The location was great. Close to restaurants and convenient stores. It is in a quiet neighborhood and in a walking distance to Ueno station. Very convenient. The room was clean. Staffs were very polite and helpful. There was an incident that lost my passport and I suspected that I probably forgot my passport with a shop in Shibuya and it was around 8 pm and I asked the front desk staff for help to call and check whether my passport was there or not. He called and talked to the shop and arranged for me to pickup the next day. Thank you for your help. Highly recommend.
Nothing i can think of.
Location was solid not far from Ueno station. Check in and check out was super fast and the staff was friendly. It was only a one night stay but it was perfect.
Clean and good location
Small room
Great location, comfy beds
Room was a tad small
Well located near Ueno stations - JR, Tokyo Metro, and Keisei lines. The Keisei Skyliner was accessible by taking the escalators up to a pedestrian overpass which were a short walk from the hotel entrance (said escalator was also very clutch for accessing Tokyo Metro Ginza line and JR lines). Just needed to navigated to some stairs down to the underground walkway but it was better than rolling luggage on the streets. Hotel has an aged look in the lobby, elevator and hallways, but it was pleasantly charming. Rooms were completely up-to-date, however, and with all the best amenities. The room was quite roomy even for a couple travelling lightly with a carry-on luggage, a backpack, and a duffle each. There is laundry but only 1 washer and dryer. I think washer was 300 yen and dryer 100 yen per 10 minutes. Filtered water and microwave available in the lobby. Grateful to the hotel staff for storing our luggage briefly after check out so that we could get some last minute shopping in before our journey to Narita airport.
Liked everything! Maybe could have done with another pillow, but front desk would likely have obliged request if we had asked. I had a blowup pillow handy so no need to burden the front desk. :)
Location could not be better, super close to Ueno Station and the pedestrian bridges over the roads. Great food options across the street and a convenience store around the corner. Incredibly friendly staff! Rooms were nice and clean with windows that opened, beds were comfortable.
Air freshener in the room smelled nice but left its smell on all our clothing. I'm sensitive to smells and it didn't give me a headache or anything but wanted to mention it for those that are more sensitive. Laundry facilities are outside behind the front desk, coin operated, and basically in a little alley nook off the street next to the smoking area. Not convenient but at least something is available. I ended up washing a few things in the room's tub instead.
As the name implies, this hotel is in Ueno. It is only a few minutes walk from the station and Ueno park, so would be a very good base for a trip to Tokyo. The rooms are small but well arranged and everything you need is available. There is a good restaurant across the road and plenty of konbini nearby.
No problems
Very courteous and welcoming staff. Rooms were clean, comfortable and had what you needed. Location was excellent- only a few blocks from the train station and all pedestrian friendly access.
Ueno Touganeya Hotel is the perfect no frills, small room, great staff lodging for those who want to be five minutes from the major Ueno train station and about 10 minutes from amazing Ueno Park's 130-plus acres of world class museums, shrines/temples, lake, Tokyo Zoo, festivals and cherry blossom trees in spring/golden trees in fall. The building is very nondescript and there is zero food. The lobby is warm and the staff is outstanding. There is a small microwave for shared use (none in rooms, but a very tiny fridge is in each room) and a purified water dispenser for filling your bottles.I did not use the onsite laundry, but that is a good amenity. There are a few freebies, such as coffee and tea packets plus tiny travel razors/tooth brushes in the lobby. The rooms are tiny, but quiet. The pressure and warmth in the shower was fine and the AC worked well. The bed was comfy and the small desk and drawers were very efficient. Perhaps the rooms and hallways could use a slight makeover, but then again the price was just a bit more than $100 USD per night including taxes.Luggage storage was good while I waited for check-in.The front desk staff is very good with English and it was also outstanding at responding to my emailed requests and questions. I had a request about room location (for my return, 4-day stay after my original 3-day visit) and they were super accommodating. There is a Lawson 24 hour konbini footsteps away. Ueno station has a gourmet grocery. And there are tons of mom and pop restaurants withing walking distance. The vibrant Ameyoko shopping street is about 10 minutes away. There is some really great street food, sit down spots and discount shopping in the always crowded, noisy strip.Thankfully, Ameyoko is on the other side of the huge train station, so none of its raucousness disturbs guests at Touganeya Hotel.
During my first stay, I could hear a lot of noise from the floor above. Asking for a room on the top (6th) floor upon my return solved that issue. The building is ugly and one of the few in Tokyo with graffiti marks. The rooms could use a makeover. They are a bit drab. With them being so small -- about 100 SF -- they could stand to be modernized. There is one elevator, so there could be a wait to get up to your room if the property is fully occupied. It would be nice to have some small breakfast offering -- just some coffee and rolls, so you could get some food on your belly before venturing out for a long day of exploring.
Location was great, convenient to Ueno Station
beds were hard and only got one pillow
Good location, an older building with new paint basically, they spent a lot on the lobby to make it look nicer. The rooms are older, but the bed was super comfy TBH. The bathroom step up (like most Japanese bathrooms) is like a foot high, just FYI. Small business hotel, would stay here again, very good value, lots of places to eat in the area. The staff were super helpful and nice and spoke English.
Nothing negative, just an older hotel, but everything was fine, clean, quiet. Bed was comfy. It's an older building with a facelift.
The check-in process was quick, and the hotel provided sleeping yukata.
We stayed less than 10 hours - a single night. To turn on lights/AC in the rooms, you need to leave the key fob inserted, which means it gets hot (or cold) in the room when you aren't there. When the blowers turned on it smelled musty, and got worse the longer we stayed. I got a sore throat and stuffed nose from sleeping there, and my partner was unable to sleep. In the morning we went to the front desk to check-out/cancel the next two nights, and they never confirmed the checkout. It looks as if we stayed 3 nights, And Booking has also been unable to contact them to confirm the cancelled stay. Very frustrating.
The location is excellent! You basically can find anything within a walking distance. The room is small but still comfortable, you'll get basic things you need. A cheap tiny supermarket within 2 minutes walk (apart from convenient stores near by)
You will not get bottled-water in your room. Anyway the hotel has provided you mineral water at the lobby, you will need to bring your own container which is a little inconvenient but still OK. :)
Clean room, very close to Ueno Station
Not room in the bathroom for both of us at the same time.
Great spot close the train station and the park - lots to do, lots to see, lots to eat! The room was very compact but had everything we needed.
The staff were helpful, the location was great being very close to JR Ueno station. The bed was comfortable. The room was very clean and the wifi was fast.
The rooms are on the smaller side but it is not unique for this hotel. Also if you have a large suitcase or more than one then this may not be for you. The window was very small and I was assigned a room with very little natural sunlight since it was facing the alley behind the hotel. Overall if you don’t mind the small size, lack of space for luggage and don’t mind getting assigned a room with literally almost no sunlight then go for it..
Great access to Ueno train station and subway. Great price and close to Ueno park.
The room was small
