    Pros +

    • Wonderful charm, comfortable amenities and great service.
    • Absolutely beautiful hotel and exceptionally helpful staff. We were upgraded to a suite which was a lovely surprise. The breakfast was fabulous!
    • Beautiful historic property with comfortable rooms and spa a few minutes from Lille town centre and very close to Palais des Beaux Arts. Fantastic front desk staff.

    Cons -

    • We felt that the spa wasn’t to the same standard as the hotel, very small and too busy.We were also disappointed to not have access to a smart TV (although there were 2 TV’s in the suite, we could only access French TV and so couldn’t watch a film.Sadly the young lady who collected our car from the valet parking scraped it on the side of the garage, so we now have the hassle of having this fixed when we get home. Not a good end to a lovely relaxing break.
    • The spa was very busy and staff were not really on top of things but our massage was good. Breakfast was good but the dining room is too small and staff were overlwhelmed, lots of people queuing to get a table at 10.30 am.
    • There was nothing I could fault. We spent some time in the bar area which was equally lovely. The staff were very friendly. I could not understand the comments from other people that said it was tired and did not enjoy themselves.

The room was lovely. The bed was soft and comfortable but a little bouncy. I was woken up by my husband moving. The breakfast was lovely and the service was great and good selectionDid not use the pool.

We liked the historical aspect of the hotel itself and the location.

We honestly couldn’t believe this was a five-star hotel. The rooms are dark and uninspired, which was disappointing given how charming the building itself is.We were in town for the Braderie and, after a long second day of nonstop shopping, we were absolutely exhausted. The restaurant wasn’t open yet, so we decided to grab a quick bite in the lobby. There were only two other parties there, and the server told us they were down to just three items on the menu. That was fine — we weren’t being picky — and we ordered two Croque Monsieurs. After 30–40 minutes with no food, we finally asked what was going on. The server told us he had also complained to the kitchen, but the food still wasn’t available. At that point, we decided to leave. We were surprised that he still charged us for the water we drank. The next day, we ran into him again and he apologized, saying they’d been overwhelmed and that we needed to understand that. He also told us he’d taken the water off our bill — but of course, when we checked out, it was still on the invoice.Housekeeping also left a lot to be desired. One day we returned to our room to find it had been somewhat straightened, but an empty coffee cup had been left on the nightstand, and the floors hadn’t been swept.Individually, these may seem like small issues — but when a hotel positions itself as five-star, the details matter. The decor is another missed opportunity. The building itself is gorgeous and full of potential, but the interior design is a hodgepodge of clashing styles that don’t reflect the elegance of the architecture. Why not lean into the charm of the space with thoughtfully chosen antiques and artwork? As it stands, the art on the walls feels completely out of place and detracts from the overall ambiance. All in all, I don’t think this is a bad hotel — but if you’re expecting five-star service and amenities, this isn’t the place.

Amazing hotel. The staff were lovely & friendly. Beautiful interior with so much history.Great central location. It was an easy 20 min walk from the Eurostar terminal & 15 mins walking into the city. Breakfast was great, with lots of healthy choices. Would highly recommend

Nothing. It was great on all levels

    Architectural history

Very poor for a 5 star hotel. Facade of the building was not replicated in the inside. Inside tired.Rooms so little light we had to use a torch to see anything. Bar area open and not a “cosy” area to sit - more akin to sitting in a covered garden room.

Beautifully and considerately restored historic building. Quite comfortable and very large room. Very comfortable

We stayed 2 nights at this historic building on November. Beautiful architecture, excellent location, friendly staff, comfortable beds, and convenient water refills in the hallways. Good breakfast, although not what you'd expect from a 5-star hotel.

Room: we were given a ground floor room that was very poorly lit and dull. The toilet was separate, without a sink, but not next to the rest of the bathroom; it was on the opposite side of the room, meaning we had to walk across the entire room to wash our hands. I've never seen anything like it! The shower head could not be adjusted upwards and was positioned in such a way that it splashed water all outwards, since the bathtub had a half-glass shower door.Breakfast: on our first day (we arrived at the breakfast room at 9 am) the service was chaotic and disorganized. The food was replenished far too slowly, and the place wasn't even full. There was an excellent professional Nespresso machine (instead of the awful automatic ones that make terrible coffee), but there were no instructions on how to operate the levers, and as a result, long queues formed, with people waiting for the first person in line to guess how to make a cappuccino, until finally the manager stood by the machine explaining one by one how to use it. On our second day we went earlier and breakfast was better organized.Restaurant: its layout was very strange; the room with the bar had warm lighting to create a relaxed atmosphere, while the room next door (where we were seated) was dull and overly lit, creating a less inviting atmosphere for dinner.

Lovely big rooms with excellent sound proofing. Great lobby bar.

    No gym.

Overall fantastic experience. Special shout out goes to the efficiency of the staff, the fantastic experience at the Gantois Estaminet over dinner, the competent staff at the bar (cocktails were all done by the book), and the overall comfort of the executive room (especially the bed and the luxurious bathroom). However the room feels slightly dark so I would recommend some upgrade on that front.

    Nothing in particular.

    Staff lovely, breakfast fantastic

Couldn’t see in the rooms, ridiculous dark. Kettle didn’t work and got a third one that did work. Very early noise outside the window, found out later it was a member of staff using a blower. The pool, spa area echos so we got told to be quiet twice as there was treatments going on. We were only laughing!! It’s the first hotel I have stayed in that did nothing for my birthday although they did ask if it was a special stay. Very strange.

    The staff were amazing

The cleanliness was poor. Hotel room run down. Toilet separate with no sink, this made it very difficult. We asked for milk because there was no milk for coffee, we realised they charged us. Everything very expensive compared to standards

The bed was very comfortable Room was spacious Location was excellentSwimming pool was a nice size Good shower Staff were friendly

When we arrived the coffee cups were used/dirty and water bottle was used... they came to replace the cups when we were out but left the opened water bottle in the room- not what I'd expect from a 5 star. Not keen on carpets in the room Main light in room wasn't working so we used side lamps

The spa was nice, especially the steam room — we really enjoyed it. The room was cosy, clean, and nicely decorated. Heating worked well, and all towels and sheets were fresh. The bar staff and concierge were genuinely kind and helpful.

The lobby décor felt completely out of place — the black tiles and furniture clash with the beautiful historic building. The video playing in the lobby looked like an early-2000s Turkish/Greek pop clip, which felt strange for 2025.Because of those same black tiles, the housekeeping cart made a very loud echo in the corridors in the morning, almost like being next to a train station. My suggestion: replace the black marble tiles, and if that’s too costly, at least update the wheels/feet of the housekeeping cart.

Stunning historical building. Great valet parking for 40€/day. Very close to city center.

No sauna. Steambath (hammam) smelled like mold or fungus. First room had really small bed en very cold floor. Luckely changed for room with kingsize bed and carpet. No shower only bath and very low water pressure. Very poor winelist. Breakfast was not up to standard of roomprices. Dried out bacon. Dirty egg spoon. Hotel croissants, not real French croissants. Room service only during few hours per day. Restaurant menu seemed poor. Bar was not cosy at all. Breakfast and dinner location in molested area. All walls were red. Petty.

    Beautiful old building

Very dark rooms, poor lighting in bedroom. Toilet far from bathroom and while bathroom was updated, toilet is very basic. For the price I would have expected better facilities. Area was not particularly nice.Very underwhelming

A lovely hotel in an amazing building. The staff were friendly, room was comfortable and having access to a pool and steam room was great.

There were a few fittings in our room (311) that are due for a refit, but these were minor (e.g. shower height not adjustable).
