- I like the concept and decor of the place. Staff is top notch-- professional, friendly and accommodating.
- Staff was very friendly. That’s about it. The rest of our stay was not enjoyable and we left early due to unsanitary, unclear conditions that caused a health and safety issue. Staff worked with us to get some of our money back, but not all despite this being an issue others seem to have dealt with on Reddit.
Cons -
- Very small room
- Unfortunately this is a non-smoking property and yet someone was smoking. I'm deadly allergic to smoke. Imagine waking in the middle of the night with your lungs closing up on you. Not pleasant.
- The rooms at this hotel are strategically photographed to look much larger than they are. The first night we stayed at house of gods, we booked one of their smaller rooms— it was the size of an actual closet, and most of the room was taken up by the bed, which was only a double. We realized there was no real window inside— just a box with an electric light behind it, and no lock on the door, which creeped me out. We decided to stick it out because we’d be going to the large suite with the bathtub pictured on their website for the remainder of our stay. We were so excited, but immediately when we opened the door, the overwhelming smell of mold, mildew, and scent diffusers hit us so hard that when the door closed and the staff member who escorted us to the room left, I looked at my husband and even he— who barely has a sense of smell— asked what we should do. The bathtub being in a room with velvet walls and curtains isn’t exactly the best recipe for cleanliness, I think, and we observed mildew in the shower room. The air conditioner broke, and they made a weak attempt to fix it by pressing a few buttons and bringing us glasses of Prosecco. In fact, any time any issue arose, glasses of Prosecco were delivered. We had 6 glasses of untouched Prosecco by the end of our one night stay. We ended up staying one night and asked for our money back for the remaining two nights, because we both woke up coughing from the smell and I woke up with hives on my face, as I’m allergic to mold. When we went down to talk to the front desk, another customer was complaining about misrepresentation of the size of the rooms as well. After some negotiation we only got a third of our money back. The staff was very friendly but the facility honestly is not clean, and the labyrinthine dark halls felt akin to a prostitution ring. I sincerely wish I could write a good review for the sake of the staff but I would absolutely not waste your money at this influencer scam of a hotel.

Very cozy, comfy room and bed. Romantically lit, well designed for the size of the room which is roughly 7’ x 12’. Staff are fantastic. Solid sound isolation for a nice night’s sleep and hotel bar is sexy. Location is fantastic.
Room is small. Bathroom is a wet room that gets very wet and steamy without a fan but otherwise is a serviceable bathroom. Heated bathroom floors are a nice touch that helps with the Scottish weather.
Clean, wonderful staff, quiet, great location
Although I read it in the reviews, the rooms are small even for a solo traveler. But, I loved the ambiance.
The decor and vibe was great. Just as described.
The light switches were a little odd and hard to figure out. Also the hair dryer was terrible. For the price of the hotel the hair dryer should be a little nicer. Especially if they want to be competitive in the market.
Very niche, very kitsch. How can one not stay in the House of the Gods when given the opportunity? I was handed a glass of wine as soon as I walked up to check in. Was given a buzzer to order milk and cookies and/or wine after 10PM and before 1AM. And they were good cookies! The room was very boudoir opulent, had a hidden TV, and gets no phone signals. None. It was like being in a faraday cage of red velvet, gold tassles, and chocolate chip cookies.
Watching the staff was like watching a telenovela unfold. I slept through both checkouts because my phone died looking for a signal overnight. Pricey. Overly pricey for the property, you're paying purely for the kitsch. Staff communicates via WhatsApp, which can be convenient if your room wasn't a dungeon of lost service.
Unique and fun
Small room and bathroom was a set room so the toilet and floor was wet after a shower for a while after you used it
Great location.
Room was smaller than we expected. When luggage was open, our door was blocked so that we couldn't get out, even in the event of a fire. That made us feel unsafe.
The location is good, just up the hill to the Royal Mile. The room was interesting and fun. I appreciated the darkness of the room for sleeping.
The room was small. Between luggage and the bed and other furniture, there is not much room to move around the room. I was only there for 1 night, so it wasn't that much of a big deal. Had I been staying longer, I would have found it more challenging.
Very interesting rooms. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The location was great
There was a musty smell on the first floor. Our rooms were on the second floor and not an issue
The location was great. Not on the Royal Mile, which during the festival was a good thing. The staff was amazingly helpful, especially when we had some difficulties with transportation. The daily breakfast and champagne was amazing.
It was a very unique and creative property. You could tell that done a great deal to announce the experience. Of making it look whole time Victorian era.
You have to be careful about the room you order because if your order is a regular room, it is going to be tiny comfortable Pat if you wish something larger, you need to upgrade and they would gladly do that for you
The staff was wonderful! The bed was very comfortable. The welcome drink was great!
The smell was strong and strange in the hallway. The rooms are very tiny and the bathroom is basically the shower. Not horrible! But hard with a large suitcase and getting around.
Walking distance to all sights! Convenient location. The extra touches (breakfast basket, milk and cookies, and prosecco) were fun and appreciated!
Room was quite small- comfortable, but tight
The staff were great and very helpful. They brought my heavy bag up the stairs to my 2nd-floor room. I ended up at the hospital before I checked out. They brought my bags to the hospital, which was fantastic. Can't say enough about how that helped me.
The room was very dark, and I got lost trying to find my way down the corridor to leave the hotel. Very dangerous.
The location was good. Staff were friendly and responded quickly on what’s app.
We got the Treat me like I’m famous package for an extra £120 on top of our £160 mid-week one night stay. Room was absolutely tiny, no room to store your things at all. No windows and the room had a stale smell from arrival, pretty disgusting to think fresh air had never been inside that space! Or any of the other rooms. Photos online are very deceiving, bed was super tiny, tiles in shower room were warped and sink had a huge crack. Shower room means water got everywhere and steamed up the tiny bedroom with no window to open. Cocktails & Prosecco were awful! Breakfast was some past its best yoghurt with stale croissants, and the mimosas genuinely tasted off. We were both so excited for a luxurious night away in a swanky hotel but the reality was it’s a tiny cramped office style building been decorated to look like a brothel. The place felt dirty, with no fresh air inside at all no natural lights and half the lights in the corridors weren’t working so very hard to see. Actually quite impressed at how well they have managed to market this hotel online to be classy and upmarket because the reality was anything but. Avoid!! Wish we spent the money on somewhere else or even just a travel lodge down the road, it would have been much less claustrophobic!
A nightmare. Dark, tiny room with minut smelly bathroom
Room tiny. Broken bathroom door handle so couldn't get out of bathroom which was so small you could sit on the toilet and take a shower at the same time.Had to move small chair to bathroom for space to move. Breakfast was a basket in room without bread where you had to stand up to eat.
The place was very clean, the ambiance was amazing with really nice ideas to have that misterious speak-easy feeling. Great cocktails too.
A/C was not working, and the room did not have any windows. The bed was very small for me, I am 6.2 and could not stretch out my legs.
The beds (mattresses and pillows) were so comfortableYou didn't really want to get up out of bed. The lush fabric on the walls and drapery around the beds. I really gave the room a luxurious vibe. The staff were outstanding, friendly and hospitable and very professional. The milk and cookies delivery by the push of a button was the cherry on top!
We were in a double room and it was still quite tight/ small, and i've never really been fond of the shower/ toilet/ sink in one small area, because no matter what everything gets wet, including the toilet paper. It was also a bit tricky finding our room and leaving our room, because the hallways are maze-like.
