    Pros +

    • Location
    • The location is very convenient, especially if you’re travelling by train — it’s very close to the train station, which made getting around super easy. A lift is provided, so it’s very backpacker-friendly and convenient when carrying luggage.I stayed in a room with a private toilet, and it was clean and comfortable.
    • Location close to the train station and the major attractions.

    Cons -

    • One downside was the heater in the room, which didn’t work very well. The room felt quite cold during winter, which was a bit uncomfortable. But this happened in my room. The common areas are comfortable and warm.
    • Wierd smell from the bathrooms
    • It would be nice to have a real kitchen, but if the kettle and microwave helps keep this hostel at it's affordable price, then it is worth it!

The location is fantastic! It's right beside the train station, and the Old Town neighborhood of Edinburgh, and is a ten minute walk to Calton hill and the National Gallery. The staff are kind and helpful and the have lots of information to help you plan your trip to Edinburgh and day trips around Scotland. They also have a free water bottle filling station, and free shampoo and liquid soap that you can refill to be eco friendly. The wifi worked quite well! From reading the reviews, I was a bit confused about whether or not there is a kitchen, and the answer is "sort of." Upstairs there is a combination of a luggage storage / lounge area with a counter, a small fridge, a microwave, a kettle and a sink. There were a few reusable cups and plates and bowls as well as disposable bamboo cutlery. There was free tea and coffee and sugar. So, if it helps keep the costs down, I am okay with using the make shift kitchen as I was able to be resourceful and creative and still keep to a budget by buying groceries I could cook in the microwave. I stayed in the 6 bed female dorm, and at first when I was looking at the photos of the room here on booking.com, the room looked kind of cramped and the beds on the bottom bunk looked like they were right on the floor, but don't be put off by the photo because the room feels a lot more spacious in real life than in the photo! Also the bottom bunk beds are not right on the floor even though it looks that way in the photo. I LOVED the privacy curtains!! This was my first time in a hostel with privacy curtains and I loved it! It was like sleeping in a cozy tent. The shower was wonderful too and had good shower power. There is some free luggage storage, but the lockers are smaller and you have to bring your own lock. After playing Tetris a bit I was able to fit my Osprey backpack in there. There are also lots of bigger lockers you have to pay for using a computer screen system.

It would be nice to have a real kitchen, but if the kettle and microwave helps keep this hostel at it's affordable price, then it is worth it!

    near to railway station

A building lift (or elevator) is not function.

If you’re using the train you literally could not get closer to the station. The staff were so friendly and informative on all of the weekly activities and deals associated with the hostel.

I had a medium sized bag for backpacking - most other hostels I’ve stayed in have had lockers in the dorm rooms big enough to accommodate it. Here the lockers in dorm were much smaller, could only fit a backpack or maybe a carryon roller suitcase. The hostel do have bigger lockers on a different floor where you can keep your “oversized” luggage which costs £6 per day. Not the biggest deal in the world but just a bit inconvenient to not be able to access your bag in your dorm room. The washrooms were also a little interesting but having one directly in the dorm was nice!

The staff was so friendly and helpful , location was great, plenty of storage and comfortable beds!

The location is near a few pubs so on the weekend there was alot of noise from people outside. The room was hot so we couldn’t completely close the windows but finally just closed them at 1am. Wouldn’t have been an issue if we didn’t need to be up early to catch the train and eventually the crowds went away

Bed in 6-Bed Female Dormitory Room - Shared Bathroom (Triple Bunks). Clean and comfortable. I did get some good sleep (I reserved the top bunk, so probably a factor). Fast chargers available beside my bed, which was excellent because the other hotels I've stayed in only had normal chargers. Lockers available for an extra fee, but it was very secure so I kept all my stuff there and I have been able to access it multiple times. Good cafe where I had a nice quick breakfast (extra fee) before riding my train at Edinburgh Waverley a few steps away. Location was great for my needs.

Nothing I could think of, it's a hostel so...

The location to the train station and other shops and restaurants is ideal.

24hr reception!!! Location at Waverly, easy access from airport! We arrived at 2am off our flight and SO appreciated getting some sleep! Was surprised how quiet it was so close to the station.

Great location, fabulous breakfast, good selection

Bathroom sinks need plugs , need modern fixtures for sink rather than separate taps for hot & cold water—should be one tap for both hot & cold water, would be nice to have an electric induction stove in common kitchen with fire extinguisher and live camera to front desk

The location was perfect. Also the staff was very kind.

    Rooms were a bit narrow.

Superlative location -- airport, train, and principal sites to visit all exceptionally easy to reach.Friendly, respectful atmosphere. The bunk beds are cleverly designed, with curtains all around at each level, and for each bunk there is a private light and electric plug. (Bring your adaptor! Or, I think I saw some for sale at the reception.)

Better wall plugs in the common space downstairs would be good.In the description on booking.com, it would be helpful to mention: bring your own lock for lockers in the room. (I should have thought of it, but didn't. There are locks for sale at the reception. )

Perfect location! If you are travelling by train, it's so bloody convenient! And the best part is that they have a locker with a very reasonable price for storing your luggage after check-out. They provide you with a card that grants access to the locker throughout the rental period. The beds have curtains! That was another bonus, and the bathroom was clean. I loved it!And the staff are so so friendly and welcoming. I will definitely come back here!

Of course, this has nothing to do with the facility; some hostel mates are just not considerate when they can be noisy at times. But yeah, you can't avoid that. Anyway, Edinburgh is so beautiful that you won't be indoors most of the time.

Great location right next to the train station and perfect airport bus access. Nice view from the room. Very helpful staff.

The beds were hard as a rock. My shower water just stopped surprisingly. The elevator to the top floor was the slowest on the planet. Unfortunately, there was someone in the room who went around waking people up who were too loud/snoring. She was a nightmare, but the front desk resolved the problem which was her.

    Location was great.

If you like being a sardine in a can, this is your jam. Three beds to a bunk, so low you can’t sit up in them without banging your head. Tiny dorm rooms with no space for your stuff, absolutely crammed with humans and their detritus. Up to 6£ to check luggage each time. “ Chill room” is anything but- it’s in the paid locker room, no windows. Some cushions and stools to sit on. Just couldn’t wait to get out.

The staff and rooms were amazing. Bed was alright as well.

The room was suffocating as there were only 2 windows which were just little open. With people filled in the room it was hard to breathe and staff provided just one or two fans for a room filled with 20 people that too tinny fans.

    4EmmaPosted on: 7-18-2025

    Clean enough

The air was really poor in the shared dorms, the air was smelly and stuffy and the room was way too hot over night. Would not recommend staying here. Individual rooms might be better.
