    Pros +

    • Clean, Good Location, Spacious
    • Super clean and comfortable! Breakfast amazing though the variety of tea was very limited!! Coffee was delicious as was the food!! Staff nice but their English not so good which would have been useful for us but of course we understand that we should have been the ones trying to comunicate in the local language.
    • A wonderful hotel worth your money. We initially did not plan to stay there, we booked another hotel in the area, but a week before we checked in, they wrote to us that the hotel was closing and we had to urgently look for new accommodation. The area was important, and since the check in was on the first of January, when there are public holidays in China, there were not many options.According to the reviews, we found out that the king rooms may not have windows, we contacted the hotel and they confirmed this information. That's why we decided to book a suite room, there are definitely windows there)Among the advantages: the hotel, if not new, is in excellent condition, a nice area around that is pleasant to walk around, a great lobby where you can sit and drink tea/coffee absolutely free of charge 24 hours, a very very good breakfast, free laundry- 3 washing machines and 3 dryers. This is important if you are traveling with children or if you are a fan of running. Our daughter is 2.5 years old - there was always something for her to take for breakfast (porridge, sausages, pastries), my husband runs, so there were no problems with sportswear). On the downside: it's a stretch to say that the hotel is a little away from the main areas of restaurants and shops and the metro (a maximum of 10 minutes walk). It wasn't a problem for us. We like to walk a lot, so we didn't notice. There are girls at the reception who speak English, although this is not required in China) if something is unclear, everyone takes out their phones with a translator and everything falls into place. All the staff is very polite and pleasant.

    Cons -

    • Location was not so centric but with Didi we got everywhere!!
    • Tiny rooms. Lobby has cigarette smell. Hotel allows ppl to smoke right in front of the lobby door so smoke gets into lobby which is a nuisance. Reception didn’t inform me that my room didn’t have heating upon check in! It was below freezing that night. Manager later waived my first night stay for a 12 night stay total but totally unacceptable for a holiday inn brand hotel to not have heating AND not say anything about it to guests checking in. Very shady business practice and speaks volume on poor management of hotel. Also my bathroom didn’t have fan (or if it did it didn’t work). Hotel provided space heater and had central heating on/off. Very very weird and shady practice IMO. Overall I would not recommend this holiday inn nor would stay here again. Also the gym is sad and lacking. Not worth the price charged IMO. I rather spend $200 USD a night and get legit 4 star comforts OR pay half the price for cheaper hotel with better value. There are a ton of hotels in Shanghai. Would not stay here again.
    • The sink in the room was a little weird, and the breakfast buffet could be bigger!

Close to jing an and Zhang yuan with good food options etc. bed and bedding was comfy and clean. Blackout curtains. Good breakfast selection and decent coffee. Free automatic laundry is a nice touch. Staff was overall friendly and helpful but overall management of facility and comforts need work.

Breakfast was small but fresh and nice. The design of the rooms is very modern and kept very clean.

The sink in the room was a little weird, and the breakfast buffet could be bigger!

    Good location

The first time we stayed at this location, there was a live cockroach in our room. The staff were understanding and moved us to a different room. That made us decide to give this location another shot. Unfortunately, this time around, we were put on the second floor, right by the laundry room. There was considerable noise seeping into our room in the middle of the night (between 2 to 4 a.m) , from the tumble dryer spinning, the music of the machine constantly going off, signaling the end of a cycle and ppl chatting as they took their laundry. I recorded a video of the noise, unfortunately I cannot post that video on the review, but it was a nuisance and ruined our night.

    Comfort, cleanliness, breakfast

The staff doesn’t speak English well. They wrote unclearly the number of the room (6 as 8), and it was difficult to sort it out because of the language barrier

The location was good. The room was spacious and clean. The staff were excellent!

    Nothing really.

Breakfast was incredible - probably the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had. The amenities functioned well and staff were always cleaning (frequently saw them cleaning the gym, laundry machines and coffee machines).

Didn’t like the air freshener they were using so we put it in a drawer and it was fine

Staff very friendly. The breakfast was very good.

Water pipes make a big sound. Woke me up several time.

Sink in the room, not in the bathroom.

    Great/ friendly staff

We found a cockroach in our bedroom. We spoke to the front desk, they were shocked and they upgraded us.

This place exceeded my expectation, eventhough it's not right on Nanjing xilu, it's only 10 minute walk, or 5 minute cycling to get to Jing an temple. The hotel is really clean and comfortable, the lobby is modern, the staff speaks English well and very helpful.

I wish this hotel is located right on Nanjingxilu, but this is not an issue!
