    • For my first trip to Japan this was an excellent place to onboard and get familiar with the culture and social norms. The staff was excellent in showing us new foods and what to expect, and having a map with the local food spots. The number 1 udon shop close by was amazing and we even went back again before we left. The onsen was also a great experience. It was easier to get over the shyness here and getting used to the process before our next hotel which was much larger.
    • Very clean and good location. Friendly staff.
    • There was a public bath, coin laundry, and a massage chair

    Cons -

    • Nothing. Would visit again!
    • Room was too small for a couple with a child.Almost no place to put the luggage and the clothes.Japanese style room was not for me, it is like almost sleeping on the floor.
    • The train line to the closest station (Ochanomizu station) sometimes finishes earlier around 10-11, so you have to get off somewhere else and walk 20-30minutes if it gets late.

I loved the stay in this hotel, all the staff were so nice and polite. They provided us great service, when we did early check-in they moved our luggages to our room for us. The rooms are really cute, it was a comfortable Japanese ryokan-style room. I loved the experience of the spa and included breakfast, if you want to experience a real authentic stay definitely recommend!

The location and most of all the care and attention extended by Mr. Tanaka, the only one who spoke English there and who had responded with patience everytime I wrote to him with questions. He also went out of his way to acquaint me with the hotel neighbourhood.

The staff at the reception, the men, were a disaster. I was dismissed while trying to explain my booking for my return stay by a fierce-browed man at the reception with a 'I'm sorry but we are busy' When they were not! Told them I had never known ANY country where a hotel I was staying in said that. His rudeness was simply shocking. That apart, their incompetence was startling: when I checked in late at night, dead tired after my long flight, I was asked to pay for the entire stay immediately which I gladly did, but they took AGES to make out the cash receipt. Which meant I was kept waiting for a while, late at night. Anything but welcoming! Any cab driver at home would need just 2 minutes to make out a receipt. That apart, the room was DISTRESSINGLY small, with no cupboard or draws to unpack my things. It was just marginally larger than our dog's kennel at home! What's more, I was told that for the second leg of my stay they can only offer me a room that's smaller! It was beyond me to imagine a room that was EVEN smaller. It's incredible, and clearly indifferent to the guest's well-being and comfort, that they think anyone, that too a tall person, can squeeze into a cell-like room. After the man at the reception displayed the rudeness that he did, I had to cancel my reservation there and book elsewhere for the rest of my stay.

Fantastic staff and in a great location, easy access to the local area and the Tokyo metro/JR rail network. Rooms while small are very comfortable and the staff can provide additional sleeping mats if needed. Traditional Japanese breakfast was delicious. Thank you for a great stay!

Lovely staff, great location and facilities. We stayed in Japanese rooms and it was nice and comfortable

Loved staying in a traditional Japanese. Loved the hot bath before bed. Appreciated the free umbrellas due to the heavy rain. Enjoyed traditional breakfast.

    Triple room very small.

We only stayed for one night and didn't have breakfast or use the onsen, so the review is purely about the room. The staff is very nice and polite. Our room was perfectly clean and the futons were the most comfortable ones we've slept on during our trip to japan.

We felt like our room was a little small for three people, with the three futons on the floors there was not much room left for luggage etc. So for a longer stay, we'd book two rooms for our group of three.

I really enjoyed the public bath and the Japanese breakfast. They're located on a quiet side street but it's just a few block walk to multiple train stations and many restaurants. The staff was excellent, very polite and quick to respond to any and all requests. The cafe has an excellent sound system and plays jazz in the afternoons and evenings, a great place to spend an hour or two listening to jazz greats like Miles Davis and John Coltrane.

I wasn't a fan of the futon bed and next time will choose the western style bed.

    Nice staff, great location.

Not used to futon, will book a book next time.

Public bath and lounge area with massage chairs, vending machines, and some books in the basement level.Friendly staff who even offered us free gifts during checkout.Complimentary delicious Japanese cuisine for breakfast. Tamago kake gohan, or TKG for short, was the best.

Room was too small for packing things into our luggages. Perhaps 2 people is the ideal max for the room we booked.Instead of using key cards, only ONE physical key was given for unlocking the room door.

From the moment we walked in we felt the exceptional and warm hospitality of the entire team at Ochanomizu. The team went above and beyond to accomodate requests, with their communication and to create an environment that was extremely welcoming and comfortable. The breakfast, in room bathing facilities and location were all excellent, and we really appreciated the massage chairs after long days of exploring. We have been to Tokyo a number of times and Ochanomizu has been our favourite place to stay, it felt like a home away from home. If your are looking for a more traditional and intimate place to stay, in a quieter area, this is perfect!Thank you to all the team for their round the clock service, friendliness and gifts. We can’t wait to come back (:

We stayed in 6 different hotels during this trip and this hotel was probably our favourite place to stay. The room was very comfortable - good size and comfortable bed. The staff were very friendly and so helpful when we ordering a taxi. They also gave us a present each as we left. There was also a complimentary breakfast which was very nice. Unfortunately we did not use the public baths as have tattoos but we used the massage chairs in the basement floor and they were amazing! The location of this hotel is also within walking distance to Ochanomizu station and the famous bridge from the Suzume no Tojimari movie (just in case you're interested!)

    Nothing we didn't like!

We had a really good time at the Ryokan and I personally would recommend it to everyone else who would like to have a traditional japanese stayover during their holiday. The staff was super nice during our stay and really helpful regarding questions. It was our first time experiencing sleeping in a futon, which definitely is something you have to get used to :'D But it was a nice try! Our room was really clean and also very cozy, if you'd ask me. The location itself is really good, not at any hot spot area, but it doesn't take long to go to the busy districts. Akihabara is only 20mins walk from there and Ginza just around the corner. You'll fine plenty of restaurants nearby and also the cobini. The breakfast was also very yummy, very traditional with rice, side dishes and Miso soup. We all enjoyed it quite a lot and were quite sad leaving. Would come back, for sure!

    Actually, there is nothing.

Friendly, patient, and helpful staff were the standout. Quiet location close to metro. Washing machine. Breakfast was served in the Jazz bar; perfect for the Jazz fan.

The noise from the refrigerator, but I unplugged it and that helped. I am quite a light sleeper.

Super friendly and helpful staff, very polite and amazing customer service, reasonably basic traditional style room, but quite spacious for Tokyo (I believe) and lovely shower

We had a smoker's room despite not being smokers and there was a very slight smell of stale smoke, but they did say that they would deodorize the room as much as possible

    9MarcPosted on: 8-8-2023

Good breakfast Japanese style. Pleasant staff, easy to get to by metro. Quiet neighborhood. Onsen was nice to have after a long day of walking.

The rooms are quite outdated but functional.
