Cons -
- Rotten wooden sash windows letting in cold draughts.Bathroom, nicely refurbished, but the basin had no plug and the shower didn't work. The shower was over the bath and the gadget that switches water from the bath to the shower head was missing.Whatever happened to essential regular maintenance through the season??
- Unfortunately the pictures on Booking.com are in no way whatsoever reflective of the rooms in the Royal Beacon Hotel. Even the reception staff did not recognise the images on booking.com. The location is good but the parking is impossible and most of the rooms don't have views at all. I did not stay and requested a refund which I am still chasing. Suffice to say this was the worst booking.com booking I have ever made.
- No restaurant for evening meals . We didnt want to drive in the dark so it was a long walk for us in the dark to find somewhere to eat.

Great location overlooking Exmouth seafront and just a few minutes walk to the town centre. The staff were super-friendly and helpful and the room large and comfortable.
It was ok disappointed in...
The room I booked online was not the room we got it was smaller so was not happy about that
I was given a lovely sea view room and it was a great location to get to the Pavilion and the station. The staff were very helpful and pleasant. I also got to have a bath which was lovely.
The side of the bath was loose, but that was all.
Location/sea viewGreat breakfastCute dog
Difficult shower controlsFew cobwebs
Location was ideal for what we needed. The staff were pleasant. Our room was modern and well furnished with everything you might need
Our room was clean but dusty like it might not have been occupied for a while. It wasn’t really an issue. The only issue we had is it was uncomfortably hot. There were no radiators on in the room and we couldn’t open the window. Luckily there was a fan. I think the heat was coming from the radiators in the hallway leading to the rooms.
Location good and breakfast good. Very helpful stFf

Location was excellent
Hotel in desperate need of decorating inside and out. The paintwork was scuffed inside and almost non existent on the side and rear of the property. The bathroom was in need of a deep clean. The grouting on walls and floor was pretty grim
Very friendly staff, allowed us to check in early and were on hand to help with questions and serve drinks in the bar later. The room was a good size, bedding clean and the bed comfortable, we both slept really well. There was a nice bar and plenty of comfortable seating areas. Breakfast was lovely, cereal, fruit juice and some pastries on the continental and then a cooked to order full English and toast, fresh coffee was also served. We enjoyed our stay and would book again as it was excellent value for money and the staff were fantastic.
Room decor was dated, the bathroom was in desperate need of an upgrade, (room213) Parking was terrible, very small car park only available to pre-book at £10 a night, on street parking was free but we struggled to find anywhere and ended up a couple of streets away. The staff were great through and allowed us to pull into the car park to unload/load luggage. The hotel is up a hill, so a bit of a walk down to the seafront, not easy if you have mobility issues, but very good for the views.
Location is good, views good easy to park in the road close by.Breakfast was good and served, which is a bonus.
Staff were friendly enough, if a bit weird and not very good. I wanted a soft drink in the bar and it was like a military operation to get it and it was expensive. Wanting ice made the operation even worse. Staff/ management didn’t seem to know how to work anything and had no real ability to converse.A bit of an issue when we said we wanted a table by a window. They used to do evening meals, but don’t now. We were there one night and it meant we needed to walk into town and find somewhere to eat.The front gardens, which used to be great with a lovely view over the sea, are now overgrown, unkempt and dangerous to walk round. All the other front gardens oblong the road are well kept and attractive.
staff were extremely helpful
plumbing rather noisy but expected from older property
Friendly and extremely helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be returning next year.
The bar area was very quiet, no other people there although it had lovely surroundings and very comfortable. Also, a limited amount of choice for different drinks.
Great location. Room was large with comfortable bed. Towels and toiletries provided. Tea and coffee in room.
One of the glasses had a lipstick stain, so hadn't been washed between guests.
Apart from the first day,we didn't have to wait long for breakfast. The location was stunning, and I loved our room which overlooked a green area with the sea beyond on one side and the cliffs on the other. Our room was elegant. You could have sat in the bay window in a muslin dress and imagined you were Lizzie Bennett! The street on which the hotel is located has 4 blue plaques-Lord Byron,Lady Nelson,Ada Lovelace and 'Lady Bountiful' all lived there at some point in history. The hotel staff went above and beyond-and quickly. Emily was particularly helpful in lending us a portable heater. Exmouth is a great location for exploring. We did quite a lot of walking along the SW Coast Path and round the estuary. The swimming pool was useful on a wet day. We had no problem travelling around via the very efficient train service, but buses are also regular.
Breakfast was average. There could have been more choice of cereals( Granola perhaps?). The choice of cooked breakfast was fairly limited. Porridge might have been added.
Friendly, helpful staff. Lovely big room. Good supply of tea and coffee making facility. Lovely fresh towels and bedding. Comfortable bed. Excellent breakfast.
Shower not working properly so flooded the floor. Had to use lower shower head rather than overhead. Heated towel rail not working all the time. Bedside lamp not working.
Staff were excellent.Location to sea, restaurants and town centre was good.
Decor was a bit tired.
Friendly staff and comfortable room
Needs a bit of updating and fix the lift
Location, staff very good,
No draught beer as shown when we booked, parking is a big problem, the hotel is tired, it needs money spent on it, I feel it's missing out on coach tours, it would boost the income. There is quite a hill to climb whichever way you come back.
