- So classy, clean, comfyThey had heated floors in the bathroom which is out of this world They have an unwinding service during the evening to prepare the room for sleep which is wonderful The staff are really healthy and friendly They answer the phone quickly and get you the things you need without any delay
- Great location Loved the staff and the kind gestures Very helpfulRoom was very luxurious and comfortable

Cons -
- A bit noisy from the streetRoom had no view window faced a literal wall
- In our first morning, we waited more than 45 minutes to have our breakfast. I made a booking through booking.com. During checkout i paid my outstanding and also upon arrival they authorized 100 pounds for 2 nights. Now, I am asking my deposit back, they answer me that during arrival the rates became high that is why they used my security deposit for the accommodation charges. It is very ridiculous because i have booking.com approved confirmation. Also 1 week after check out they charged me 4 pounds for the minibar usage. Why after 1 week? It means that our credit cards are not secure in this hotel and anytime anyone can use our credit cards.Additionally, during check out they are giving you the bill which shows 5%optional tips on accommodation :) It is weird, and embarrassing. It is a new kind of begging money from tourists.

The building, interior, furniture, and art are enchanting and very well thought. The entire staff were amazing, but a special shout out goes to Angus and Laura! We enjoyed our stay to the max and this amazing time we had.
Fantastic experience right from the minute we were welcomed in the entrance lobby by Douglas. The architecture in the building was amazing and the owners have given great thought to providing everything we needed.
Nothing!
Everything!! It was stunning from start to finish! Lovely and super friendly staff, beautiful style and decoration everywhere (lobby, bedroom, bathroom, breakfast area), absolutely fabulous breakfast (à la carte, which is true luxury!! much better than buffet), great atmosphere with lovely flowers and even an Easter chocolate egg in our bedroom with a handwritten note (amazing!!), perfect location. We loved everything!!
Everything was perfect!
Fantastic stay at the townhouse. Similarly to Gleneagles, the staff are wonderful and the attention to detail is superb. Every little thing they have thought of makes the stay that bit better. The food is also fabulous and good value for money, as are the mini bar prices. I don’t believe they are ripping you off, especially considering you’re in central Edinburgh. The history of the building is fascinating and the hotel itself is immaculate. I would absolutely recommend and hope to stay again!
Beautiful hotel very exceptionally renovated Every detail to your stay has been thought about Comfortable Beds, luxury bed linen,Very clean and decorated to a high standard Great roof top terrace The customer service is excellent, every member of staff is so warm welcoming and professional you feel so looked afterLocation is perfect for every aspect of Edinburgh I could say so much more but go experience for yourselves and enjoy hotel heaven
Exceptional breakfast and rooms are to die for. Staff went above and beyond!
They have a gorgeous spa and gym area however the infra red light sauna is disappointing - it is tepid at best. Lockers in the gym also did not work. I was given the gym class timetable before arrival and also upon arrival - this was completely different to the schedule in practice which was frustrating as I couldn't plan.
Wonderful location, spectacular room and restaurant, best staff. 11/10
This hotel has really helpful staff and great facilities. The breakfast was lovely.
Excellent breakfast and the staff were great, in particular (sorry I didn’t catch his name) the bald gentleman with black framed glasses who was so kind and attentive without being overbearing. The breakfast food was also 10/10. Thank you to Irina too at the main reception- set a great tone from the beginning and gave me so many incredible recommendations for my stay!Housekeeping was also excellent, the turndown service was very well done and it felt like coming home to a little calm oasis every evening.
I didn’t like that there wasn’t anywhere to sort of lounge without being in the main dining restaurant. I know the rooftop bar was an option but it was full of people with laptops in the daytime (library vibes) which also wasn’t the right atmosphere, and there was nobody serving at that bar when I went up anyway so it all just seemed set up for these laptop people with self service water set up on the bar. Also would’ve liked more information on how to access the spa/wellness area and what facilities were available.
Amazing stay. The room was beautiful, spacious and with a lovely freestanding bath. The location was perfect, everything was in walking distance; from Edinburgh Castle, Hollyrood to Restaurants & Bars. The staff were amazing throughout, big shout out to Mr Yeovil & Mr California, some great recommendations for where to eat, and super friendly.
The room was beautifully appointed and very comfortable
Breakfast was a disaster! The restaurant was closed, so breakfast was served in the club room upstairs. It took almost an hour for two portions of poached eggs on toast with avocado. They were NOT busy. They ONLY had tables of two guests or single guests. When our breakfast did arrive, it was without the eggs. It took a further 10 minutes (without exaggeration), to reappear with eggs, by which time I was no longer looking forward to it and didn’t have it, although my husband did have his. Considering all of the staff and management on display in the room, they sent the youngest and most inexperienced person to apologise for getting our order wrong. This was so very wrong of all of the more mature and experienced staff to do this to the poor young girl, who incidentally, handled the situation well, but was obviously awkward. The problem was blatantly obvious that it was with the kitchen or chefs. I even began to wonder if the chef had turned up that morning! No explanation was offered. When we checked out I was asked if we had enjoyed our stay, my response was ‘yes, but breakfast was a disaster’. No response was made, no reason was given, so why ask the question if you’re not interested in the response. From this aspect, the uncomfortableness of the situation was handled most unprofessionally. I didn’t expect a discount. Nor even an apology. But I did expect more from Gleneagles. You can’t expect to live off a name but not deliver for long, especially in a world where everyone is a critic. Finally, a suggestion with breakfast, especially when it’s a cooked breakfast that is ordered, it would be nice for it to be served on a warm plate, but even this was cold.
The room was large and the bed was extremely comfortable! The breakfast was delicious and service impeccable.
The restaurant was a little too warm
Location was very good.Room was quite small but comfortable.General Manager and Concierge staff were good and attentive.
Restaurant is an absolute disaster.Service is utterly abysmal. No restaurant management and leadership.Waiting staff are not attentive. They don’t notice an empty cup or glass. No offer to refill a drink. The staff seem to spend more time looking at tablets and computer screens instead of watching the room.It seems they have very regimented inefficient roles and responsibilities and it just doesn’t work.Bar staff have to prepare a glass of fruit juice instead of waiting staff.Restaurant bar staff were very slow and had no sense of expediency or duty. The F & B manager just didn’t seem to care, which clearly trickled down to the other restaurant staff.Breakfast itself was very average, not a patch on breakfast service at the Balmoral.
Staff and Ambiance both very welcoming. Service excellent. Bedroom very comfortable
Really good central hotel. Luxurious with amazing staff. Everything is very sumptuous without ever feeling stuffy or uncomfortable
My only complaint is perhaps a more comfy lounge area to have a coffee & read a paper.
Room was lovely and hotel in fabulous position
The main restaurant was closed so ate in the note room as was told it was the same menu as The Spence, which wasn’t correct it was the snack menu
We had to book the Townhouse last minute as we had to travel to Edinburgh a day early because of the storm, and we'd already booked elsewhere for the rest of our stay. We arrived very late but the next day because of the red weather warning we couldn't leave the hotel. Staff arranged a late checkout and allowed us to stay on until the storm cleared in one of their working areas, which was sincerely appreciated. We've stayed at Gleneagles and the Townhouse a couple of times before... and if budget allows, this is Edinburgh's finest place to stay!
