There aren’t enough toilets and showers, so it can get quite busy during peak times.

Reasonably good location, and they do provide towels but... Couldn't get any as they were out then

Hygiene can be better, also there could be odd times no towels for guest.. think better to issue at checkin then to ffa.Super hard to find too.

Location is awesome. Walking distance to many of the cities sites. Comfortable beds, lovely dorm rooms, clean. Cute shared space.

The staff is a bit much. Their care sort of felt like older sibling trying to be nice. A bit overbearing, a bit off-putting. One example, we were clearly washing dishes so to keep the place tidy and had a couple pots and two bowls. A staff member stood off to the side, an arms length away, and stared at the sink. When telling her we had just a few more to do, she finally said something along the lines of, “it’s okay I’ll just wait” - but with an annoyed tone, or what we interpreted as annoyed. Pretty small example, but just enough to be irksome.

The location is just perfect, right next to the city center. The staff is also amazing, they try to help you every time they can. If you're looking for a social place, you want to take part in some events and socialize with other cool international people, I can definitely recommend it!

A bit rough around the edges in regard to shower facilities and bathroom availability. Beds are just foam, so if you need more support, this isn't for you.

The location is excellent and the facilities work fine. Easy check in and check out.

The lockers are an awkward shape and I couldn't fit my luggage in it. It is also an old building on a busy street so it stays quite loud during the nights.

I liked the location of the hostel overall, however you could hear music nice and clearly from the bar at night, but otherwise it was quiet for the most part. They were big on safety!

They weren’t big on the events happening with the two other sister hostels, but they did do a movie night. Not sure if that was for staff only or not. One guest snored really really loudly one of the nights I stayed. The showers were really small.

Great location. 5 min walk to grocery store. Good kitchen. Workers were very helpful. Sister hostel was pretty nice and offered more experiences. Free bag storage at sister hostel.

Staff decided to randomly clean and vacuum at 8pm when people were eating and cooking food. Not very social despite the small size. Was a clear clique of the workers hanging out, more so dominating the spaces. No men’s bathroom. Just women’s and all gender.

The hostel is in a great location close to most of the places you will be visiting. I shared a room with 7 people but everyone was quiet and nice. The bathroom was clean and there is free wifi as well as free coffee and tea.

There is an Indian restaurant next door which made the entrance area smell like spices and food. The rooms luckily had no smell but its unfortunate. The shower room was quite small and i couldnt find the light switch easily.

The staff were friendly and the hostel felt extremely safe!

The location was excellent & the staff were very friendly & helpful. Good value for the money.

They are very organized, and it’s good to know that the staff there are volunteering. Their check-in card provided me with discounts at various pubs around the Royal Mile.

Great social hostel in the centre of Edinburgh, close to bars and restaurants. Beds were comfortable enough. Lots of activities to participate in.

No curtains around the bed

The hostle is nicely located only a few min walk from the train station on the famous Royal Mile street. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The hostle is well organised, clean and confortable. The staff even helped me with food recommendations, information regarding the buses, and view points in and around the city.

The very central location on the royal mile street makes the nights a bit uncomfortable due to all the pubs and bars nearby. We couldn't close the windows because it was too warm and opening them let in a lot of street noise. I used ear plugs but it was still a bit hard to fall asleep.

Shared room, had to leave the window open as it was too hot, none of the roommates were able to sleep at all due to the hot and noise. Guess you get what you paid

The location is great: walking distance from Royal Mile, but also not right in the midst of the super-touristy part of the strip. The staff were super friendly and helpful, and there are great tips of access to different spots throughout the hostel. The bedding was also very comfy for a hostel! Also, extremely LGBTQ+ inclusive!

This is not on Royal Mile, just that it is a hostel, so you may get some guests who are a bit nosier/inconsiderate in making a lot of noise in the earlier AM, but the staff does a great job of putting up reminders to be quiet!

It was very difficult to sleep as the room was very hot and smelly, so the window had to stay open and there is so much noise coming from outside (live music from bars next door, cars, people). They offer free earplugs but it's still noisy.The curtains were thin and not possible to keep the room dark.It would be nice if there was a shampoo/body wash dispenser in the showers, as there are in many hostels.

Royal Back Packers was a clean, friendly, convenient and economical place to stay.
