    Cons -

    • Situated on top floor in a small box room, heating pelting away all night staff not helpful when asking to sort heating out was told by receptionist if I want to complain then to email. Overall it was not what I expected and will not book a stay again!
    • Reception staff were not helpful to a single mum.
    • Nothing. The building's tired but everything else makes up for that.

    Location was great

The noise from the club, 2am before the music went off , I mentioned this on check out and was informed there were ear plugs in the draw , that would have been helpful to know on check in There was an odd smell in the lifts and some of the building

    6StaceyPosted on: 2-21-2026

Central location close to train station, pubs and shops.

Leisure facilities were very poor. Swimming pool was cold, jacuzzi was cold and steam room was out of order. The sauna worked but it was very small.

Location was excellent The bar areas were pleasant well maintained Staff were pleasant and attentive The rooms were well cleaned

I found the beds a bit uncomfortable , too softRooms were warm but there was no air con There was some noise from other residents

    7AmandaPosted on: 2-21-2026

Location great. Handy for the train station.

Large single glazed windows which let a lot of noise in from the main road.

    10JamesPosted on: 2-21-2026

Very close to station and city centre. Beautiful hotel and decor. Checked in at 5 pm was given a superior twin room, no windows and very dark, not a superior room. Went to complain as we were unhappy with the room as we were staying 2 nights. The hotel were fabulous and changed our room immediately. We were given 2 double rooms next to each other as no superior rooms left. Thank you so much for doing this and making our stay very enjoyable.

Stairs and noise due to rooms at front of hotel.

    The location

Staff weren’t helpful, had not hot water, was very loud

    3FionaPosted on: 2-21-2026

    Location handy

Very dated old , not cleanest Swimming pool freezing unable to use

    10DavidPosted on: 2-20-2026

It was a great location, the staff were incredible really nice place to stay.

Not a problem with the hotel but kids running up and down in a room above me untill 10pm and started again at 6am also the homeless begging right outside the door but again not a problem with the hotel as they cant control the people outside. Would still be coming back to stay again

    8CarolPosted on: 2-20-2026

The location, easiness to reach, size of the room was good, bed was huge, the old fashioned style of hotel, the unlimited usage of pool, sauna, jacuzzi etc

The bed was a bit too hard and not enough pillows

    9StokesPosted on: 2-20-2026

Convenience to city centre and train station. Traditional decor

Tape on carpet on 3rd floor when you come out of lift. Ruined the whole decoration and looked cheap

    10PaulPosted on: 2-20-2026

Excellent location. Ideal for local transport. Close to city centre and river. Nice bar too.Beautiful interior and staircases.

    5RebeccaPosted on: 2-20-2026

    Location

Very dark small rooms, no ventilation as windows do not open, creaky floorboards & the fact they take £100 deposit per room that takes quiet a while to go back into your bank

    7VaughanPosted on: 2-20-2026

    Central location

It’s a fantastic building, and it would be nice to think that there was a will to look after it better by the owners, the communal areas were all a bit faded, and looked they would benefit from a good clean, and attention to the period it was built and a recognition of its history

    1LisaPosted on: 2-20-2026

Staff were nice, breakfast was decent

The whole hotel seemed like it had not been refurbished or cleaned since the 1970s. It was so bad I felt like crying - everything was run down, old, dirty and sticky. I just wanted to go home. They did move me to a better room, but it was still fairly horrible. I would never stay there again.

    10JeffPosted on: 2-20-2026

The hotel is very central and literally yards from the railway station.

Having to pay extra for the leisure facilities

    8GeoffPosted on: 2-20-2026

Great location, friendly staff, brilliant breakfast. Rooms were clean and comfy. Good value, have used before and will use again

Paying £5 for the gym. I didn’t pay it the time before.

    9JewsonPosted on: 2-20-2026

Comfort and the quietness of the room even though it's next door to the train station. Definitely come again Josh was very professional and easy to talk to

Not being told about front entrance steps i am disabled so wife had to carry cases to reception
