    • Good location near st marks square. Central to the main attractions.

    Cons -

    • There is no elevator so we had to climb 4 flights of stairs. no shower curtain so floors get wet and slippery after shower. bedspread and floor carpet did not feel clean. room felt old and musty. Room is overpriced
    • Room was small, double bed took up most the room. ok for single person, very small for couple. Require cash to pay city tax at checkout.
    • Very small rooms. Bathroom shower was small and had a shower curtain that made the shower smaller.

Nice and comfortable;; excellent room accommodations even though very small space.

Some of the staff in the breakfast area were a bit rude and pushy. They need a better system to determine who is a hotel guest. Upon reporting my experience to the manager, he wanted to argue with me, and all I wanted was a nice quiet breakfast.

Nothing - our overall experience did not meet expectations

-Staff was very rude, unfriendly and confrontational -Room was very small-even for Venice -Bed did not have a proper bottom fitted sheet -Maid did not clean our room -Booked for 2 people and hotel tried to charge us for an extra person even though onl

I’d like to thank everyone who works at your hotel. Including the lady that handles the breakfast. You all were so helpful and accommodating to my mother’s needs. Always with a smile. Always gracious. We enjoyed our stay. My sister and I are very grateful.

    I have no complaints

    The location, the breakfast

The heating in the bathroom is not high enough for the cold weather

Staff and extra toilets in building

    No elevator

The location of Hotel Ateneo is excellent, just a short walk from St. Mark’s Square, which made exploring Venice very convenient. The building itself has a certain charm, with its classic Venetian décor and old-world atmosphere. The staff were polite and helpful, and having breakfast included each morning was a nice way to start the day.

That said, some aspects of the stay fell short of expectations. The air conditioning struggled to keep the room cool in the summer heat, which made it difficult to rest comfortably. The bathroom clearly needed attention: the toilet seat didn’t fit properly, and the door would not close fully. After long days of walking around the city, the lobby also felt quite warm and less welcoming than it could have been — even something simple like offering cold water on arrival would make a big difference. Overall, while Hotel Ateneo’s location and character are strong points, the comfort and value felt lower compared to Hotel Davanzati in Florence, which offered a warmer welcome, more thoughtful details, and better upkeep at a lower price.

Beautiful room, 103. Fabric wallpaper, Murano glass chandeliers, antique furniture, VERY comfortable beds, excellent water pressure in shower, excellent breakfast (mmmmmm. Cappuccino). Quiet location away from all noise. Restful sleep. Loved our stay and highly recommend!!!

No elevator so you must carry your luggage (1st floor is actually 2nd floor by American standards).

Location is perfect! Its close to everything yet in a quiet area. The staff were all wonderful and kind.

Nothing except No elevators but that can’t be helped

    good breakfast, good location..

bathroom had too low ceiling and no curtain or a barrier in the bath

    7UrsaPosted on: 5-1-2025

    Very close to main attractions

The rooms had no sunlight facing the next building. No fresh air in the rooms. The door of the bathroom was not able to be closed and also the bathroom was very small.

Quirky old Venetian style hotel . Quiet location

Rooms were very small , bathroom so tiny and it was quite warm and paper thin walls .

    7NicholasPosted on: 4-1-2025

The property is charming, old style Venetian and very well placed. Staff were charming and breakfast good. The only thing that was difficult is the size of the room that was really so small it was hard to manoeuvre with two people. I imagine a larger room would make it the perfect hotel stay.

    8SaraPosted on: 3-26-2025

Excellent location just 5 mins walk from St Mark's sqaure and about 8 mins walk from the water bus stop from the airport. Ideal to visit all of Venice. Our room was very quiet. All the staff are excellent, very friendly, nothing was too much bother. A special mention for Sara in the breakfast room, always smiling and ready to provide you with anything you needed. Safe was very useful with enough room for a tablet. Would definitely return

The bathroom was a little dated but functional. It is quite a step into the bathtub if you have any moblity problems. Some larger cups/mugs would be appreciated for morning tea.
