About

An Adults Only hotel set in a restored 19th-century manor house, nestled within 98 ft² of beautifully landscaped botanical gardens overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Located just 328 feet from the center of Caniço, with easy access by foot to shops, restaurants, pharmacies, bank, supermarket, and other local services, the hotel is 5 mi from Funchal and 5.6 mi from airport. Quinta Splendida offers the perfect balance of tranquility, nature, and easy access to the city. This sanctuary is often described as an “Island within the Island.” More than a scenic setting, the garden serves as a haven for wellness, reconnection, and reflection, showcasing a wide variety of flora and offering guests moments of natural beauty and peace. A recent addition is the Zen Garden – a tranquil sanctuary designed for meditation and mindfulness. Surrounded by stones, flowering trees, and gentle greenery, it invites guests to pause, breathe deeply, and embrace the stillness of the moment. The gardens are home to seasonal flowers, aromatic plants, and an organic vegetable garden. Many of these herbs are used in the hotel’s wellness treatments and in dishes served at our restaurants, reflecting a deep-rooted philosophy of sustainability and respect for Nature. Guests can enjoy one of the largest spas in Madeira, featuring 10 treatment rooms, a Finnish sauna, an indoor pool, an ice fountain, etc. Leisure activities nearby include golf, diving, and whale watching. Elegant rooms at Quinta Splendida feature private balconies, modern furnishings, satellite TV, a mini-bar or kitchenette – ideal for long or independent stays. Dining options include La Perla for gourmet Portuguese cuisine, a Thai lounge, a cocktail bar, and a poolside snack bar offering light meals and smoothies. The hotel also provides a tour desk, bicycle rentals, and car hire assistance, making it easy to explore the island with comfort and care. Hi-speed Wi-Fi is free and available throughout the property. Request Type : Fine Print Guests under the age of 18 can only check in with a parent or official guardian. A convenient choice of menu is also available for guests when booking half board meal option. Pros +

    • The grounds throughout the hotel are gorgeous and well maintained. If you want a place that feels like a jungle, this is the place for you. We got upgraded to a larger room with an ocean view which was amazing. Close to a little cafe with local baked goods and real coffee. Very walk-able to restaurants within the town. Hairdryer came with a diffuser for us curly-haired ladies.
    • Wonderfull garden. Comfortable beds. Very hot water in the shower. Large buffet breakfest.

    Cons -

    • First, the included breakfast was not up to par with the rest of the breakfasts I have had in Europe. The coffee came from a machine and tasted awful. If you want real coffee from an espresso maker and barista you have to pay 3.50 euros and that was not good either. They lacked fresh jams/marmalades and the selection was just subpar for the buffet. Wait staff was not friendly. Feels very discount. Then the parking was not free and cost 6 euros and half the time we had to park in some parking garage because it was too full. The spa was nothing special. It has a sauna, steam room, Jacuzzi, and a cold plunge, but no view, and did not feel very serene especially since it is not included and have you have to pay 23 euros per person to use it PER DAY. Our room was really okay, the location is too close to the main highway so once outside all you hear is road noise. The shower door needed some grease as it made it this horrible squeak when opening and closing. We had an issue with ants near the coffee machine, there is no conditioner so ladies be prepared to walk up the road to the grocery store. They state that at departure you will get some seedling of a bird of paradise or other plant and I did not receive any when checking out.
    • Doors to terace were not able to lock. Beds are not fixed together for pairs, have a wheels. Parking is quite expensive - 6€ per day.
    • The TV set and inability to change language or settings other than the preset German.

The massages in the spa were excellent. The garden setting was wonderful, with all the accommodation well integrated.

The botanical garden is amazing! Staff is very nice & friendly. The bi-weekly dinner in La Perla is highly recommend (we didn’t have half board, so the additional cost didn’t bother us). Breakfast is good. Beds are comfortable but a bit on the firmer side (was fine with me)

Appartement with one bedroom is very spacious but especially the bathroom could do with an update. No bidet. We had a couple of rainy days in the beginning the room felt a bit cold and damp

the garden is beautiful, peaceful and healing. It is very well kep and the gardeners provide the restaurant with fresh produce.

    having to leave!

Botanical garden was exceptional. Very good spa facilities. Welcoming and friendly staff, especially Raymondo in the Siddharta bar! Comfortable apartment. 25 minute bus ride to Funchal.

