About
Located in the center Wells, which is often described as England’s Smallest City, The White Hart Inn is just a 2-minutes walk from the famous Cathedral Green and Bishops Palace. This 15th Century inn with rooms has 15 bedrooms with attached bathroom raging between a king or super king beds. The rooms also have tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and bathroom amenities. The hotel is an ideal base from which to discover historic Wells and the surrounding areas of interest in Somerset. Bristol, Bath, Glastonbury, Cheddar, Clarks Village, Bath and West Showground, Wookey Hole and Longleat are all close by. We have reopened our kitchen sourcing ingredients from a 30 mile radius from the White Hart, and everything is made fresh in house! Being a Grade 2 listed building in the beautiful City Center of Wells we have a limited footprint which doesn’t allow us to have parking on site, however, we can recommend various long stay car parks only a 5 minute walk on foot from our front door.

Pros +
- Lovely building in a lovely town, with friendly staff, great food, and recently renovated rooms. Great value for the price, too!
- The staff was professional and helpful. Breakfasts were quite good, and an evening meal in the restaurant was also excellent. The location is excellent. We appreciated the hotel's attention to environmental concerns. Wi-fi was fine.
- They don’t offer parking BUT in the confirmation they included recommendations for car park that was easy to access and a short walking distance. That was very helpful.
Cons -
- I urge caution when it comes to parking. Our car, small and properly parked, was damaged by some other vehicle while parked, and we are out 500 pounds, which hopefully we will eventually get back from insurance. The space is tight, and it's risky.
- My husband didn’t like the noise from the bar entertainment at nigh. I didn’t think it was a problem and slept through it.
- We had no dislikes. If you plan to stay here, note that the White Hart is not, and does not want to be, a Hampton Inn. You will certainly find a hair dryer and the usual toiletries in the room. But do not expect an iron and ironing board, a room safe, or digital locks. The free internet is also spotty at the rear of the property.

Breakfast is a proper English breakfast. Bravo. The location, across the street from the Cathedral Green, is superb. Most of all, the staff was incredible. During our stay, I had an accident and broke an ankle. The staff organized a move from our room at the top of the stairs to a comparable room (nicer actually) on the ground floor, kindly moved all of our luggage for us while we were at the hospital, and installed a ramp over the two steps up to the ground floor entrance to make it easier for us. Ty, Kaitlyn, and Shelly are exemplary staff members and great human beings.

Location was great.Staff were friendly and helpful.
The mattress topper was VERY LUMPY.I was surprised that there was no hand soap in the bathroom.
Great location, staff and a superb breakfast.
The heating in our room was not working. we reported it to a staff member who tried twice to fix it. In the end he couldn't but gave us a portable heater which meant we were more than warm enough
Good location . Helpful staff
Broken floor tiles in the bathroom and tired carpets
Location however no car parking space
Extremely disappointing and unprofessional. We were met with an unwelcoming and confusing check-in. We booked for three people, but the property tried to charge an additional £25 for the third guest upon arrival. When we presented our confirmation email, which showed no extra fees for the third person, the staff then blamed Booking.com and made an unprofessional comment about how guests don't complain about extra charges for their dogs, so we shouldn't either. There was no apology for the misunderstanding. It really spoiled our experience.
The staff were really friendly, food was great. Also best night sleep we have had in ages. Will definitely stay again.
As a woman I like a place where I can do my hair and make up tidy, but I find a lot of hotels don’t cater for that. Also would have preferred a shower.
Built in the time of the Tudor Henry VII, full of character yet facilities modern; well-decorated and sympathetically restored. Quiet even though right in the city centre. Food good, bars nice, and music on many nights. Could not hear the music in the room which was great.
WiFi was poor, but didn't really need it with so much live entertainment plus top-quality sightseeing on the doorstep.
Friendly staff lovely room
We had two drinks in the bar. My husband had a draft beer. I ordered an aperol spritz. Your female server said they didn’t have this drink but have your own version. I said okay. She brought over a very large drink. Our bill came to $29 Canadian. FOR TWO DRINKS! She never asked or told us the drink would be more. We didn’t realize this until we tapped our card to pay. Your other young man on staff was terrific and helped arranged a fair price taxi ride back to Wells the next morning. Great stay but felt taken advantage of with this drink situation so would not go back or recommend your place.
A great place to stay on a weekend away in Wells. At the heart of the town, there was a warm welcome from staff, a comfortable room at a bargain price, excellent food and coincidentally a great night of live jazz.
Nothing comes to mind.
Comfy bed and good towels and bedding
The room was very much in need of a refurbishment including the bathroom. The pub downstairs is fairly grim which sets the tone. The kitchen, which I could see from where we sat for breakfast was not clean.
Exceptional room, really big comfy bed. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Beer was really good
Situation
Parking. Parked in the Waitrose car park overnight. Moved the car to collect the cases - parked in the loading bay ( large) up the road from the hotel. Sunday morning. The staff didn’t know whether it was safe or not. It wasn’t. Got a £70.00 ticket. I shall appeal.
Staff could not have been more helpful. My partner and I wanted to get ready at the hotel before attending a wedding close by, and the staff were able to make this possible for us.
It was slightly noisy until quite late at night, but this is not the hotel's full responsibility. I also didn't realise until after leaving that we should have had breakfast included, but we were not made aware of this.
Wonderful room in a beautiful medieval building, great views of the old town and cathedral, great breakfast, lovely pub with a wonderfull selection of ales and ciders.
Great location, very comfortable bed
Unfortunately parking is a ten minute walk away, whilst fully understand that due to its location there is no parking it could be sub optimal if you had mobility issues.
This was our 2nd stay and would definitely return. We chose a different room this time which suited us better as not in main building and arrived when there was a downpour. The manager who checked us in was so helpful and friendly and advised us to move our car to their parking so we could unload and we were able to do so when leaving too. They told us on arrival what events they had on too which was really helpful. Couldn't ask for a better location and private parking was only a 5 min walk away.
Nothing really, as we had a room outside the main building, this was much better than our last visit and will be booking again on our next visit
