    Pros +

    • Gorgeous grounds - basically your own private several acre botanical garden. Not right in city center but a 5 euro quick cab ride away an very peaceful retreat. On site restaurants were excellent. Easy onsite parking. Lovely pools.
    • Amazing hotel, fantastic brekfest, swimmingpool, hotel garden, library and SPA. Very friendly and welcoming staff. Very clean
    • Loved the peace of the gardens the hotel had a very relaxed peaceful vibe. Hotel staff were faultless, efficient and eager to help if needed.

    Cons -

    • There is a steep hill to climb when returning from Funchal!
    • No atmosphereRestaurant v poorNo bar
    • Soundproofing isn’t very good, but it’s a quiet place normally with more elderly people staying for some race and quiet, however, we had to complain one afternoon about the noise from the room next door, which we are told were kids playing. It only happened once. It’s quite surprising though that kids are allowed at this hotel due to there being no kids facilities, except a pool. Anyway, for that reason alone we wouldn’t return.

The bedrooms are so outdated and in disrepair. They have not been touched for over 20 years ! They have a very unloved and tatty feel about them. The price does not reflect this .

Such a peaceful hotel with fantastic staff, stunning grounds and a delicious breakfast choice.

There is a steep hill to climb when returning from Funchal!

Lovely gardens. The WiFi worked quite well, the breakfasts some mornings were better than others. If you came down for a late breakfast, some cooked things like bacon had been hanging around too long. We had only one evening meal which was adequate for very expensive. There are nice restaurants only 5-10 minutes walk down a steep hill.

Wonderful staff, great location with beautiful gardens, nice restaurants, nice gym.

Shrieking child making plenty of noise in an otherwise sedate and seemingly adult-oriented hotel. Nothing luxurious about that.

Garden is a paradise, Staff very attentive and well trained

A bit more variety for breakfast is needed

    9LPosted on: 1-6-2025

Hotel was amazing! Great location, beautiful garden, tasteful breakfast, really great place to stay!

Only thing to give feedback on: The room was a bit outdated. Hardly any sockets for our chargers, no separate shower. During showering in the bathtub a cover plate from the ceiling fell down on me. It was covered with a lot of fungus.

Wonderful location with friendly staff in a beautifully kept garden oasis. Conveniently located next to some superb restaurants.

The walls between the adjacent rooms are thin so noice travels easily

    9LeePosted on: 11-28-2024

The gardens were beautiful and the room was large, comfortable and clean with a comfortable double sun lounger to enjoy the fantastic views over the garden. It was well placed a short walk from the city centre (15 mins for those without mobility issues) and close to several restaurants and car rental places. The onsite dining was also delicious and easy to get a table.

The doors are a bit noisy as they slam, but thankfully it was quiet at night.

Lovely property, facilities and wonderful staff that ensures that rooms and grounds are always kept up to standards. Everyone is kind and helpful and goes the extra mile. Nothing is too much and everything is delivered with a smile. We had the most wonderful time and will return again. Thank you to all the staff that make this place magical.

We loved it and there is nothing we did miss or not like!

Absolutely fantastic place, the hotel, the garden, the food and wine, the staff. Magical place.

A very beautiful hotel with a stunning garden area. Very centrally located, which makes city excursions much easier.

Unfortunately, the food in the restaurant was only average for the high price range. We are used to something different from a 5-star accommodation.

Location is amazing. Feels like you're in the countryside but yet so close to the city.Breakfast has so much choice and you will not need lunch. All the staff are friendly and so professional. A lot of people seem to be on their second or third visit and I can understand why.

The only negative and it is very insignificant is that the bar cocktails seemed to be premade.

    9SandraPosted on: 9-16-2024

Upgraded to premium suite. What is there not to like?Amazing!

Probably need taxi back to hotel if eating in town. Very inexpensive, so no problem.

    10SarahsPosted on: 9-9-2024

The green environs, absolutely beautiful gardens. The service was also very good, staff were very pleasant. Location was perfect, affording us a pre and post dinner stroll.

Nothing to report, we really enjoyed our stay. More information about the beautiful island of Madeira. Possibly a Madeira wine tasting or more Madeiran dishes at the restaurants.

Beautiful building and lovely rooms. We appreciated the attentive staff who went out of their way. The restaurant in the Manor House was great. And the pool was perfect

There was no bar to speak of… not enough staff to maintain it.
