Pros +
- Great location, met basic needs
- Excellent location to visit many sites. All walkable. Stayed 3 nights and we were able to visit numerous places. Close to Bouchon Chez Chabert which was excellent but had made reservations 3 weeks prior. Good breakfast and friendly staff. We liked how they kept some of the dormitory furnishings.
- Breakfast needs more variety or change offerings during the week. The male restaurant manager was exceptional!!
Cons -
- Decor was a bit odd at times, room was no frills, water pressure in shower was very poor and only basic soap was provided
- Same things every day.
- The room space was very cramped. The bath was very high to get in and out of, with no grab bar to hold onto and also the bath was slippery. An accident waiting to happen for guests of a certain age.

Location right in the middle of Old Town Lyon
Very old facilities and poorly furnished and equipped Definitely not a 4 stars hotel but rather 2 stars
The hotel was perfectly located in Vieux Lyon, close to restaurants, cafes and bakeries. The balcony views of the city and the church were quite beautiful. The rooms were clean.
Rooms are small and kind of basic but met the needs for our one night stay.
The location in old town was excellent. Easy to get around and walkable. The staff were pleasant & helpful. Breakfast was very good with lots of variety.
The AC did not work in our room. I asked the front desk and their response was “it’s on” but it wasn’t. By the time I heard we could change rooms it was too late in the day. Opening the doors to outside wasn’t as option because the cigarette smoke was overwhelming. Need to think about moving the smokers away from the patio. Hard with allergies.
Excellent hotel with very helpful staff, great location and very good breakfast.
Good location. Very helpful staff, good price
NA
The College Hotel was very clean and comfortable, it had a good bed, and a good, big shower with lots of hot water and water pressure. We were there for three very hot days in Lyon and the air conditioning was quiet and just the right level of cool. The staff were cheery and helpful. The roof terrace was a relaxing place to wind down. The decor in the various public spaces was quirky and tasteful. We did not eat at the hotel so I can’t comment on that, but the hotel is so well situated, right in the heart of Old Lyon, close to good restaurants, boulangeries, right next to a main bus route that gets you into the rest of Lyon. We were extremely happy with our choice of the College Hotel.
The hallways are a bit dark and featureless with some signs of wear and tear and could do with sprucing up, but this didn’t affect our overall positive feeling for the hotel.
Amazing and friendly staff. Front desk, breakfast ares, all around. The room was sizable and well equipped with a comfortable bed and pillows. The bathroom facilities were large by most European hotel standards. A good value and a great location.
This does NOT reflect on the hotel. The city ofLyon is not car friendly, so if you visit, take the train. If you drive, prepare for frustration.
The location at the end of the main street of the Vieux Lyon area was excellent. Lyon from the hotel was walkable, especially along the river.
Sort of far from Pare Dieu (I walked. It took about an hour.)
The location. Friendly staff
We like milk in our tea so having a small fridge in the room would have been helpful. Also to keep some of the amazing fresh produce available everywhere.
The hotel is charming and quirky. Staff were excellent and unobtrusive. The location was perfect for exploring the city on foot. Liked it so much extended another night and will be back.
The breakfast was serviceable but nothing special - and unneeded. Dozens and dozens of amazing restaurants nearby.
breakfast was ok for one day but we ate out the other day.
the car elevator was challenging to access the location of the hotel was great
Great location, clean quiet rooms
Loved the spacious room, great shower. Breakfast had lots of choice, excellent quality. We liked that many foods were organic, local. The recycling facilities and encouragement to do so were great. Filtered cold water to help ourselves to was good too. Great location in Vieux Lyon, close to restaurants etc.
I would have liked a choice of oat milk or soya milk at breakfast.
It is not a four star hotel
Very difficult to park with medium cars. It is expensive and the rooms are very regular, it seems more a thematic hostel than a four star hotel.
Great local in the heart of the old Lyon built in Art Deco style old school building. Great breakfast buffet. Rooms are very compact but good for sleeping. We liked a lot the second floor sundeck where you could have your private area after hustle and bustle old town street time.
Excellent location for exploring Lyon. Very helpful staff at reception. Hôtel with character. Very pleasant terrace.
