About
Right in the heart of Edinburgh’s historic Old Town, The Inn on the Mile offers guests a stylish stay in one of the city’s iconic historical landmarks. Located on the famous Royal Mile, the hotel is just a 10 minute walk from Edinburgh Castle, and an 8 minute walk from the Scott monument and picturesque Princes Street Gardens. Due to the listed status of the historic building, the hotel does not have a elevator/elevator and all rooms are accessed by stairs only as there are no bedrooms on the ground floor. All rooms are equipped with a large flat-screen TV, a work desk, free Wi-Fi, full tea and coffee making facilities along with some complimentary Scottish delicacies. All bedrooms also come with hair dryers, GHD hair straighteners, dressing gowns and luxury Aaran toiletries as standard. Downstairs, the bar and restaurant provides breakfast, lunch, dinner and all manner of drinks from a wide selection of Scottish single malts to bespoke cocktails. It also has a patio area outside so guests can enjoy a meal or a tipple sitting right in the heart of the Royal Mile. Waverley Train Station is only 2 minutes’ walk away from the Inn and Edinburgh Airport can be accessed via the Airlink bus service which runs every 10 minutes from the airport to the city center.

Pros +
- Very nice room and bathroom. Bed was very comfortable and nice linens.
- The room was amazing! The location was very convenient. Right in the middle of everything. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were great. I liked how the toilet room was different from the shower/tub room so two people could get ready at the same time
- Very kind staff that went above an beyond when there was an issue with my rooms curtains.
Cons -
- A little noisy at night being directly on the mile. Something we didn¿t consider on a week night. Lots of stairs to carry luggage up.
- The doors to the toilet room and shower room were frosted glass. It was a little awkward since I was staying with my daughter. We had banana splits from the pub on the bottom floor. They were good but did not feel like it was worth the money.
- The hotel is too expensive for what it offers, as several basic necessities were missing. There was no complimentary water, the heater wasn’t working, no toothpaste, and no hotel slippers provided. The floor was also dirty, which was disappointing. There is no lift, which can be inconvenient; however, one staff member kindly helped us carry our bags upstairs, which was the only bright spot.

Location!!! Room was perfect as well
The staff were friendly, and the location is good and feels safe. The rooms are new, but overall the value for money is poor.

Staff were extremely helpful and friendly, our room was lovely and clean with robes in the wardrobe. Excellent value for money. Will go again
The bathroom was very near our beds. No privacy
Great location.
The steps. I knew about them, i thought it would be ok, but 70 steps to our 2nd floor room was a lot.
Brilliant room! Position A1! The pub itself was sensational! Music both nights AND football on the big screens!!
We were in room 7, lots of stairs. But great for the exercise ?
The friendly staff, the room, the view, the pub, the location. They offered an early check-in (small fee), and also had a bag check so I could walk around town. I felt secure at night. The bar staff was kind enough to give me a glass full of ice to take up to my room. Pics are of Room 3
The window on the bathroom had a shade, but I still felt like you could still see in. It's a small enough window to be little concerned over. I stayed Saturday night during Fringe & Tattoo, so the noise level from the street was pretty rocking til about 3am. The thick windows were good at muffling the crowds
In the heart of the Fringe action, this Inn was an oasis. Well appointed and a pub on the main level - it had everything we needed.
The perfect location to visit Edinburg city center. A/C was nice to have during hot summertime
Tight space in bedroom & no way to turn off heated towel bar, right next to toilet in bathroom was very hot! For price & being part of restaurant breakfast could have been provided
The location is great - near the train station which was important for me. The room was clean and comfortable. The price was ridiculous but I couldn't find anything near the train station for less than 200 Euros a night other than half a bunk bed in a hostel.
The cost.
Location! And the staff at the Scotsman were very helpful.
The bathroom is not great for many reasons. Also, It was pretty cramped in the room- furniture was too large for the space. Lots of ruffians at the hotel door at all hours. Super loud outside throughout the night. Would have eaten at the restaurant but the service was not good.
The location of the hotel was perfect since I was mostly staying near the Royal Mile. It is literally in the middle, can't go wrong there! The only downside for me was I had a suitcase and a bag that I had to lug all the way to the top floor since there are no elevators, brutal after a 7.5 hour flight and no sleep. Otherwise, quite lovely!
Fantastic location, central to so many things. Lovely room. Very small hotel, not a lot of guests.
I would give this 10/10 if it had an elevator. Without that, 9/10.
The good: location, location, location.Location is exactly what we wanted and they delivered!
Housekeeping was not daily, nor was that advertised. When we asked for daily service, it still wasn’t done. This was highly disappointing. The bathroom was in poor repair, with loose bathroom tiles and poorly cleaned facilities.
beautiful location, comfortable room, great bathroom, great pub downstairs
no elevator
Great location. Nice and modern interior design.
No lift. The room is small
Lovely central location; great room - beds comfortable, beautiful bathroom with large bath, separate shower & double whb; coffee machine; GHD. Responded promptly to any queries & kept our bags safe while we explored the day of departure. Staff were friendly & courteous.
Pillows could do with being upgraded.
It was close to the train station and the festival theatre . The staff were very friendly and helpful.
