed back to Tokyo, we checked to see if we could get back in, but it was full. Darn!
    • Nice Japanese style room with futon. Great amenities (full kitchen with stove top etc.), location, and price.

    Cons -

    • Toilet is so narrow
    • The host was very "unsmiling." He helped us with our booking problem, but he didn't seem especially happy about it. Made me feel like an unwelcome American. :-(
    • The futon was a bit thin, but maybe I'm a bit too boney...

It’s location is very close to the Shin Okubo train station with easy access to major areas like Shinjuku and Shibuya. Lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance. The price is very economical for a family of 5.

Front desk staff seems to be just doing the basic job of checking in. Not very friendly or patient in explaining how to use the key for the shoe locker. When we checked in at around 5:30pm we got a 5th floor room, the room was burning hot. The hotel did not get the room ready to be at least a decent comfort level. The AC took a long time to cool off to a comfortable temperature. The 5th floor Hallways were unbearably hot for the duration of the stay. Only the lobby on first floor was cool. Looks like a staff came into the room to change towels but trash was not throw away after the first night. Bathroom slipper has black dirt and brown gross residue on shower head rest. The price is inexpensive compared to other hotels in the area but it should be called a hostel for the type of room and facilities, not a hotel.

The location of the hotel is great as it's near the station + it's near so much establishments that close later into the night. Shin-Okubo is just one train transfer from Nippori station if you took the Skyliner. They offer luggage storage (at an amazing price) which was amazing for us as we took a short trip to Hakone before returning to Tokyo. The room that we booked was perfect for 4 adults, we were able to sleep comfortable in the futons.

Nothing to take note of that's so negative. You do have to remove your shoes before entering the Hotel and keep them at lockers by the front desk. You do need to close and move your luggage before you sleep since you need to lay down your futon in the tatami area. They don't have the Japanese toilet system, which they do show in their photos.I believe there are limited sockets in the room (enough to charge 1 device per person for 4 pax), so it's best to have your extension cord with you if you need to charge more gadgets.

Very convenient location and very nice staff

We were not very comfortable with the Japanese style bedding but it was not there problem. We chose to experience it once.

Great Location - we only stayed for the one night and did not check in till 8pm, which was no problem. There was a total of 6 of us, 4 boys (21 years old) loved that there was this massive TV screen, they all laid out on the tatami mats to chill and watch Anime, so they were in bliss haha. Also loved that the main 'strip' was a 5 min walk so we were able to grab some food, loads of eateries, 7 Eleven, Family Mart, Lawson and Don Quijote.x2 Air Conditioners in Room, warmed up the room quick smart. You need to take your shoes off and put them in a locker before you enter the foyer.Need to mention that the hotel is down a side street, and if you are arriving at night, no need to be worried, as it is safe :)

If I really had to pick, it would be the toilet and the bathroom, they are quite small, but that's it.

It’s a good accommodation for relatively low budget. The location is a little off the Main Street but provides easy access to a train station of the Yamanote line.

    8JamesPosted on: 12-1-2024

The staff were friendly. The room was clean. The location was perfect. It was perfect for just me to stay.

The futon mattresses were not comfortable but I doubled up then it was ok.

I liked the tatami floor and having my own bathroom.

Some of the other guests were very noisy

    10VènkoPosted on: 11-4-2024

Sleeping on a tatami is a fun experience! The location is nice also, very close to two metro lines and the korean neighborhood. Also, a walking distance to kabuchiko. The area is full of places for food.

    8MichaelPosted on: 10-29-2024

Easy to get to Shinjuku and all attractions.

I like futons, but I had been in a futon from other places for 3 weeks and would have liked a bed, but but but. We are in Japan

    9HoonPosted on: 10-23-2024

Location was convenience. Near jr line. 7 eleven also nearby. A few restaurant also a don don dongie.

Only the bathroom and toilet is small , but usually in Tokyo is normal.

The only thing I liked about this place was that it was near the JR station, and with the few interactions I had with the staff, they were always positive.

Except for its location, the place was awful, and compared to the sample photos on Booking, my room was completely different. I was really looking forward to sleeping for the first time in a Japanese-style bedroom, but this place did not meet my expectations at all. It wasn't so clean, full of dust around, spots on the futons (one with a big red spot on it), and small holes on the walls and hair everywhere, inside the futons and in the bathroom too. The water came out of the bathroom pipe and was soaking everywhere on the ground. I really "liked" the irony placed on the business card where the best hotel in Japan was written, perhaps for those who are looking for that motel style often seen in movies where someone is killed. Another thing I didn't like at all, not being a smoker and hating secondhand smoke, is that they put a no-smoking ban in the room, but I don't know how from the ventilation system there was a constant lingering smell of cigarette smoke coming out that made it impossible to be able to use the bathroom without smelling like smoke and inhaling it.

superb location near to train station and amenities.

the futon a bit thin and room small for family of 4 person

    high pay rental

    7ThiamPosted on: 6-2-2024

The small kitchen with all the cutlery and the smart TV.

The toilet and shower space is too small and the toilet bowl is not upgraded to provide comfort.

    6DamienPosted on: 5-26-2024

Cheap and in shinjuku- super convenient to nearby metro on a major line. Sleeps 4 people. It was clean and quiet.

It was a little too barebones. The shower drain didn't drain very well and took a while. Needed 2 futons because one was a little thin.
