About

On a hill overlooking the green valley between Assisi and Perugia, TH Perugia - Castello Di Monterone takes its name from the area where it is located. It features a restaurant with a panoramic terrace. The first reference to the castle was discovered in Perugia’s historic archives in a document dating back to the 13th-century. This historic establishment is now a comfortable hotel. Guests can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a tranquil, relaxing environment both inside and outside the castle walls. At TH Perugia - Castello Di Monterone, guests can enjoy peace and quiet in the cozy library, or socialize in front of the fireplace in one of 2 lounges. The hotel’s spa includes a sauna, Turkish bath and a swimming pool with a hydro-massage corner. In the evenings, guests can relax under the stars and enjoy the city lights of Perugia’s ancient skyline.

    Pros +

    • The views and gardens and unique rooms and structure.
    • Everything exceeded our expectations and it was an excellent stay. Very highly recommended.
    • I liked the pool, the library, the surrounding, the hotel was clean and bed was comfortable.

    Cons -

    • A little difficult to get to town or transportation without a car.
    • My room a/c wasn’t working very well so we didn’t have comfortable sleep, the hotel gave us a fan and it helped a little but it’s a big priority for summer.
    • It’s not an ideal location if you don’t have a car. It’s €15 one way from the city center and €20 from the train station. I got a taxi from the hotel to the city center and the driver said I would be able to ask the hotel to call one to take me back later. When I asked the hotel if they would call a taxi for me, they said they could not.

The view from my room was breathtaking. The grounds were beautiful. I loved starting my day in the sauna and ending it with reading by the fireplace.

I absolutely loved everything about this place—it far exceeded my expectations. The staff and owner were exemplary in their hospitality, making us feel right at home. I only wish we could have stayed longer, as we were there for just one night. I will definitely recommend this place to all my friends. We were able to dine at the restaurant even with short notice and the food was just fabulous, as was the breakfast.

Been traveling to Italy for 50 years, and this hotel is my absolute favorite hotel of all of my visits. A charming castle that is seeping with character and history with every step

the view, the place, the setting

the restaurant is average and the vibe does not match the hotel's experience

The building is gorgeous and interesting. The grounds are peaceful and the sunset views are very nice. We truly enjoyed most everything about the stay.

The restaurant decor (also the breakfast room) didn't really match the rest of the property (felt a little bland, compared to the beautiful original structure). The bar as well, feels a bit tucked into the corner of the lounge area. For a property with so many common spaces, very few of the interior spaces are truly usable. The outdoor area is superb, though!

Everything. It was an amazing stay and beautiful location, food was amazing

The AC didn't work and talking to other guests none that we spoke to had theirs working either.

A real experience sleeping in a authentic castle full of history. Just a tip : when getting there just double check a real manual map and do not trust completely google maps if you don’t want to go through steep very narrow roads. There are much better streets to get there.

Nothing. I would just suggest to add a dimmer in the bathroom light. To access the bathroom from the bedroom there were stairs and if you have a habit of waking up once during the night you may want to leave the bathroom light on to avoid tripping on the stairs at night, so a dimmed light is a softer impact during the night.

    Stunning outside castle and property

AC did not work, could hear rooms near by, hot tubs were dirty

    10BerardinelliPosted on: 9-18-2025

The views are spectacular, the staff is attentive making the overall experience magical

There could have been better signage as to the location a bit hard to find.

Breakfast was very good. The best caffe latte we had in Italy. The best view of the valley from our window. Superb gardens. Good air conditioning in room. Robes and slippers were a nice touch.

The internet kept disconnecting. Could have been better. The dinner food at the hotel restaurant was good but somehow limited. Pizza, lasagna, salads would have been good options.

    10IonelaPosted on: 9-1-2025

The hotel is stunning, and the gardens & restaurant offer excellent views of Perugia. We had dinner at the restaurant and it was delicious. The staff is very friendly.

    Breakfast and location very peaceful!!

Had the worst room at the hotel and for what we paid, I was not very happy!!

This was one of the nicest places we stayed at in Italy. Just a short distance outside the old town of Perugia, this hidden gem is tucked away in a beautifully restored historic castle. The garden, the pool, and the entire setting were simply wonderful. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making our stay even more enjoyable.Highly recommended - a perfect blend of charm, comfort, and tranquility!

Outstanding facility with great air conditioning, pool, restaurant, food, wait staff, natural beauty and you’re in a castle!

The mattress and pillows were not to our personal preference, but don’t even like mentioning anything here because our stay was so wonderful.

    10SamPosted on: 4-24-2025

Exceptional, beautiful property very close to Perugia. Extremely helpful and polite staff. Facilities were fantastic too, including the restaurant. Made to feel very special as it was our honeymoon, went out of their way to give a congratulatory breakfast cake.

Beautiful property ideally located to the city centre. Friendly welcome, rooms fairly basic and beds / pillows certainly not luxury. Breakfast was ok

    9KimPosted on: 4-12-2025

Wonderful site; location very convenient to visit Perugia and surroundings; and most importantly—all the staff were helpful and lovely!
