Location: Very central and conveniently located right next to Waverley Station.Bed Placement: I was in a bottom bunk at the far end of the room, which felt private as no one was facing me.Staff Response: When I found someone else's belongings on my assigned bed, the staff sent an attendant with fresh sheets quickly.Verdict: I only stayed here because a last-minute tour change made other prices skyrocket. Having stayed at St Christopher’s in other European cities, I am consistently disappointed, maybe 1/5 stays has been good. I would not stay here again and wouldn't recommend it unless you have no other choice.

Confusing Check-in: The check-in desk is in a separate building across the street from the hostel entrance. There were no clear signs, so I was stuck outside until I called them.Room Issues: I was initially assigned a bed that was already occupied by another guest's belongings. While the staff fixed the sheets, the overall room felt untidy due to other guests.Cleanliness & Hygiene: The bathrooms were unacceptable. Out of the two toilets and showers for a large dorm section, one sink was blocked and filled with spit, and one shower only produced freezing, intermittent water that cut off every 3 seconds. I couldn't even wash my face or shower properly.Hidden Costs: Unlike other hostels in Edinburgh, they charge for luggage storage. The fee varies by locker size (bigger or smaller bag) and time, so I ended up taking my bags elsewhere to save money, which was offered for free.

Couldn't get closer to the railway station. Great bar and food close by. Beds have curtains

Friendly staff, clean facilities, buffet breakfast time ranging from 7am-10am was convenient (just cold options available, but a very good value for money).

Need more hangers in shower rooms

Loved it! Location was perfect & hostel was clean. Also always appreciate the privacy curtains on the bed.

A little to cold in the room

    5RebeccaPosted on: 1-26-2026

    The location was fabulous

The noise from other guests and the toilets weren't clean.

I booked a room for someone else, and he had an expired driver’s licence as ID, and he was turned away.

The policy that led to him turned away, was unfair and not logical.

The dorms were really good with the underbed lockers. The best part was that the dorms and the washorooms were too clean. The quick checkout option really did save a lot of time.

Nothing in specific. But, it would be nice if you please provide shower gels in the showers. And also, if you could install a cabinet or a table to place bags or towels in the shower area.

    9GeetalPosted on: 1-21-2026

Staff is very helpful. Rooms were clean and peaceful.

There were 2 washrooms shared by more than 12+ people… that’s not good I have to wait for an hour to get it vacant.

You get what you pay for staff was welcoming atmosphere a good cheap deal for a couple of days trip

Not enough cushion, other guests was extremely load to a point i paid extra to go private room so I could get better sleep

I liked the central location of the hotel right in the middle of Old Town Edinburgh and just a minutes walk away from the train station and Royal Mile. The staff were friendly and there were plenty of activities to do in and around the hostel. One thing I wish I knew was that you had to separately purchase basic amenities like a lock, towel, and specific travel adaptor to charge your phone and other devices since they had a block in the wall where you would otherwise charge up. Good hostel for the most part overall.

I hated the prices. I went during the annual Fringe Festival and ended up paying around $110 USD per night which was completely unacceptable for the quality of the room and amenities granted to me that I would feel more comfortable paying half the grand total for. It was not worth more than $50 a night on the higher end for a 12 bunk bed room shared with other loud guests with no curfew.

There is no better location for exploring the Old Town! Great value vs. price. I was a bit unsure when booking 8 bed mixed dorm but my roommates happen to be very open minded travellers, clean and tidy so no issues at all. I felt safe and made some new friends.

I'm always very demanding but honestly there is nothing I can say was problematic. Maybe only there could be more hooks to hang the clothes/towel in the shower.

Great location, close to train station. But yeah -- it's a hostel -- no frills or luxuries, just minimalist beds and small bathrooms.

It was fine. Like I said, it's a hostel, so you can't decide who else is staying in your room, and whether or not they'll come back from a night partying at 3 or 4 am. It's just the way it is!

    6JamesPosted on: 1-19-2026

Can’t beat the location! Clean hostel and good value overall. Belushi’s, the bar owned by the hostel, also had good food in a nice atmosphere. The continental breakfast at £5 prepaid was also a good value.

This is definitely a High volume hostel, with an oppressive atmosphere to the hostel itself. With its numbered, heavy, metal doors to each room in a bright, fluorescent-lit hallway devoid of other decor, it also felt like a prison.

    Good value for money

I booked for an all female hostel, in the middle of the night. a group of men came in without notice and same did staff.
