Pros +
- Location excellent and breakfast very good.I know the staff are young but they were all a bit confused at breakfast and the young man looked like he hadnt showered for days and could do with a hair cut
- Great location. Rooms are clean and simple - no frils but you are not paying for frills. Night porter is there which is reassuring. Lovely helpful staff. Friendly and kind. Good breakfast and good value for money.
- The location, by the station and close to the cricket ground.
Cons -
- very noisy outside at night due to the location, but that isnt your fault
- The wi-fi was very bad. I had to ask for butter at breakfast.
- Noisy works underway at the station which continued to midnight. Despite the fact that the hotel wasn’t full, and the works were underway when I arrived, I was given a room at the front of the hotel at the end nearest the work. The hotel has single glazing and the noise was invasive

Very convenient for the station.

Location was great, very clean, large room and bathroom with natural light and could open the window, liked the decor and staff very friendly and helpful. Generally enjoyed my stay, felt quite comfortable.
Suggestions really for improvement - Some of the room layout could be better, need wardrobe space even if an open wardrobe. The coat hooks in my room were placed so one was too near a wall so unusable. The basins in the bathrooms are too small so water goes over the floor, enough room there to have a larger basin. The shower is ok but a flexible hose would be much better and water again goes over the floor. The windows need replacing but like how large they are and how light the rooms are,Breakfast was not great, ran out of yogurt pots too early, couldn't have poached eggs and generally overcooked. It would be nice to be able to eat there in the evening or at least have a drink. The staff were helpful and friendly but perhaps a little more training in customer relations. An idea to stay in one of the rooms and see it from a customer viewpoint, look at the layout of the furniture and also have some information about the recycling and tv.
Breakfast was a good value.
Disappointed in the black pudding (it was not served hot), so we skipped it for the remainder of the stay.
Excellent location for getting into the town & to the canal. Breakfast was exceptional Staff were all very helpful & accommodating It was nice to be able to help the YMCA cause
Nothing to dislike at all
Interesting building and pleased to see it was a social enterprise for the YMCA. Staff generally very helpful.
Only a few minor details!
Lovely welcome from staff as ever. We've stayed 4 or 5 times before. Comfy, cosy room. Great shower. Super choice at breakfast time.
Needs a little maintenance on the window sashes which were broken on both windows. Now offering a drop in breakfast, which resulted in a very busy morning on the last day of our 5 night stay, good for business, but little choice of where to sit for us, not ideal eating cooked breakfast on a low settee, but we managed. Suggest maybe could have a nominated time/reserved table for residents in the dining room.
The staff were very accommodating & friendly. The windows were rotting, the paint work cracked, the toilet seat didn’t fit the toilet, the bathroom door latch didn’t work so there was no privacy, the toilet roll holder broke, the wardrobe consisted of metal hangers on 3 pegs on the wall, there was only 1 chair for a deluxe room & nowhere else to sit & the hairdryer only blew out cold air! This was a very, very expensive deluxe double room that was sub standard. It wasn’t worth the money.
Great location. Parking available. Close to town. Room very comfortable. Staff were fantastic.
Hotel is run by a charity that employs apprentices - so staff are all friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great in the morning, rooms are clean and well kept. Great for train enthusiasts with the station across the road and the theme running throughout the hotel. Good location with parking, water pressure in our room was great.
It's a shame the restaurant isn't open in the evening but it's a short walk into town and restaurant facilities are available to use if you order in.
A genuine welcome from every member of staff. A simple an honest hotel in a beautiful hotel in a fantastic location.
No double glazing. Good WiFi.
Brilliant location just opposite the station entrance. The hotel maintains the character of its glory days as a Great Western Railway hotel. Sensitively renovated the room was comfortable and airy with an impressive large bathroom. Very good breakfast provided by young apprentices. Very capable and friendly staff..
Nothing for my taste. It might not suit those who want fully modernised luxury but the comfortable, sensible, practical style and good value appealed greatly to me.
Friendly staff
No milk with the teas and coffee in the room and too early checking out time. I would expect more for £140 a night.
As a single woman having to wait outside after ringing the bell in the early hours of the morning felt unsafe. This is the only reason I would not stay again. Otherwise it was a nice place to stay.
The hotel was clean, tidy and well maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was big and spacious with a comfy bed.The full English breakfast was lovely and filling.
Great location. Literally outside the station. Clean, well kept, The bed was very good best nights sleep in a while.
The toilet lid wasn't properly secured but not the end of the world.
Breakfast was lovelyStaff vey helpful Room large but needs refreshing
Rock hard pillows Unable to open windows/broken sashesBeing woken up at 3am Sunday and Monday morning by train workers moving/removing equipment and the use of lorries reversing or beeping loud tail lifts as no double glazingVery thin toilet roll
Brilliant location--bang opposite Taunton StationHaving tea and coffee facilitiesEasy shower to manipulateThe fact that they let me drop my bag at reception before 'clocking in' time
One member of staff was not too happy about non-guests drinking in the bar in the evening, though there were noother customers aboutThe breakfast was good, but I didn't see any berries/fruit/yoghurt to enhance the cereal bowlSignage outside hotel needs improving
