Shanghai Moller Villa Hotel

Charming decor and interesting history. Small touches such as fresh fruit and cookies in the room were really appreciated. Breakfast was excellent and staff were helpful.

Good location

Room is so outdated, at one point, there is no hot water. Whenever taking shower, water just leaks into the entire bathroom，there is serious plumbing related problems. Staff needs more training. Not worth of the price.

The garden made this place special in the middle of the city. The location is very central to many places I visited. The building is moderate in size so it felt very warm.

The hardwares and plumbing need some updates. The shower in our room did not work so they had to move us to a new room. The auto reminder about a stair in the entry way is loud and annoying, which may be normal in local standard but it is not to international travelers.

Breakfast is excellent. Love small wonton.It is located in the Shanghai French Concession, perfect for a city walk.

The location isn't ideal for walking but doable. General location in Shanghai is good.

The hotel is full of history and it is very well located- you can easily walk around and discover many restaurants.

Breakfast could do with a couple of more western choices or for people with allergies; but overall a good value for money still.

This boutique hotel is a real find. It has been beautifully restored and everything is first rate. The property has retained its historic charm and has all modern amenities. The location in the former French concession is great for walking.

The staff are very friendly and I exchanged a couple of written messages with them. Staff at reception speaks reasonable English but a further upskilling would be great.

A well-run hotel in a fabulous building with loads of history. It's kind of amazing that you can stay there for a normal reasonable hotel rate.

The main downside is noise: Since it's an old, wooden building, there's inevitably not much soundproofing between the rooms and the corridors, so if the people around you make a noise you can hear it.

Staff are friendly and helpful with great hospitality. Albeit the room is smaller than we expected and the terrace is not exactly with a view, but it’s a very pleasant stay in the Fairyland! Love the interior and the story how it was built, especially the integration of the West with the Chinese elements. We also loved the breakfast buffet with both Chinese and western choices, one of the things we looked forward to every morning during our stay.

As many mentioned, room isn’t really soundproof but not a big problem at all.

We could enjoy very historical environment and felt special other than ordinary city hotels.

The facility of which room I reserved described it has bathtub, but actually no bathtub only shower. Very disappointed that the actual was not true.

The tour of the villa was very insightful. Christiano went above and beyond to answer our questions about the history of Moller and even gave us an additional exclusive tour of the guest room in the main building.

It is a beautiful hotel, with historic architecture, excellent breakfast, wonderful staffs at front desk, breakfast area, and gates.

The hotel is wonderful, except the voice proof between the rooms are very limited.

Amazing historic building in the center of Shanghai very close to the famous Jing'An temple as well as several shopping malls.

Old building, majestic. Perfect location. Staff very polite. Breakfasts were complimentary. Free mini bar. Photogenic hotel. They give excursions.

Excellent location, very trendy boutique cafes and bars (mostly Japanese, sushi etc.) on the tree-lined street nearby. Extensive breakfast (more Euro/Chinese than American style), 15-20 minute walk to metro. This hotel might seem quirky for Shanghai, but it worked out very well.

Like all the hotels we stayed at in China, only the desk manager can speak any English. I'm not suggesting the whole world should speak my language, just that it's difficult to communicate with other staff, and none know many tourist sights or how to get to them or seem interested in finding out. You'd think a hotel would promote the excellent and interesting boutique shops, cafes and bars nearby, but no one mentioned this. Maybe because 85% of the guests here were older, conservative Chinese people. The rooms were nice, but seem to cater to this demographic.
