- Hospitality of the staff, the food, and parking facility
- If you are coming to Bath, you must stay at The Bear. It is one of the most luxurious, comfortable, and friendly hotels we have experienced in the UK. We stayed in a Superior King room, which was one of the largest rooms we’ve seen by UK standards. It was beautifully decorated with great attention to detail — from the warm lighting to the radio playing as you check in, and even the charming bathtub. The room was spotless, warm, and extremely comfortable. Our friends stayed in a Deluxe King room, and it was absolutely stunning — almost like a studio apartment. It was very spacious, beautifully decorated, and featured a large bathroom with both a gorgeous shower and a bathtub. The ladies at reception were lovely, welcoming, and very informative. The food at the pub was also delicious. After staying in many small hotels around the UK, this place truly felt like ultra-luxury. We honestly wished we could have stayed for a few more days.
- Room was comfortable; Staff friendly; and the restaurant had great food. The serving staff was friendly, too. Many locals were there for Rugby and music. You know it’s a good place when the locals hang there! :)
Cons -
- sometime the noise from outside
- Nothing to do with the facility. It was not in town, so a bit of a walk to Bath City Center. The hill coming back up was a workout. But we chose this place for its convenient parking and restaurant, knowing we’d be coming in late.

Easy to find great welcome so will return. Nice room over carpark so felt secure for that too. Weather was to poor to use balcony but there's always next time.....Breakfast was fab to so will try dinner nextBears every where a marvellous theme
Smokers must like that room with balcony and you cannot mask over that XWhere the complementary bear to buy would made a fine keepsake but no!
Room nicely decorated and huge bathroom with good water pressure. Comfortable queen bed, though there was ample room for a king. Good room let down by entrance and surrounds.
Terrible entrance from a pub carpark into a non existent reception. View into next door was a slum.
Location was great for going into Bath Centre. The room was comfy and the bathroom was very clean.
Breakfast was a disappointment. The cost was high for essentially a pub with rooms.
Food and accomodation excellent, breakfast really good and bar food very tasty, Staff were really friendly and welcoming. We couldn't fault it would definitely stay there again.
A charming place with everything you could ask for. First-rate room with en suite bath and soaking tub. The pub was busy and lively, with good, fresh food and a warm ambience. Staff was very friendly and helpful.
The only downside of this inn is that it is a little far from downtown, meaning a long walk or taxi ride to get to the tourist areas. We chose to leave our car in the free parking lot, so we accepted the need to make it into town by other means.
Everyone was very nice Food was great. Cozy place
There were ants in my room. Other than that it was ok. Not great. Not bad. Just ok.
The staff was exceptionally warm, friendly and helpful. The food was good — I loved my vegetarian English breakfast. The location is nice — in a quieter part of Bath. You can walk up ten minutes to Alexander Park, a beautiful park viewpoint overlooking the city. Room and bed were comfortable. The inn has a local feel.
It was a bit rustic. You have to carry the luggage up a flight of stairs— no elevator. It was difficult to adjust the hot/cold water.
Helpfulness of the staff, breakfast was good. Room well appointed.
I would like for breakfast to have been included.
Quiet, free car park. We did not get the breakfast, but the restaurant was pretty good. Refrigerator and espresso machine was nice to have. There’s a convenience store across the street, but it was having delivery problems. About a 15-20 minute walk into town. Easy going down, not too bad coming back up. Staff was very nice.
It would get very warm at night. Odd to have to turn on the AC when it’s cold outside.
Almost everything
Too far from the centre of Bath and a very steep walk. Bus at door.
Decor, size and cleanliness of bedroom and bathroom, location was accessible and convenient. Staff were friendly and helpful!
There was an issue in getting the coffee machine to work. We managed to get one coffee out of it but then only got hot water the other times we triend
Fantastic hotel, amazing staff and in a fabulous location. The bear restaurant was also superb.Lovely touch with free bottled water and biscuits. A real gem.
Breakfast menu not great. No cold breakfast menu (no cornflakes or any cereals “at all” on offer!! Just a small menu. :- BACON NOT FRESH- So hard and pre- cooked/then heated up the next day…. Couldn’t cut it, never mind bite into it!!
BREAKFAST MENU- NOT GREAT
The hotel far exceeded our expectations. The room offered everything you could need, more so than some larger more costly hotels. The staff were awesome. Thanks Tom, Claire, Gi-Gi and Sue. They couldn’t have made us feel more welcome. The food/bar facilities were great. Free parking. Transport into the City Centre by bus was right outside the hotel and was just few minutes ride away. We would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to visit the beautiful City of Bath.
The room was lovely - really comfortable, tastefully decorated and well equipped. It's unusual to find somewhere that actually does look like the pictures! It was also quiet and the bed was very comfortable. We were genuinely really impressed.
Very convenient for getting into Bath - bus stop right outside hotel - also a free car park at the back of hotel Downside to the location was the noise - to be expected on a main road - our room was facing the car park but could still hear road traffic or latecomers into the car park. Minor detail really - could close windows and maybe request a fan.
