Pros +
- The amazing views, the authenticity, felt as if I slept at a museum especially with the view of the church in front, the unique design of the room, coziness of the bed, service was great and close to most major places of the city.
- Room was very nicely appointed.
- Beautiful boutique hotel,gorgeous view
Cons -
- The room was cold, couldn¿t find heating system and no phone to make room service call. Room service breakfast was great but there was only one choice of food. No complaint on that though.
- It is in a declining area of Bordeaux. This is a bar with some rooms above, not a hotel. The reception/check-in is the bar. On a Sunday night with the bar closed music was blasting just below my room which happened to be directly over the bar. This continued until 2am when I decided to investigate. There were 3 drunks sitting at the bar, one behind the bar responsible for this interruption. In the morning I checked out of the hotel but mgmt refused to reimburse the two nights I would not be using. Management didn’t care. A little research indicates this is a recurring problem and has happened multiple times before to multiple guests. Check TA reviews. When I met with local business people in the following days each and every one said they never go to that area at St Michaels Church where the “hotel” is. There are better hotels in better areas of Bordeaux that have better rates.
- Breakfast , but fresh orange juice and coffee where excellent

The location was fine, the staff was friendly
We were told that there was a party that would last until 11 PM. The party didn't end until 2 AM. The noise and music were so loud no one on that side of the hotel could sleep. Hotel refused to give us refunds
Staff is very friendly and some speak some English. Building is charming.
No elevator--we were on the third (ie., fourth) floor. Room was pretty small for two people.
THe bed was very comfortable, the room itself was a good size and the breakfast was good for the price.
THe hotel was over a bar, in fact the whole operation felt like we were in a bar rather than staying at a hotel. A party was thrown on the second night of our stay, right under our room. It was impossible to sleep with all the noise and we were not happy to say the least. We discussed the situation with management the next day, who gave us 2 free drinks and a free breakfast for the inconvience.
The hotel is very beautiful and set right next to a cathedral, the breakfast was good, however the selection was limited, the rooms are tastefully decorated with African references, the staff is friendly and speaks English well.
The drainage in the bathroom was very smelly, and since it is an open space, it made the whole room smell. The room we were given was a bit on the darker side (only one window), however it was comfortable and otherwise clean.
Our view was amazing!! Our suite was wonderfully decorated, had so much character, and was very clean. Loved the bar in the hotel. Staff was very helpful.
It’s in an area of Bordeaux that is very popular, so there are people having fun down in the street/square. We love to see happy people so it was something we enjoyed (some would not). Floors make noise, but it is old so that is expected. There is a winding staircase, may be difficult for some, we did fine.
Absolutely gorgeous boutique hotel right outside of the saint michel basilica. Location is unbeatable. The hotel is in an old stone building, but very modern and comfortable. I was on the 3rd floor, no elevator but a spectacular stone staircase. The AC was a big advantage during the heat wave during which I was visiting. Spotless clean. Room is not big but perfectly appointed. Breakfast was totally worth it. Not like a big chain buffet but a nice selection of hams and cheeses, fresh baguettes and pastries, jams, fruits, cereals.I am definitely coming back as I travel to Bordeaux often. Thanks again Emma and Raphael for a great stay.
All was perfect! Thanks again.
Fantastic big room with big windows facing the basilica, very clean. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great location, just off the riverfront and very close to all main downtown attractions.
1. There is no door to the bathroom. Taking a shower soaked the bed. And honestly using the toilet requires some privacy….2. WiFi didn’t work at all in our room. We had to come down to the “lobby” (really just a loud bar), for any service. 3. There was some sort of apartment upstairs and w dry movement they made, we heard. And they moved…a Lot! all night.
This place is charming on steroids. The room was spacious, beautifully furnished and featured an amazing view of the cathedral. And if that wasn't enough, the staff was outstandingly friendly, helpful, and efficient. I'd stay here again should I ever get the opportunity to return to Bordeaux.
Lovely staff and best cocktails in town!!! Bed was really comfortable, room was dark and quiet too. 10/10
Amazing view over the church. Bed was comfy. The bar is really nice.
The bathroom fan hasn’t been cleaned in a while and it was very dusty. There was an unpleasant smell coming out of the shower (probably because it’s an old building). Things that could be potentially ignored but not for the price we paid. The breakfast was below average.
A very nice boutique hotel. The room was small but decorated with great attention to detail and very practical. The staff was very helpful and friendly.
The location, while central, felt very dodgy. The hotel itself is on a very popular square with many cafes and restaurants, but the area around was very rough and didn’t feel very safe. I would not recommend it for female/solo travellers.
Central, quiet and good looking.
The bathroom was made off glass? so don’t be shy, you will be visible from the toilet and shower . The hotel is inside of a bar, so i didn’t find it at the first try
Great location. Classic small boutique experience. No frills but just what it is. Staff lovely
Small hotel in a great location
Stairs up to 3rd floor
Nice, small, quiet, modern, cosy. Really light yet warm blankets in bed. Very service-oriented staff. Decoration with taste.
The room would deserve a good removal of dust (lamps, corners of the ceiling, floor, les plinthes). A pity that the cosy, cool and modern setting of the boutique-oriented room has not been kept up with maintenance of the walls (stains, scratches, wear & tear). Hair(s) on the mattress underneath the sheets. Mattress could do with a mattress pad.
First impression was that the neighborhood may have been a little run down - probably my inexperience with visiting Europe. The hotel check in is right at a Bar. But after 2 minutes with the staff, I felt so comfortable and welcomed. We got their early and parked our rental car in a local lot - several near by. They checked our luggage and actually placed it in the room once ready. We hightailed it out of there to explore and started with the nearby church. Cool simple, free (donations are welcomed) and very interesting stories about the bell tower mummies, the lost alabaster panels, and the Nazi bombings. Many nearby restaurants, including a GLUTEN FREE bakery not too far away - on the way to the Gran Cloche and Rue de Catherine - all very cool to stop by. Finally had to come back to sleep and a moderately active Bar was going on. My daughter and her hubby caught up with us and they identified a very cool and trendy bar within a block or two - "the bar with shapes for its name" which is a must try adventure! Finally made it to the room which was cozy with a great bed and bathroom, just enough space to enjoy the night of rest. One flight of stairs for my wife and I's room two flights for my daughter's and hubby's room. Very clean and very safet. We got back to Hotel Lola - and I wish I hadn't been so jet lagged and that we had stayed more than one night. Breakfast was AWESOME and they had enough stuff for my Celiac wife to eat and enjoy. A cozy breakfast area and great OJ, Coffee and pastries as well as the usual european meat and cheese slices - and OF COURSE a fresh loaf of french bagget to enjoy. The hotel is easily walkable to center of town and very close to the tram to get to Cite du Vin and the other fun Bordeaux things to do. A great place - I look forward to going back. Great job Hotel Lola - Merci beau coup!
Only staying one night, Bordeaux has so much to offer!