Free gym was not functional and no air con in either gyms. No iron in the apartment. Fridges in the apartment were not cold enough and made a gurgling noise which made a restful night's sleep difficult for a light sleeper.

Nice hotel in Caniço. Rooms are very big, but a little bit old, and well equipped with small kitchen. Inside pool is a great bonus for winter days.

    See below.

The coffee at breakfast is an outrage - especially considering the price. It should be real ground beans, not instant. The shower head is appalling - could have expected it 30 years ago in a bad hotel - unforgiveable here.

The setting was gorgeous and the views incredible. The facilities were excellent and the whole place is very peaceful and beautiful. The staff were a highlight - extremely helpful and friendly, and the meals were all superb.

There were a few little touches missing that made it less comfortable than it should be. For example, the room lacked air conditioning and was uncomfortably hot at night, even with a fan provided. I would have opened the window to cool down but there were a lot of biting mosquitos, so the choice was between being too hot or getting constantly bitten through the night. Either a bugnet across the balcony door or air conditioning would have solved this dilemma! Then there were other tiny things, like the gorgeous huge bathroom that was let down by a poor quality showerhead. I'm nitpicking - overall this hotel is fantastic, but these little things can make a difference.

It is very nice garden there.

We got totally different rooms than we had reserved. It was first when I complain they said they had some tecnical problems. But we did not notice any problems. We got one new room after one day and our friends after two days. One room was OK but room number two for our friends was even worse that the first we got. We got free very good breakfast but that did not really paid of the difference. The hotel need a upgrade to justified the stars they have.

The ground were beautiful and the staff friendly and accommodating. a would like to give a special thanks to Marcia who helped resolve and issue with our room and was extremely helpful and attentive.

    9YvonnePosted on: 5-23-2023

Very friendly staff, such a beautiful garden, a room with our own little garden, the food was good and the breakfast excellent with many healthy choices. Masseuses very nice and good

For a wellness hotel the wellness part was not sufficient. There is 1 sauna and 1 steamroom and the last was hardly warm, certainly not hot. The sport equipment was rusty and insufficient

    7StaceyeppPosted on: 5-18-2023

The flower gardens were fantastic, and the pools, views were top notch. I loved walks in the gardens.

The beds were uncomfortable, and the facilities were dated, especially the decor. The inside did not match the outside in beauty and attention to detail.

    7AlanPosted on: 1-4-2023

beautiful garden surroundings, lovely large room, good amenities, lovely town,

Staff seem to have been told to give nothing for free. So simple things like a little milk for tea and coffee when you arrive after a long trip, they tell you to go to the supermarket up the road. And a card in the room “boasted” about a free gift, which was tea, sugar and a bottle of water. Disgraceful. Also the cheapest feather-like toilet paper was terrible to use. And the food costs were really too high. You can tell it’s all about the money and not about the guests.

    3MiroslavaPosted on: 1-3-2023

    the spa and the garden.

paid extra for a seaside view and got a room without window and definitely no seaside view. had to pay additional fees for the spa, witch is usually free for the guests, especially if you advertise your hotel as a spa and wellness. broken shower, ants and dripping through the smoke detector water made the stay not so pleasant.

    8AinoPosted on: 1-1-2023

Great garden and room to spend time outside, beautiful views and nice location close to a village. Easy to move to Funchal and around by bus. I recommend the hotel highly.

Only minus is that our room was very damp and a bit too chilly. We visited there in December so maybe it's not a problem all year around.

    10KingaPosted on: 12-12-2022

Beautiful garden, great view, excellent breakfast

The room was clean but should be refurbished a bit

    10LauraPosted on: 12-6-2022

This is a very beautiful resort with an amazing garden. We liked it a lot and we were sorry to stay there only one night before our flight back home. The room is big and nice. We hope to be back to Madeira and to have time to stay more nights here.

    7MarcelloPosted on: 4-19-2022

the gardens are marvellous and very well maintained

no real heating system in our two floors space, the ground-floor with the living and the kitchen had no heating at all, it was cold all the time, the bedroom in the upper floor had a radiator on wheels, the bathroom nothing. when we arrived all the space was cold, and outside was cold and raining. The two beds were separate, with separated linens, not comfortable for a couple. There is a safe in the room but not the keys, to get the key you are requested to pay an extra. also no parking included, there is an extra as well. the outside swimming pool is cold, they do not cover it in the night.these things are surprising for a place paid 250€ x night, 2 guests with no meal included.
