    • The room has got quite high ceiling which makes it very cold at night as heater is not big enough to warm the room enough. The common kitchen is somewhat not clean

I have been in Malacuna before and I was extremely happy with everything especially the staff's communication skills, their help and politeness

On my arrival, the receptionist was young woman this time. She spoke with a sharp tone. She wasn't polite. But the gentleman who was at at the desk in the morning was very polite and helpful.

The location is very accessible, room and bed clean and tidy.

The location of the central kitchen is a bit stressfull to climb up to the last floor.

The room; good standard Heating good, shower good.Bed linen, towels good.First member of staff on arrival good, helpful. Artwork in roomnice touch.

Some staff on duty alone. A bitcurt! Thought b'fast incl.NO. I usually do but maybe button failed?! Staff advised b'fast is continental only, not that good!Better cafe down the road! I went to W'spoons Pub.Due to Maintenance on roads, train the hostel isn't best for walking. Buses at a distance and taxi charge was £8, BNSStaNOT £7 as advertised on the board in hostel. Staff dialled no.and handed me mobile! Ricketychair in bedroom, I informed the staff at check out. Maybe a TV and kettle could be provided in the bedrm. Thx, RC

The Malacuna is a lovely hostel that clearly prides itself on being a clean environment for all staying there. The staff were kind and friendly, offering great suggestions for food and drinks. Overall a wonderful experience.

I'd say the only thing to not like about The Malacuna is that the shower made me worried it was going to overflow possibly the pipes need unclogging.

For me one night staying it worth the price I spent.

Unfortunately I had the bad luck of having three people inside the bedroom snoring (really snoring) apart from this (these things happen and is not the hostel fault), I found the hostel a little noisy. The bathroom inside the bedroom was on maintenance and I had to use one quite far from the bedroom. I personally don’t recommend to take the breakfast.

The space overall was really good. I like the lobby and the atmosphere. The hallways, lounge, and other community spaces were also good. The manager was good and most of the staff.

I did not like the male workers. They were very standoffish. The African American man's demeanor and communication were rude and not inviting. I think the other guy was of Middle Eastern descent. He was not welcoming at all. When I walked up to him a couple in the evening, he would look at me like, "What do you want?"After the 2nd time I just waiting until the morning for my communication with staff. I also HATED the fact that there was a massive lack of hot water. I had to stand and wait for the water to warm up or get hot a couple times. Then, when I spoke with the young lady she suggested that I can use the shared shower unit on the 1st floor and my space is on the 2nd floor. We spend lots of money to be here, why do I have to travel to take a shower instead of the company fixing the hot water system.

Clean, very quiet, quick to check in,warm in rooms and big roomy bathroom..in a great trendy area

Difficult to get the hot water just tight in the shower..No towel or mat on floor outside shower so stepping out of shower is a real slip hazard

For a hostel this was superb: by far the nicest hostel in England that I have stayed in.Everywhere was spotless, furnshings (including the bed) were comfortable, storage and the sleeping area was well-designed, and the bathrooms were not freezing!

The beds are really comfortable you feel like you have space and storage for the things tlyou need.

They only have 1 female only room! I feel more comfortable in a female only room and they didn't have the space.

    3NiamhPosted on: 1-4-2026

    Staff were nice and helpful

The sheets weren’t clean, the room was freezing cold, no hot water in the shower, the window in the bathroom made you visible to the workmen right outside the window.

Intially booked a bed in a shared room. It was comfortable and clean. TBH I've been here before in 2023 and liked the privacy aspect of it despite being in a dorm. The dorm has its own curtains, light and etc. Had a hiccup which resulted in a free upgrade to a private room which was even better, large, spacious and clean also, staff we're brilliant. The hostel is freaking huge as I later discovered, clean and without a doubt one of the best hostels I've stayed at.

    4OwenPosted on: 1-1-2026

    The bed was comfortable

I ordered a hotel with private bathroom and it was like being in a jail cell with shared toilet and bathroom. The room had a bed, a small old dirty table and 2 tables either side with lamps and a mirror.
