Pros +
- Location! It?s in walking distance to Nanjing Rd pedestrian street and the subway station. The staff were friendly and very helpful. I was upgraded to a suite without additional charge, which was very nice!
- Great location, and for a Chinese run hotel very nice.
- Clean. Spacious. Great location. Staff generally helpful.
Cons -
- The restaurant was very expensive. If it could offer reasonable prices, it would attract much more patronage.
- The breakfast buffet is slim and too expensive if not included in the price.
- Front door person has sort of deal with a fake taxi cab ( that is, car is like a taxi, with meter but no license number to taxi company hot line number displayed). We ended up got rip off by this for roughly $10 - not a lot of money but very distasteful.

Nothing - all was good
I stayed at this hotel over the New Year and had a wonderful experience. The location is excellent—just a 2-minute walk to Nanjing Road and very convenient for visiting the Bund. The suite was very spacious and comfortable. We stayed as a group of four and found it to be great value for money. The suite included one large bedroom, a separate living room, and a small working room that could be converted into an additional bedroom with an extra bed, which worked perfectly for us.The highlight of our stay was the exceptional service, especially from Francis Zhang, the concierge. He was extremely helpful, enthusiastic, and genuinely service-minded. He went above and beyond to assist with arrangements, recommend and book restaurants, and proactively arrange our airport transfer without being asked. His attentiveness and positive attitude made our stay smooth, stress-free, and truly enjoyable. “He significantly contributed to our 5-star experience”
I was stayed in Grand Central hotel Shanghai last December 3rd through December 17th with my husband. During our staying we feels hotel service is very nice and perfectional make us feels comfortable especially Andy the hotel front manager gave the kindness and worms service makes us feel very appreciated. I hope next time when I come to visit Shanghai again will stay in Grand Central hotel again. And I also will introduce all my friends about the Grand Central hotel Shanghai when they plan to come visit Shanghai.Jasmine Wang
Just think the room bathroom needs more clean as a 5 star hotel especially the toilet.
Quite an opulent foyer, one definitely feels spoiled. Room was massive with a giant bed that swallowed and repaired ones tired soul after a long flight. Great location bang in the middle of things. The two gentlemen at the front entrance ordering taxis were the two nicest people I met in China, sadly there names have escaped me. Helped me out though and I wont forget that.
I do not recall a fridge. It's a little old and tired but not in a bad way.
Location is great, 1 min from Nanjing road, close to Metro and centrally located from all attraction areas.Room was clean and renovated, quite with comfortable beds.Breakfast has a variety but taste might be better.
Breakfast & coffee taste might be slightly improved.
Although the hotel is slightly dated, it is exceptionally clean and very well maintained. The staff were consistently friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The Executive Suite was spacious, comfortable, and well-appointed. The location is outstanding — right across from Nanjing Road, just a few minutes’ walk from the nearest metro station, and around 15 minutes on foot to the Bund.
The buffet breakfast is below five-star standard — uninspiring and repetitive. While there was plenty of variety, the food quality was mediocre at best, and during our six-night stay, the selection never changed.Executive Lounge access (5–7 pm) was included with the suite and offered complimentary food and drinks. Unfortunately, it was completely empty, with an awkward silence that could easily be improved by some light background music. The finger-food buffet was disappointing; when we arrived shortly after 6 pm, we were the only guests, and all of the “hot” dishes had gone cold.Lastly, the Wi-Fi is almost unusable — painfully slow, and most international websites and apps (Google, Facebook, Netflix, etc.) are blocked, which makes it very inconvenient for foreign travelers.
The hotel was in a good location very close to Nanjing Road and very good location to other sites like the pearl tower and observation building.
The hotel rooms are decorated quite old-fashioned which is fine it wasn't a big problem. But the TV was very old with a very unclear picture. The shower had black dirt around the seal and not very good pressure. The towels had holes in them which is pure laziness that the cleaning staff would not see the holes and discard the towels. There was also a bad smell off the towels that made me feel like they were not properly clean. They give you one little bottle of shower gel a day that would not be enough for two people staying in the room. The room was located on the 16th floor beside the elevator and it was very loud with people coming in at 2am. When we checked in we were asked for a 50 euro deposit per night so as we were staying 4 nights that was a 200 euro deposit. This was not a huge issue for us but it was not mentioned when I booked the hotel and it could really surprise people when they arrive who may not have that extra money to spare. Also still have not received the deposit back 4 days later. Very disappointing. Also when we checked out the woman at reception, who could speak English, just took the room card key with a bad manner and did not ask us how our stay was or a simple thank you and good bye. I don't think it is a lot to ask for a polite manner when checking out of a hotel and disappointing when you spend so much on the hotel to stay there. There were other hotels in the same location that I would recommend staying in over this hotel
Spacious room with excellent breakfast. Staffs were friendly and cooperative.
Lack of Muslim foods.

2 deposits I had to pay. The hotel brought it back not immediately. I still wait for the first deposit to be back. Never visit this hotel again.
