tv did not workair conditioner fan broken and noisycar park not secured from public. back gate did not lock.water egress into living area from bathroom
Staff managed my case with the stairs - appreciated. I was bemused the breakfast room ran out of black tea bags however one of the staff made me a weak coffee and the next morning came with one black tea bag especially for me. I felt valued.Note I stayed three nights, booked Sat and Sun and added an extra booking for Mon. The room was quiet and something I had never noticed before, on the booking sheet it asked if anyone had a hearing problem in case of an emergency. A good thing to do. I have been in another large hotel, the fire alarm went off and we didn't hear it initially. Happy not to have my room serviced every day.
It would be good if the meals came in two sizes (I didn't ask) They were too generous for me.
The upgraded room was spacious, historic and comfortable. We had room 120. The bistro had good fairly priced food. Staff there was friendly and accommodating.
The room 120 is the room in the cover photo. Is is above the lobby facing traffic. It literally was the worse night of sleep in many years. The road noise was so loud. It was like sleeping with the windows open. And then every time the lobby doors opened and closed, the noise that reverberated upward was annoying. Its such a great historic building dating back to the 1920s. Very sad to see the poor shape of things. The wood doors and windows are deteriorating. The outside stucco is worn and missing paint. The inner courtyard, while it could be beautiful, was neglected. Weeds, lawn in poor shape and overall a sad affair. Oh if you have a car make sure you “pre book” a space. If you do its $15/night otherwise they try to stiff you for $25/night.
room needed some care breakfast needed some changes - breakfast hot items all cold
Clean room, comfortable bed, had all the necessary amenities for a one night stay.
Signage to the room wasn't completely clear, if you're on the opposite side from reception the hallways are long and hard to navigate. I had booked a pet friendly room which had advertised a pet bed and bowl, plus a welcome treat and we received none of that. I didn't bring my pet's bed from home as I was expecting one in the room.
I would like to stay both before and after taking a return train trip to Sydney. I want to confirm that my car can be parked in your secure area whilst in Sydney for approx. one week.
The location and general facilities. Express breakfast was good.
Heating system was insufficient and noisy. The TV system didn’t work and I was forced to change rooms. The WiFi was very weak.
Good location Great room
The bistro was a bit understaffed and it took a long time to get dinner order
It was clean and very close to all amenities
The rooms are not at all sound proof. You can hear everything from the other room
Comfortable bed. Clean, warm room, and nice old-world ambiance. Compared to many old hotels the value for money was excellent.
Our window could see a little sky, but mainly the steel rooftop (1m below us) and the air-con tower. Other rooms had beautiful garden or street-scape views. I guess that's what you get for the low priced option. The bar/bistro was a little disappointing. The bar closes at 9:00pm, and the food was only just acceptable. The tables and self-serve cutlery were grubby.
Beautiful historic buildings and furnishings. The balconies and gardens are superb and the area is quiet
The food and dining areas need work. The bistro especially needs a makeover
the room was good, bed comfy, bathroom well renovated, plenty of bar / dining / lounge facilities, even a grand piano! Lovely older style place
the restaurant food - classic pub style was fine, but it could be better quality; no lift but only single flight of stairs so not too bad; can hear others air conditioners running
Stayed in the loft room. It was great, cozy and warm. The autumn view was very nice. Staff and housekeeping were amazing!
Buffet breakfast was good enough but most items ran out and were not restocked.
Room was huge, definitely not cramped. Everything you needed and a nice old hotel to walk through. Bed was clean and comfy. Staff were quick and happy to help. Easy and ample parking both in and around the hotel.
Room was perfectly fine but starting to show its age with paint peeling and wear and tear. Tv had no connection ability and the place was a bit of a maze, especially being in the back half of the hotel. Surrounding streets were interesting to walk home from the city after dinner. Lots of public housing in between the hotel and the city.
The setting and gardens Charm Our room was clean and comfortable
We really did NOT enjoy the dining area … The food was served in the pub area with TV screens, bright lights … NOT APPEALING.Not sure why the other dining area was not used? The food was good.
Effort was put in for ANZAC day including tea and coffee before the Dawn Service. Breakfast post Dawn Service was nice. Location for the War Memorial was perfect.
Location was perfect for Dawn Service on Anzac day but that was about it! Bed was uncomfortable, only access was via stairs (fine for us but other much older clients were checking in as well). Bathroom was so very tiny, like a caravan bathroom. Very noisy room, could hear basic conversations from the street and hall way... could do with double glazed windows. It is a lovely old building but really needs some work for the amount of money we were charged for 2 rooms for 1 night!
Location was good, room was clean, staff was friendly
Areas of the hotel need to be refurbished, the price was inflated because of Anzac Day, I didn’t buy breakfast because it was so expensive. Air conditioner in the room didn’t work
